I'm from Garland, Texas. I don't have a HEMA school near me that I'm able to go to, and I've been trying to teach myself Armizare out of books since I got out of the military. Your videos have been a great help in the pursuit of understanding what I'm reading in books and how to apply it.
I know a few guys in Texas that do kenjutsu and HEMA, they might be able to help you out or even train with you maybe. They are active on RU-vid, go check out Matthew Brown (two t's), and Bathrobe Battousai
Same here. I was in Sherman, Texas, three years ago, now back to China. Don’t really have anyone to teach me so I had to teach myself by reading books before I saw these videos.
Wow. You're preparing a fire hose for us to drink from in 2019. I'm thirsty for more. A request: let's talk about how to *teach* these skills as we go. How to teach my students in a consistent manner, and give them "homework" to help them improve, is a puzzle I struggle with daily.
Excellent breakdown, I highly approve. In the Modern firearms tactical world we typically say 1. Mindset 2. Tactics 3. Skills/Attributes 4. Gear 5. Luck. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I think what is most important is the mind games, after all we know of The Art of War by Sun Tzu, and while it seems much of this only applies on the large scale I think it is a scalable philosophy that applies in any conflict between men. That is not to say that training is not important, and that quick reactions lack merit, but to reach the highest levels of success as a fencer you need to beat the mind games.
Seriously regret not getting into HEMA when I had enough free time. Now with a young family this is nearly impossible. Still I enjoy your work immensely as a spectator and enthusiast. Polish HEMA community is something to behold! Best regards from Prague!
Not only it is a great video, not only it is extremely valuable for fencing....I think it also very valuable for ANY martial art practitioner. Thanks guys, you are great
The best channel on youtube ... period. i hope i can train HEMA some day.. and i hope my damaged knee will not be a mayor problem. Anyway...great Video and greetings from Germany :)
Excellent motivational piece, fencing is as much a challenge for the mind as it is for the body. Hope many people see this, it's a very good introduction of how hema fencing works
Very nice picture of a guidance model. What makes this even valid is that you can take this five steps and use it to become excellent at any given employance. Even as a salesperson, office person, soldier, warrior, academic or even parent you can become better at handling situations, when strenghening physical and mental abilities. Its something we usually only see in movies as this model is definitely applicable to various life situations!
the crazy thing is the things you mentioned arent hema specific. these powers you mention are universal martial arts principles and I am very happy you made this video. I unforunately do not speak the language of european weaponry but i can assure you what you said in this video is universal for all martial artists!
I'm a fencing instructor and demonstrator for a Midwestern group of re-en-actors while also being a collegiate fencing instructor and I have always recommended your channel for further research and information. I will be incorporating your lessons into what we study and why we study it. Looking forward to many more videos!
@@akademiaszermierzy1105 , feel free to watch any of the videos posted on my channel and leave feedback on any of the bouts seen. Not only will it help me as an instructor and fencer but it will also help any of my students who watch it. As festival season rolls back around, expect more videos.
ALL aspects covered... GLORIOUS!!! I´m so glad someone finally addressed the fundamental subject of good old fashioned bravery (A.K.A: Character), cunning, Timing and adjusting your fighting style to serve a specific purpose of your choosing. This was one MAJOR leap forward in the right direction. Thanks!
This is by far my fav A.S. video. So much respect for those guys who dedicate their free time to sword fighting, reading and studiyng from old manuals and training with so much passion to reach and give their best performance. Wonder if this other kind of fencing will ever get an Olympic dimension one day, just exactly like classical Scherma(fencing) alredy did since ages, with the possibility to chose different weapons, armors etc., using different techniques etc. It would be amazing, and as a videoGame player i would mind-blown to see an accurate VG with all the steps u show in the video : Motor Preparation - Technique - Perception - Tactics - Mental Attitude. Thnx for the video and keep up the Arms-mazing Work guys !!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💪🏻👌🏻🤙🏻
What role does Absolute Law play in this! If you are not aware of a law, does it cease to exist! Swords are designed to travel certain pathways! Not learning them only means you do not understand them.
@0:51 first time I've seen bad editing on this channel. Can't hear what the narrator is saying, because the yelling in the clip isn't timed, for his pause in talking, rather it yells right over him, so he can't hear what he's saying
In midievil and sword fighting times how did people prepare for fights? They did not have modern fitness equipment so what kinds of things did they do? Also, why did Europeans or some Russians make those super curved swords and how effective were they? They seem counter productive to me. The swords are curves way too much but what was the logic to create such a sword back then?
It's not a perfect analogue, but there's a French Knight who boasted about his workout regimen quite publicly, his name escapes me, but perhaps someone will know who I am talking about
Very nice. I tried to translate (make) the Czech subtitles but it seems it is not allowed by you. If you permit it, I can humbly help you to spread your fame a bit further... ;-)
Not unusual. It's some kind of "feather" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feder_(fencing)) which is used in fencing. The steel is not hard as a sword so it bends pretty easily. It shows that you've hit the other person without killing them :)
I think real combat these guys not all fight like they train. They believe enemy would be fair and fight with honor. I would mace my opponent or throw sand in eyes. I would send in the dogs first and try to hit with Bow and arrow before he notices. Sword fighters pry lose in real combat. Also what about all the Firearms that will just shoot them?
5 pillars you speaking for the holy trinity also you forgot Constitution that represents health and resilience, in a real fight that one person wants to kill the other you may have defender an attacker - also attacker an attacker, also the tools that you use to defend or attack will be different in weight and shape, not all swords weight the same an have the same shape in a real fight many factors play role factors that you ignore now cause you have the luxury to support your body health.
