I guess Im asking randomly but does someone know of a way to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the account password. I love any tricks you can offer me.
My dad surprised me with the novation launchkey mini mk3 yesterday when he came back from Australia!! I'm loving it so much and it's very practical and fun to use
Great vid as always, my man. Launchkey Mini MK3 all day long. Novation just understands what users want, in a way Akai doesn't. On nearly all official Akai videos, they disable comments. That speaks volumes to me. As a previous owner of a handful of Akai gear (MPC2000, MPC1000, MPC500, various MPDs, the MPK Mini MK1 and 2, APC Key, APC40, etc)... I've run into quality control issues/hardware defects... the whole nine, across the board. I owned three MPD218s in a period of 3 years. Two had pad issues (oversensitive, double-triggering, etc)... one was fine... should have hung onto the one that was but I was paranoid that it would develop defects so I sold it. I got so tired of the quality crap. The only 4x4 pads I trust these days are all the Maschines (MK2, MK3, Mikro, Studio). I think the one thing Akai got right design-wise is the APC40 MKII (which is really dope with dedicated track controls with Ableton) or the MPC Live. But, back to these two boards--- I think functionality-wise, the Launchkey Mini is killer. The arpeggiator with Deviate and Mutate (that NEEDS to be on the SL MKIII in a firmware update)... 16 velocity-sensitive pads... custom mode for the knobs and custom mode for the pads.... pretty great stuff. Thx again man!
Awsome comparison! I use the Akai MPK Mini MKII and the Arturia Minilab MKII with Logic. I prefer the Arturia b/c of it's direct integration with Analog Lab, but the Akai is great too. I just create music as a hobby for my own creative and listening pleasure so I don't delve into the deep functionality of either controller. I tend to forget the deep stuff between sessions. lol . Merry Christmas!!!!!
Re: Session view and other Ableton Live features that other DAWs don't have, Bitwig has most these functions as well, and thankfully, there is a script for Bigwig that allows the Launchkey Mini (and other Novation controllers like the Launchpads or Launchcontrol) to work with Bigwig. In Bitwig, the Novation controllers work almost exactly the same as they do in Ableton Live, and in a few cases, the Bitwig script even adds extra features. This is very much because of the efforts of Jürgen Moßgraber who wrote the script, but also because Bitwig was created with tight controller integration from the ground up. BTW, Jürgen's script also adds support for other controllers like the Push 1/2 and more. I love the Novation products, but I use Bitwig. If it wasn't for Jürgen's script, I would not be buying Novation products to control my DAW. Just FYI because very few of the reviews for Novation Lauch... products mention this support in Bitwig. Yes, it is a user provided/supported script, but it has been around a long time, is continually updated, and is provided as open source as well.
Ableton Live vs. Bitwig Studio depends on your needs. Both are great, though I haven't used Ableton very much. I bought Bitwig Studio because I liked the features (for me) and the price vs. what I cared about compared to Ableton. They both fit a particular kind of music creation where people using simple DAWs don't care, but Ableton and Bitwig offer so much more than a simple DAW. I make this distinction not to attack simpler DAWs, but to say Ableton and Bitwig fit a different purpose compared to those DAWs. Bitwig, in particular, is a sound designers dream. You can buy Bitwig and avoiding having to buy any other VSTs Synths or FX for a while because it has more than enough to do what you need, only buying a one or two special synths and special FX modules later as you grow. It follows a similar work flow to Ableton, but adds easy compartmentalization and modularization for _everything_, from it's own included synths and FX to any VST as well as Grid modules. Go see some videos on Bitwig's ability to add modulators to every control in the DAW, VST, etc. Then there is the Grid which is a modular synth and/or fx engine by itself. Ableton doesn't have something like the Grid. Max for Live can do what the Grid does, but comparing them wouldn't be fair because Max is a programming environment with modular features (a little more intimidating but way more capable to someone that wants to write code or use other people's created modules) whereas the Grid is an easier to understand modular synth that for many can do more than enough. If you need Max, get Ableton (though the price for Ableton with Max is about 2x the cost of Bitwig Studio - again Ableton with Max is a different animal). Ableton without Max for Live is about the same cost as Bitwig Studio, but now no longer has a "grid" like modular synth engine. So at that price point, I think Bitwig has more features. But again, evaluate both to see why you care. If you want to do anything with MPE, Ableton is out. Bitwig has excellent native support for MPE or adding expressive controllers. Ableton sorely lacks this. To do MPE in Ableton requires a massive cludge (adding 16 channels for each synth you want to make MPE compatible). In addition to supporting MPE for MPE based synths with multiple features that makes it work effortlessly, Bitwig can add MPE support to any built in synth or most VSTs using the modulator system. Just add the Expressions Modulator, and you can add per note modulation to any polyphonic synth in Bitwig. It is sad that Ableton hasn't fixed this issue. I assume they will eventually (Live 11??), but it seems inexcusable to not have it now. Finally, regarding the clip launcher - Bitwig has the same thing as the Ableton Clip launcher (where the clips stack up vertically on the mixer panel), but it also has the horizontal clip launcher that can work side by side with the normal time line editor. The more I use it, the more I prefer this horizontal clip launcher because it does the same thing as the vertical launcher, but I can drag clips (midi or audio) back and forth from the launcher to the time line and build a song more efficiently - a better work flow. I start by creating music as clips, expand those clips, then start dragging clips onto the time line to make a full song. Ableton can do a similar thing I assume, but since you can open up the launcher and time line side by side, it has a better flow. I can even create the song by "programming" the clip launcher to repeat, skip, randomly skip, etc. the clips, kind of like making a song in Beatmaker 3 for iOS, or an Akai MPC like work flow. Then I can record that programmed clip session onto the time line in a single operation. Again, Ableton probably has that (yes or no?), but it is the feature of having hoizontal clips match up with a horizontal time line that makes the difference. Again, I wouldn't say either Bitwig or Ableton is better period. I would just say, try both. There is no question Bitwig is better for my needs, and MPE compatibility was critical in that, but even without MPE support, I would still have bought Bitwig because I think it is a better sound designer's system, and had a better price for what I cared about. If I want to start coding music devices, there are many other options to do this that don't require Max for Live or Ableton.
Take consideration that with novation with bundle, you get around worth of 500 pucks all the cool stuff from the novation and partners. Addictive drums, kv331 synthmaster, 3gb loops, bassstation, vstation, oZone trash 2 etc etc...
Akai mpk mini was the first midi keyboard I ever bought and it’s done right by me ever since. But man oh man do you make a compelling argument for getting that novation launchkey mini. I’ve been wanting to try one out and seeing how it’s better suited for ableton really makes me want to pull the trigger. It’ll probably be a bday gift to myself 03/2020. 🙌
I got the mpk mini last Christmas mostly because of the pads on it. The m2 of the launchkey I did not like because the pads were not very sensitive at least from my experience with my launchkey 49. Now the m3 does appeal a lot more. Great comparison, lots of good points you brought out!
So I bought two mics and a mixer setup so I could do a podcast and scheduling guests has been rather tedious, so I decided to learn how make music lol... anyway I've been working in waveform for about 3 weeks and I felt it was time to get a midi controller. I thought I bought the Akai midi play and started watching one of your videos from a while ago and realized that you weren't giving it that great of a review. It turns out I actually ordered the MK2, not the play, so now I'm on this video. And now I'm wishing I had been learning on Ableton instead of waveform. This is all so confusing haha but I'm having fun
I will buy the Launchkey thanks to this video, the audio interface I got actually had Ableton for free included so this pretty much sealed the deal for me with this MIDI controller
the Launchkey has integration with FL20, you can select it in the midi controller section unlike the akai. now whats the launchkey mini's difference with the launchkey 25? there's almost a 90$ gap
FL Studio recently added midi scripting which means you could probably code all of the Launchkey functions for Ableton Live into Fl Studio. Do you think the Launchkey is worth buying for that reason?
The Launchkey has never been trailing the Akai buddy. The Akai has been trying to catch up from the start. i have the original LK mini and it’s never had an issue. the pads are amazing
As always, great video! I have the Launchkey Mini MK3. As a new user, I’m very much enjoying it. I have yet to learn all of its functionality, but I’m happy I finally bought a midi keyboard as I’ve been wanting one for a long time. I currently use Cubasis and an iPad 5. I previously used BeatMaker 2. Hope to someday get Ableton. For now, this setup is working great :) One thing I’m trying to figure out is how to disable or dim the lights on the drum pads! Sometimes they are just SO bright. Not sure if it can be adjusted on the keyboard itself or through software on the iPad. Any tips would be nice:)
Quick thing regarding the tap tempo on the MPK mini, it could be useful if you are using the MPK as a software synth controller in an otherwise analogue/dawless setup. This allows software synths to be less tied to daw focused performances. I know this is a somewhat rare use case, but i just thought I'd throw it out there since you seemed confused by the inclusion of a tap tempo button.
yes man! I was going for Akai but really wanted to be sure about my choice! And I finally came upon your video which just totally changed my view by telling me everything I wanted to know and also which I didn't have any idea about. Now I'll be going for Launchkey. So Thank You very much!
Hey Taetro, thx for the comparison. I have the mpk mini mk2 also. And i actually have the same taughts as you. I like the mpk mini, but it is not as deeply out of the package mapped as the novation with ableton live. Since i m also an NI maschine and an NI komplete kontrol User the third option to look at for me would be the NI komplete kontrol M32. M32 and maschine mk3 is also an interesting combinaties to look at for portability , Being able to control maschine, ableton and komplete kontrol (in or outside a DAW). By the way the joystick behaviour for modulation actually make sense: pushing from the middle position all the way up is a fulltime mod wheel so MIDI output in the neutral position is 0 all the way up is 127 MIDI value. Pulling the joystick all the way down is also MIDI value 127 on the same cc Channel (modulation) ! In the control editor from the MPK (yep here we go editor diving, the thing we not so enjoy) you can changement this behaviour of the joystick if you want. Actually it is even possible to change both the CC values for both up and down behaviour. So you can map another CC for down, giving you an extra control. Cheers, like your reviews ! Now the one on the M32 and maschine mk3 together with ableton 10 pls 😁
So I'm just starting and using GarageBand. Because of this video I'm leaning more towards the Launchkey. In the sense of using GarageBand is it still preferred? Also does the Launchkey work with a Macbook updated to Catalina a 10.15.5?
Musical Boy Sshauryaa it looks cuter, feels higher quality , and has more features. why would anyone get the akai mpk lmao.... and ableton is the best DAW out there everyone should be using it
Which one of them is best for beginners? Cuz I understand that the launchkey is the better option but as someone who has no experience at all should I buy it? And if I’ll buy it where should I learn using it? Cuz I know about melodics but idk if it’s the best way to learn
Hi Taetro, nice video! Great stuff! I'm using Ableton and this really motivated me to get the Novation, since it also suits best for my workflow. Could you please help me explain what are the big difference between Novation Launchkey Mini mk3 and Novation Launchkey 25 MK2? I'm having trouble choosing between these two. Thank you! Keep up the good work!
Every midi keyboard is compatible with all Daws whether you are using logic or bitwig studio You just have to spend some time to map your midi keyboard with a daw
Thanks for the video ! So if I use FL Studio and get the Launchkey, I will be only able to use the custom mode for the pads, and the keys ? Is there still an advantage to the Akai then ?
Hey Teatro. I own the Akai mpk mini, and This is my 1st time watching a video on the launch key series. I've been watching your videos for quite some time now, and I can't help but notice that a majority of the videos that you make, are using the MPK Mini. Why is that exactly?
I really want the launchkey but ableton is too stupid expensive. Will i be loosing to many important features if i got the launchkey with a different daw?? Im choosing pro tools. Is there a midi meant for that like the launchkey is for ableton?
Question though. As far as the Akai- How do you change the polarity of the sustain pedal. It doesn’t seem to work and I haven’t been able to find any answers.
Try holding the sustain pedal down while you power up the controller. I don't own the Akai, but this trick lets me reverse the polarity on the Yamaha sustain pedal I like to use with my Novation. Hope it helps.
If you want really good sound quality, use a purple usb cable! It's unbelievable! It's like using Monster Cable for your speakers! ROFLMAO!!! I thought I'd heard everything... then I read this! OMG. Let's be 100% clear people: a USB cable is a USB cable, is a USB cable! Period! It don't matter what color it is!!!
he says that but i am learning finger drumming with my launchkey 25 and the pads are great. if theyre the same pads in the mini, i think youll have fun with it. im using a program called melodics but if you're a drummer you may not need that instruction
Hi there I bought the novation but it didn't come yet. I m regretting now cause I think the akai could fit better with the fl studio. I m wrong? are there huge differences setting up this two keyboards for fl? Which one is better for fl? Thanks for your time
Does the Launchkey have same plug and play feat like the mpkMini? My Mac came w Logic Pro and I’m no software savvy. Like the idea of controlling hardware
Hey bro nice video. I was going to start producing beats using my iPad with an app called beatmaker 3. I am trying to find a midi controller that I could use. Do you think the akai mini mk2 is a good choice because the launchkey is more for ableton users?
hello. im interested in electronic sound with looping. first i bought the boss 505 and now i need a programm for my laptop (microsoft) a DAW or something to "make music",could you give me an advice?
Is there any way with Launchkey Mini to overwrite just recorded MIDI clip from scratch? I only found it can write on top of existing recording and not from scratch. Thanks!
Hey! I am using my rp102 as a midi controller , but i am having latency issues😔 I adjusted the sample rate and buffer rate and the latency reduced but its still there ! I have a good pc ! A good cable . So do you think that if I buy a launchkey mini Then my latency will reduce ! Thnx in advance
@@Taetro just say its a roland digital piano ! And i am facing audio lag , help. Also loved your performances bro ! I want to do the same but latency issues are giving me pure headache :( Appreciate if you help
Hey Taetro, would you recommend this for Synthwave (stranger things, 80's sorta music) over anything else in the price range for mini midi's? Just starting out and don't know anything about arrangements, notes, or instruments yet. So it would be something to play around with. Or should I get a full size without all the pads? Going to be using arp a lot, and sustain.
Which one is better for GarageBand? I bought an iPad not too long ago and I’m trying to make some good music with it, but I don’t know which ones better for iPad 😶
sorry to say but garageband isn’t the best DAW (digital audio work surface). get used to using garageband but then get logic pro x which is garageband but more professional or you can use fl studio or ableton live.
