Akai Force Tutorial: Crossfader A/B Automation Workaround

This tutorial was inspired by a conversation on the 'Akai Force' Facebook group. The default or A/B crossfader setup allowed you to assign tracks to either side of the crossfader, and blend between them. This works fine live, but the crossfader movements aren't recorded as automation in the arranger, which is bad if you are capturing a performance. This video shows you a method to achieve exactly the same thing, but in such a way that the automation is captured and your recorded performance will play back exactly as you intended.

Now this is a golden nugget of a tip. Thanks FYI you can press Shift+Rec to Rec to the Arranger.

Maxipok Music Hi , I have long wanted to understand how to record a crossfader into an arranger. You helped me. Thank you very much.

Thanks for that. I can see me using that in intros, given I want to use Force in conjunction with solo guitar/vocals. Straight up I could hear that leading into 'Locomotive Breath'. Sort of a 21st century version.

Yep that’s a great method thanks for sharing - have you been using the crossfader a lot for it to start wearing out?

Hi! Maxi thanks for your tutorials! I managed to get up and running with the force in a few days thanks to your work! :D One question, though, wouldn't it be better to set middle point to 0db? just genuinely asking, no idea what a "real" mixer does in this situation :)

Hey, I’m glad they’ve been helpful! I would say ‘just do what sounds best to you’ as an answer to that! Also, if you tap the upwards arrow in the bottom right corner of the crossfader macro screen, there are some options to change the response curve of the control change (linear, exponential etc), I often try each of those to find which works best for a particular project 🙂

Is there a way to use the crossfader like the octatrack one with macros. I read in the manual you can switch between 16 crossfader scenes by pressing and holding Assign A and then pressing Assign B to page through. Anyone know if this can this be done while playing? Could be a cool way to perform.
