This shows how to replace the gas piston in an AK47 style rifle that has the piston threaded in and riveted. Even though it shows me using a milling machine and a v-block to do it you can use a drill press and a vise to do the same thing.
Check out my website www.ak-builder.com to order heat treated gas pistons not the soft ones like everybody else sells.

These guys are great. Very helpful, even if all you have is a question. None of my domestic parts producers would help me, but some guys halfway across the world answered within the hour. Wish you shipped to yurop!

I suspect it's because he was using a "scrap" gas piston to demonstrate the procedure. There's only supposed to be one set of axis holes for the rivet.

We don't have all those different type of machines, and if you do you got to have a place to put it... and how many time you going to use it. (building a parts kit)

Is this something I should do myself if possible? I'm sure I can I was just curious if there's a way I can mess it up or make my gun unsafe? Anyways lemme know asap. Thanks!

My Norinco MAK 90 doesn't have a pin, do you suppose the piston is simply threaded on? I'd like to install an adjustable gas piston.

My gas piston seems to not have a pin, but it won't just thread out. I'm guessing the pin is hidden under the black coating? I hope they answer you. EDITED: I scraped off the paint and I still didn't see a pin. How ever when I used magnification I was just able to see the pin. There is a pin there! Very hard to see...

@@nasanction Mine has a pin too, it's nearly impossible to see but it's there. Instead of an adhustable piston I opted for a stiffer ALG recoil spring and a recoil buffer pad. Combined with a VG6 Epsilon muzzle brake the gun shoots considerably softer (and louder) now.

@@danlutjemeier4183 I will be trying to put an adjustable gas piston from KNS. if that fails I'll probably try the adjustable gas block. Mine is so over gassed that the bolt gets jammed all the way back, and requires smacking it with a mag to knock it loose. I have to degas it...

Are there supposed to be two holes in the piston? Wouldn't that harm it's integrity?

precision craftsmanship xD at the beginning of drilling the hole the drill was so wabbly and at the end you bend it also. But nice video =)

how you specified where to drill the rivet ??? I can't see the exact place of the rivet on my gas piston ... why ???
@kylemussman1713
@kylemussman1713 4 года назад
You have to look real hard for the two holes on your carrier where the existing pin is , if it’s painted then you will probably need to sand some paint off.

My Gas piston pin came out the other day at the range, so I took it to my gunsmith today and he put a new one in (Gas Piston Roller Pin), drilled, hammer, filed, the whole 9 yards, then today after I cleaned it I had dry cycled it a few times and the pin came right back out. What should I do?! HELP!

Did you fund a solution? I have the same problem
@noretreat151
@noretreat151 2 года назад
@@vmonroig21 don’t have a solution, but, the cause may be the HEAT factor/ expanding parts at a different rate than pin.

don’t use a “solid pin” try a HD split pin.... selection from mcMastets.

I followed tapcos instructions.i drilled and tapped the old pin out today than I made sure the threaded sleeve that the new tapco piston came with was seated all the way down and lock tight the new piston in place.no new pin,tapco has a lifetime warranty so we will see.
@nasanction
@nasanction Год назад
Locktight is not going to hold that gas piston in the bolt assembly! You need to use a rolled pin to hold it from backing out. Also, the gas piston is supposed to have a little play or wiggle when completed. ;)

why the hell did you even drill holes in the first place.....

Anybody use this method with KNS pistons or just stick with the roll pin?
@machineguneddie

your piston should be a little loose

Is it not obvious? He is changing out the gas pistol on an ak pattern weapon. The most common reason to do this is for 922r compliance. There is nothing that needs to be said.
