Weapon control, AKA How to not destroy the furniture.

If you are able not to destroy furniture during that training - that mean you don't have to improve your weapon control anymore...

this is such an incredible resource for starting out sword control, the workouts in between is a little much for me, but I'll get there eventually, hoping to have joined a HEMA school by the end of the year EDIT: i'm starting my HEMA journey in a little more than three weeks, doing this three or four times a week on my own still, and i'm excited to get started

When you move the sword from one side to the other the tip of the blade seems like it's not moving at all! Such a perfect control of the blade, beautiful video!
@VanguardArmament
@VanguardArmament 3 года назад
A well balanced longsword is designed to keep the tip staying still. It's really cool, just google "Longsword pivot point"

That is an awesome collection of warmup excercises well executed. Thanks for the intel. =) For better understanding i would recommend to show the cuts from a front angle as well, so one can get a clear idea of how you throw cuts.

Are you training for competition or everyday survival?
@mattmiraglia1835
@mattmiraglia1835 3 года назад
Probably HEMA tournaments. Even if you carry a sword for self defense in modern times, what are the odds you'd have to defend yourself from a similarly armed and trained assailant? Historically the reason to master these high level techniques would be duels and tournaments. The longsword was carried for self defense and for backup in battle, but in those situations the strategy is a little different.

@@mattmiraglia1835 HEMA is only for show?
@mattmiraglia1835
@mattmiraglia1835 3 года назад
@@johnbrown2163 more like competition. Bows aren't really part of historical fencing. Sword fighting since the late middle ages always had more of a dueling and tournament application than pure combat. Dont get me wrong, swords were definitely meant for self defense and battle, but they were secondary to spears, lances, and projectiles, on the battlefield (ironically, they became more primary as guns became prominent). For self defense, it was unlikely you'd apply high level techniques because your assailants wouldn't necessarily be similarly armed and trained as longswords were nowhere near tbe most common weapons in any era. Bows had a specific context and there arent any sources we know of about using bows in individual combat. I recommend following Schola Gladitoria and Metatron on RU-vid if you're interested. Skallagrim and Shadiversity are also really good but Shad.
@johnbrown2163
@johnbrown2163 3 года назад
@@mattmiraglia1835 Not a fan of Skallagrim, I will be honest I don't like HEMA, I watch these videos for training in WW3. When ammo runs out or you see that you cannot shoot in the night. You're very wise to Battle. I wonder how you and I would do to the Death?
@mattmiraglia1835
@mattmiraglia1835 3 года назад
@@johnbrown2163I think you would lose if it was longswords. Bows though? I dont know much about them.
