Something Misha may be more suited for as he has a bigger variety than I do. I typically just buy what's available and I know works regardless of if it matches country of origin on one of my rifles. Misha makes sure to get matching mags for his AKs and is pretty knowledgeable about the differences.

I’m not usually a fan of polymer AK magazines, but the Bulgarian slab side poly mags are pretty great. They have the metal floorplate, and metal-reinforced lugs and feed lips. They’re built like tanks compared to the PMags, and they’re only $15-$20 on average. And as a bonus, they’re pretty slick-looking to boot.

Have many of the same mags. Collecting AK mags is much more interesting than collecting AR mags. I remember buying 8 bakelites a few years ago for $30 each and thinking I was crazy. See them go for $90 plus each now. The circle 10’s are great but they are thick. Everyone should have 1 of each of they truly enjoy collecting these mags.
@clange50
@clange50 3 года назад
Agreed, like collecting ak mags. What's crazy is the bakelite 74 mags used to be like under 3 bucks because NO ONE wanted orange mags. You could buy 4 black ones with a pouch for like 25, 30 bucks. They're probably crazy expensive now. Edit, yeah, east german bakelites $50 or more. They were like literally dirt at one point. Wish I had bought a truck of them.

Also like steel surplus mags, and last but not least I have had good success with Bulgarian reinforced slab mags. Just came to echo the Bulgarian steel reinforced polymers being my favorite bang-for-the-buck mag out there. I like to think of them as the affordable bakelite or "bakelite at home" 😁 Also, I have ran several of the AC Unity full polymer (with weird zinc? locking lugs) German market 30rd mags for a few hundred rounds. They have ran great except for one weird double feed that I have never been able to replicate. Probably wouldn't use them for anything serious, but for $5 each they're outstanding range mags. That said, they apparently make a very good new 556 AK mag that a lot of folks swear by.

I’ve been into the AK game for twenty years on now. I acquired all my Bulgarian “waffle” mags back when three different vendors were importing them and they were going for the paltry sum of $8.99 each. Yes you read that correctly. Also they were imported in five different colors iirc. Anyway they were made tight fitting so they could fit into a large array of rifles from various nations and manufacturers. Always use sand paper and slowly and lightly sand away the excess material and NEVER mill out an imported rifles mag well just to “fit” a particular mag. As for Eastern bloc steel mags the project manger at Magpul stated on a forum that while they were R&Ding their AK mags they tested and destroyed every mag known and concluded that the Polish steel mags were the most robust and reliable out of all the other Eastern bloc nations. Russian steel mags will only go up in value so I leave the ones I have in a safe. The Russian “Bakelite” mags are not made from Bakelite at all and are in fact constructed out of AG-4 phenolic resin. Actual Bakelite material is constructed from polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride, say that one fast three times.
@wespeacock793

Chinese mags have been my favorites for 30 years not only for reliability for feel in hand. I as well prefer bakelite and polymer military mags for 74's to the steel Tantal and AIMS steel mags due to the lack of sharp ribs. To date I own no American AK mags but I have no shame running the Circle 10's as I feel they're the most value per dollar beyond true military surplus steel. Worth it to me, no refinish needed and no rib. Run whatever works that fits your budget, I'm simply not a fan of ribbed AKM mags. Never a failure with any of mine.

I am in LOVE with them and they'll be what replaces my bakelites. They are an exact clone of the Bulgarian circle 10's down to the steel floor plate, feed lips, lugs and the waffle pattern. They're VERY rugged and look badass and are only $25.99 each. I have a few of the original US Palm mags also and like them a lot too. I have a pile of steel surplus mags too that thankfully I bought back when they were stupid cheap. I think the most I paid for any of my steel mags was like $7.

When it comes to 545x39 bakelites and plum mags are awesome then Bulgarian right behind. I love the Pmags even the cheap ones. No they’re not surplus. I just mentioned the Korean mags bc they’re cheap and those are the ones I always use to shoot simply bc they’re cheap. I’ve never had feeding issues with them, although people have complained about having that issue. It’s not to say it won’t eventually happen bc the springs aren’t stiff in them, hence the feeding issues that occurs for some people. I use my Korean mags to shoot bc I’m not going to use my good mags. My favorite mags by far, are the Bulgarian steel and polymer mags. I have more Bulgarian steel and polymer mags than anything. My 2nd favorite mag is the zastava polymers. I love the zastava polymers bc they’re very thick polymer mags, has ribbed sidewalls, steel reinforced, except for the feed lips. If the feed lips were reinforced, then they would be a tie with the Bulgarian polymers bc the zastava polymers definitely are the best looking polymer mags of any polymer mag imo. They’re a little more expensive than Bulgarians, but well worth the money. I’m just not a fan of BHO mags though. With said, I really like my ac unity mags as well. But all my good mags I keep stored away to keep them new, so I run the cheap Koreans just to shoot and have fun

I have two Magpul polymer mags like the one you showed, which were supplied with a rifle I bought; I never use them and only keep them as spares. I have two new-build Croatian steel mags that were originally equipped with LSBHO followers, and four Serbian Zastava surplus that were also originally supplied with LSBHO followers (by the way, the Yugoslavian army was the first to use this type of mag). All work fine, but the LSBHO followers that came with them were made of soft, cheap steel which would wear out after a few hundred rounds from the bolt slamming into them. Once these LSBHO followers wear down the mag still functions normally otherwise, but it is no longer a LSBHO mag. To remedy this I retrofitted all of my steel mags with American-made “WeaponsTech” brand LSBHO followers that are plastic with a steel insert where the bolt makes contact. These followers are claimed by the manufacturer to be good for 20K rounds, and they have worked great for me. This aftermarket LSBHO follower can be retrofitted to any standard combloc steel mag, whether it started out with an OEM LSBHO follower or not. (Just a PSA.)

It’ll take any double stacked ak mag, but from my experience they sometimes have fitment issues. I’ve had to file a few mags to get them to fit

They make a tool just for repairing metal al mags that are badly dented. The mag slips over it then you press a lever and it spreads open inside the mag. Popping the crushed and dented mag back to shape. It's like $300 and is for those guys selling surplus mags.

Good video, but I really feel like you probably should’ve included a Russian waffle mag since they are aluminum and lighter than a great many other pmags with better durability. I know they are metal so they probably kinda get lumped in with the rest of your collection but I think they are a worthwhile mention.

Jeremiah Cherry i bought 5 of the same brand, thinking the same thing, and it did not. I also saw a youtube vid where he had problems locating mags, that would work without modification. Im not to worried about modding the mags, but id rather avoid that

Polish/Romanian (as said above) have the best shot of working with tight magwells/catches. They're usually thin enough to work in everything. If THOSE don't work, you may have to take some material off of your mag catch. Depends on the fitment issue you're having (i.e. if it's front to back or side to side).
@HardHeadMilitary
@HardHeadMilitary 4 года назад
Jay from Mishaco the fitment issue is in the front. I have swapped the other mags to a rifle that handled them. I will look into some of you fellas suggestions! Thank you

@@jaysblades Both of myy Lynx's took WBP poly mags just fine. Just realise that when brand-new, most poly mags are oversized, so fit very tight, but they wear in quickly. Don't be afraid to use some elbow grease when it comes to AK stuffs.

Current AK state of affairs is such a bummer. Waffles used to be so reasonable cost wise. They are thicker, which if they fit, tended to help with mag wobble. Edit, also, agreed, you cannot beat legit surplus, steel, etc.

No love for 5.45? 20 round tankers? 40 round RPK? Russian slabsides? Chinese? Defunct Tapco? I use Bulgarian poly for 40s since Romanian RPKs went up significantly in price, and they seem to work, as do the 30s, whether plain or with the hokey "bullet" design. If I could give any advice about metal mags other than what you said, it would be that gently used mags almost always work, and be wary of parkerized mags, because you probably don't want to have to keep your mags lubed like an AR BCG.

There are several types of mag with the cirlce11 marking. Some were even made by FB back in the late '90s for use in their final run of AKMSs. After 2000 though, the marking has bounced between makers, including PAC.
