I love the design! Although, I’m still absolutely in love with my original APC40 (MK1), one of the first midi controllers I ever bought. I find the sturdy, physical faders and solid knobs to be just what I need when doing live sound design stuff. Definitely interested in an update though, and this does look very promising 😊
I think Akai is missing a huge opportunity by not including their Ableton controllers with their MPC/Force ecosystem. Most of what those controllers can do in Ableton, they could also do on those units. This would benefit both the controllers and the grooveboxes.
I thought the same thing. This would never replace my push 2 but it would have been cool to plug into my mpc one and have a 64 pad workflow with some more hands on control.
Going after the Launchpad audience. Especially with that price, it's basically the Pro Mk3 with faders. Worth taking a look at as an alternative. I'd try it.
absolutely no way this replaces the apc40mk2. I get that this is primarily an ableton controller, but the mk1 and mk2 are HUGE with video and lighting software operators. and I've loved using the touchstrips on my maschine jam for similar things, but there's no way that the video/lighting customer base will ever adopt that control method.
Ok, so at first I was like where the knobs, what's this and how does it make sense to release something like this, but by the end of the presentation and after hearing the price...this thing is super cool at a reasonable price too. Well played AKAI.
These new model it’s not a total replacement of the older version. I need a controller for ableton but also for video and lights equipment and the APC 40 Mk2 it’s better for a multitasking environment. The knobs and physical faders are a MUST for my live work (video and lights) … I need tactile control and I can’t move my eyes constantly to find the faders positions in a touch strip.
I have mixed opinions about this one, while the standalone improve is really cool i think the faders could be a little tricky in live performances. I have a APC40 mk2 + Novation circuit and the apc64 is basically this.
Nice.... I love to see the industry bringing out stuff after the last few years' sort of standby mode, wish Novation would open up too about their plans with the SLmk3... This guy though from AKAI :D all that head scratching and other unprofessional gestures, he could have been vaping as well throughout the presentation lol
Bitwig works perfect NOT just Abelton. Fully supported on Bitwig 5.2 plug in and go zero setup . works perfect great piece of kit. Infact the device control jumping between a chain works better in Bitwig cause abletons is just messy in comparison though thats not the hardwares fault
For “Push style” integration with Live using abletons own push controller makes a lot more sense….. then use an Apc 40/20 specifically for the things that the official push controller doesn’t have such as faders and encoders and crossfader …. I don’t get why Akai did this !
Like it a lot. I generally perform live with a laptop (Ableton Live 11), controller keyboard (I'm a keyboard player) and APC40 MK2. Great to have more functions with this 64, but is it more complicated menu-diving than the AP40 MK2?
Close to perfection if this badboy and the Launchpad Pro MK3 would get combined into one unit. I do miss the Launchpad functionality here where you have clips and scenes in standalone mode, this one seems to be limited to just the 8 sequences playing. That, with automation recording in stand-alone mode would be a wrap. Man i would dish out 400 bucks any day to see these two combined into one super unit. Since Novation and Akai now both fall under the InMusic brand, let's make it happen guys, chop chop now!
Bad design no deccent display no encoders no faders. Its sadly a pass from me il buy tne mk2 atleast i can assign things myself clearly aiming this at god people who do t use these things professionaly. Strongly disagree this is not a next step up they dont even know there own market. The mk1 and 2 where widelyused by workiing muscians at festivals. You wont see one of these unless its launching clips.
This looks fantastic. I love the Akai ableton controllers and have had a few but they all have eventually developed a problem where they send unwanted, unprompted midi control data to Ableton which really messes things up and seems impossible to fix properly. Anyone know if these have similar issues?
