Visit www.scalewarmachines.com for more. Here's a road test of two AK Interactive Chipping solutions. From Scale War Machines - the home of model making videos, articles & archive films. Don't forget to get involved.
I don't do stuff like this (although I would love to, it looks awesome) but I still watch your videos because it's quite interesting to see the end result. 😀
You're going to be pretty disadvantaged without an airbrush. But you wet the area & it should degrade the chipping solution underneath your brushed on top-coat. BTW, have you tried hairspray? Use that instead of the chipping medium, brush paint on top & then wet for the same chipping result. At least you can spray hairspray direct from the can!
Hello love Your work but i can get The same result. To large peaces of paint come of. Is it anything Sith The drying time. ( to fresh paint) how long are you letting the paint lagers to dry in between
Maybe you are applying too thickly. Take test cards of painted plastic card and try to get the measure of it on your test pieces. It could be you are putting too much?
is there a reason to put the chipping medium under the paint you want to chip away ? I would have tought to put the medium over the paint I want to chip...
The water reacts with the chipping fluid so that the layer of the chipping fluid can be removed as shown in the video, therefore every layer on top of the chipping fluid will be removed as well. When you finished chipping you seal the miniature with varnish to prevent further reactions with the chipping fluid layer. Hope that helps : )
hey there. if one doesn't have an airbrush can these chipping solutions be applied by brush to the model? and if so how many passes? thank you if you answer.
Honestly never tried it by brush but it should work, try on a scrap test piece and see how you go. Another option is hairspray in an aerosol can, does pretty much the same thing and you don't need an airbrush. Google 'hairspray chipping' if unfamiliar with it.
Thank you for getting back to me so quick. Really have been enjoying your videos I'm fairly new to air brushing trying to get some tips and you have helped alot.
So let me get this right, you replaced the old method with your so called thankful new method that cost way more than hair spray but in essence does the EXACT same thing and achieves the EXACT same results as using a cheap can of hair spray? People really fall for this apparently?
Sorry, doesn't produce EXACTLY the same results as hairspray. You can see that in the shots. Will use both methods quite happily without losing any sleep over the cost difference.
I will have to get some and test it then. Just skeptical because so many of these things are nothing more than relabeled products that essentially cost more because we are paying for someones idea of cool marketing. honestly though I have been able to create the exact same results using hair spray, but always up for something more realistic or easier to work with idea.
