Got one yesterday. So much fun. Being able to control vsts, hardware synths and send return rack gear from the one device is really liberating

The ribbons are neat and are great for some things, but I think i'd rather have 8 knobs and a few sliders. The knobs would take up a lot less space too

Interesting that it’s touch strips. But you can do the same this with just about any synth or controller. Nothing innovative in that regard. Serum is the reason why he was able to do that with its midi learn function. But this is a must have piece for me and my workflow.

Looks promising improvement to apc40mk2: PROS - new useful stuff - more pads like novation launchpad pro, immediate quantize button, immediate choice if rec arm, mute, solo, clip stop. Basically same as akai force control mode. Usb c (akai force has weird usb b connector which has distance limitations), volume control now pad based. CONS - the notch in design top and bottom is dreadful for stacking 4 units in 256 grid configuration, no mention that options.txt still allows for “Don’t combine APCs” variable. Biggest con - they have dropped pedal support for rec stop the active looping clip. That feature alone is worth worth paying £300 for the old apc40mk2. Hands free stopping of the clip you are recording is realy important for guitarists, keyboard players. Why has it been dropped?! Push2 cant even do that neither can push3. I have recently bought nektar pacer pedals and Mareq max4live plugin that turns a pedal board into exactly what this is doing. But the nail in coffin for those who have apc40mk2s is that pedal feature script. Its a proprietary api script that most who want hands free stop active loop.

@@turdington23 Yeah, it's a no brainer really. Don't get me wrong, Push has some features that are amazing but for what I do on Ableton they are a luxury I don't need. 2nd hand Push 2 are going for more than the APC64.

This looks fantastic. I love the Akai ableton controllers and have had a few but they all have eventually developed a problem where they send unwanted, unprompted midi control data to Ableton which really messes things up and seems impossible to fix properly. Anyone know if these have similar issues?

Placement of the touch strips and the display is all over the place. I mean, both the APC Mini and the Maschine Jam have shown it's possible to have faders under even a 64 pad grid (where they belong), and of course the display, as tiny as it is, should be in one of the top corners and not on the bottom where your right hand wrist will cover it most of the time.

I commented before viewing the second half of the video. I had asked if it worked outside the DAW environment with live performance equipment. Watching that portion of the video, I can imagine that, if I didn’t have a DTX Multi 12, I would try getting this model. My “game” since the mid 2000s has been triggering drum tones by hand in lieu of with a sequencer, looper or arpeggiator.

Crossfader was my favorite part of the last few. If you use a 64 grid controller do yourself a favor and just grab a push.

Well damn... still thinking about Push 3 but its a $670 difference and is making me think if the bigger screen, MPE and built in soundcard is worth it that much of a difference because in the end it's just a midi controller. This thing is also a stand alone sequencer so thats a big plus... Loopop mentioned a few caveats that could be fixed in updates but nothing game breaking at all... damn. I'll be watching more videos before deciding what to get.

Now please, bring out a (midi) mixer with the same form factor, 8 channels, 8 sliders, 6 knobs per channel. (Panning, 2 sends, 3 assignable ones per channel inst/fx) Korg zero 8 was a great idea, but had a lot of bugs and a lot of hum because of the audio implementation it had too, but now with midi 2.0 the midi resolution is much finer, so we won’t have a “ladder” effect using filters and so on. A few, like 4 knobs for the master to insert fx would be great too. And a pre listen via headphone. Basically a performance midi mixer like a pioneer v10, with midi only (maybe a built in soundcard) on 8 channels.) My novation launch control xl has served me well but is getting old, and the quality should be better, make it feel sturdy like the apc 64. The touch sliders are great, but what made the apc 40 (mk2) great were the physical/ non touch faders per channel for live performance. Those 2 devices together (apc64 and let’s call it amm64) would be everything one needs for producing and performing. Hell even sell them together in a package, and I bet you would have a winner. I detest my live push 2 controller, I got one of the sticky units (hope the polyurethane/ plastic on the apc64 is not the same kind). Lots of people that bought a push 2 older than 3 years have this problem, and for a 600 euro device with the most basic live version, this is just wrong, ableton support first said I was the only one with this problem, and the reason according to them was that I live in a hot environment… whilst I live in Belgium where it’s rainy and cold 6 months in a year lol. Then they gave me a link for a cleaning product that works, but after 5 times using it the aluminum starts to shine through. That’s why I refuse to get a push 3, and will get this apc64 (for a fraction of the price, so thank you akai!)

What’s it like controlling other synths etc, as in being the central controller for hardware & software? eg a bass station two, ableton There’s little price difference between this apple, and the orange tree that is an arturia keylab mkii 61 - little price difference in respect to what you get in return £4£

with current software its a mess returned unable to register akai shipping product to us from different markets . the serial number was recognized as M-audio audio interface want me to go on with other things ? ribbons cool idea but ableton script filled with bugs .

It’s the room audio you’re hearing. They have to balance the spill from the room which the mic’s are capturing. We had the speakers so loud vibin :-)

You guys killed the mkii to sell this. This one does not work well for VJs. MKii is still the best controller for Vjing. Makes no sense to kill their best product just to force people to buy this one.
