Another great little guide! Thanks so much! I've used my Key61 twice now in gigs and definitely wish I'd had the idea of loading up four/five tracks this way for sound-switching and layering in the moment! I can cope with the load-up time (which isn't too bad really) but this would have made things even easier. By the way, for anyone reading this who is wondering about use on stage, the Key 61 is such a great live instrument - as well as being truly an inspiring base from which to experiment, create, record etc etc. Very much a player's instrument too - very expressive...
I just bought the AKAI Key 61 yesterday. I plan to use on Stage. The Keygroup way is definitely the way to go, being the secondary keyboardist, I need to jump around on different sounds including samples. The Keygroup System is a Keeper. Thanks 😊
The fact that you are a proper musician and also you play live makes your series of videos the most useful on RU-vid for me . Ive been going crazy with all these “beat making” & “MPC Producers “ videos that basically teach you nothing whilst having to listen there terrible “Music sequences “ that aren’t even their own because they’ve stolen samples from real musicians. That said - one question. After you’ve done all the layering and splits for a certain song , how and where do you save it and then move onto another set up for a different song . Many thanks .
Thanks! If you're using key ranges for your splits and layers, you can only have one per project, so you'd need to save the project and setup a different one on a different project. Obviously this isn't ideal for live performing unless you have time to load projects in between songs. If you did the splits/layers as one sound preset inside Fabric XL, you could save it as a user preset and then have up to 8 different user presets assigned to plugin programs and tracks allowing you to mute/unmute those tracks. Better for live performance, but not great if you want sounds outside the samples in Fabric XL or more than two layers/splits. Hopefully that helps a little!
@@DSoundmangreat tutorial! Do you have a video explaining how to create your own presets in order to achieve the second option you mentioned in your previous post, so you don't have to load a new project for a different song?
What about the 4 pad banks? Can u have one pad bank with drum samples, one with track mutes and one with loop samples and switch between them? That would be really flexible
Great tutorial! One thing I can't figure out, how can I assign an Arp to a single track. For example, I want to use the Arp in a live setting for a plucky pattern but layer strings underneath without have the Arp on the strings?
thanks man....i got mine about 3 weeks ago and still learning new stuff every day.....im our av guy at church but also am musician and wanna help our main guy with aux keys....is there any way to always make the drums tracks ONLY on pads?
I layer. 3 instr then use diff velocities for 2 and a short delay to play the 3rd one - can also blend- often have 3or4 other splits with layers - i like to just compose and play full instr set in one take- not a polished result but cuts boredom
Yes your videos generally from the MPC are very teaching. I learn more from your videos than the Manual from Akai wich is in my eyes terrible written and illustrated. Your videos just bring it on the point to know things how to do. More of MPC videos pls, that were cool. I have a Key 61 and basically I wanted it only as second sound source beside my Akai Force cause of the 8 Plugin limitation, then I had 16. What I struggle actually with it is, that the Key 61 obviously not can receive more than one Midi Channel same time and send it to different tracks then. If I send MIDI from 2 different tracks from Akai Force Channel 1 and Channel 2 to my Key 61 on the Main page only the Track is playing wich is there set. Like you would send Midi from a DAW on several different Midi channels to play several tracks on the MPC but from external. If I activate more than 1 then logical all activated play. I dont found yet Midi Settings to set a track on a different Input channel. The setting on the track is the OUTPUT Channel. if I take 5 different Midi Tracks on MPC and send 5 different midi channels of 5 different external synths all work fine. MPC send that all seperate like it should be. But in receive the MPC has its global channel and on that seems it to receive the data. Unlike in comparison to the Force wich has this Midi Input section on the track page wich you can set from where or wich input port and on wich channel data comes to the specific track and go to wich output port on wich channel it does send it all at same time. Like a programmable Midi router. Force can that. MPC obviously not cause that Input stage is not available yet as I see, or at least not found yet. The Manual just say nothing about that, not even closer Midisettings are mentioned ( thats why i say Manual is terrible ) I am thinking now to change it and take the MPC as Main cause its so powerful and just take the Force as a Sound module with 8 more Plugin tracks played by the MPC on 8 different Midichannels. I dont have yet try out if that work from Force perspective, but basically from Midi it should, cause the Force has that midi routing Input stage wich the MPC not has... or not found. if someone knows how to do that ( to set the Midi Input stage ) on the MPC then let me know pls.
Your mastery of the instruments and great ability to impart your knowledge is greatly appreciated. You are also inspirational and motivational to guide us toward greater success.
This is very helpful- thank you! I have a question… it’s possible to assign the drum only on deum pads and play ((for example) a piano in the same time with a full range? I tried and I cannot find this solution. My idea is to put the different samples on pad drum while I playing the song? Thank you!!
Is there a way to use pad perform with the keysplit live? Edit: I figured it out I created track 1 as just a midi track and sent midi to 2, on 2 I sent to 3, 3 I sent 4, and so on and so forth. This way you can use pad performance and it will trigger all the tracks with the appropriate key split. Do you know of a way to somehow get an arp after the midi composition? Similar to loading the arp inas an effect, like you would on Ableton etc. I’ve tied routing midi out of the built in arp in the latest plugin (forget what it’s called) but it didn’t work.
Thanks for this video, but how is it possible to save the layers and splits we create as a multi in order to save and load these multis in new projects ? Or do we have to save this as a project and reload this everytime we want to use it ? Is there any way to save it as a multi ? Vs a project ? Thanks 🙏
So far I've discovered the best way to do this is go to the Main Mode screen, select the track you want to shift, and then set Transpose for that track +/- 12 or 24 (i.e., you can go 1 or 2 octaves up or down).
Is it possible to transpose one key range to a different octave without affecting the others layers or tracks? Meaning, I have a really great layout I want to use for a live performance but, I can't figure out how to play them all together at the same time. The left hand layers need to transpose an octave down but the right hand needs to stay where it is. Would be nice to be able to do an octave shift on a single layer to get the sound where you want it. Thanks, I hope you have an answer for this because I can't find anything out there that covers this subject well... I hope I'm clear on my explanation...?
How do make it so that you can turn the sustain pedal off on one of the tracks? Per say I have Piano and strings on the right hand and on the left a bass sound but I do not want the sustain pedal function on the bass. Only on the pad and piano. I can’t find a way to turn it off, i tried to in the midi settings for the instrument I couldn’t find a way. Is there is no way to filter that. Is there a way?
When using an external control the mpc key receives midi cc note off globally and ignores the channel and input. This causes notes to cancel each other out when playing overlapping notes on both keybeds. This makes multi timbral live use very limiting.
I raised this issue several times to them, too. I cannot understand why it is not adressed, sounds like an easy fix. I tried to use MPC one as a rack module with dedicated Midi channel together with other devices. Not possible as Mpc works in Omni mode and reacts to all Midi channels and messages...
@@TubeYouTC this issue was finally fixed with one of the recent updates, at least it is for the MPC Key61. I'm assuming it should be the same across the entire MPC line.
Fantastic tutorial......... i cud not get what u were saying at 11:28...'.learn mit?....learn that...'... cud not folow what u were demonstrating...... shucks....
You would save the 'Project', which will contain everything you've seen here. So it's not a patch as such, but actually saving the Project is nice way of having your entire setup saved for future use.
Wow 😳 this y 61 is something big it has a good quality of sound the piano is crispy even the EP I really like and I can see it's also very good for live performance I love it I gonna get my one for church it's very good .thank my brother for this helpful video please can u make another video I want to know if it has its own styles like if u want play on a one man band u will have to put a style to accompany you so please let us know and make another video
hi. if i layer multiple instruments, can i change velocity value of each instrument? so when i strike harder will trigger brass /trumpetss. .. and when played softer, just piano/pads.. thanks so much. your videos helped me a lot!
Hi I appreciate your videos very much but I’m having a problem. when I try to later or record more then 4 sounds the 5th sound changes other sounds I’ve already layered or recorded, what am I doing wrong.
Hey, there's a little plus sign above the plugin program section that you'll have to hit to create a new plugin program. Each plugin track is tied to a plugin program and so if you get to track 5 and don't create plugin program 5, changing the sound for plugin program 4 will change track 4's sound too. I have a couple videos that walk through the recording process and I show how to do it! :-)
