It's interesting to note how Chams keeps saying "sorry" to the men whenever she speaks for a lengthy period of time. Don't apologize sister. You have as much a right to speak and pose questions to Akala as the men do.

You stated "If milk can transform a newborn totally dependent baby to a strong toddler who can walk and run...It is common sense that it is good for you." and I replied by stating "imagine how 'stronger' the child would be rather drinking another mammals milk which is totally foreign to the child's system"... Trying to get across to you that our milk is better than cow's milk, goat's milk etc... In addition, just because an infant grows 'healthy' whilst consuming foreign milk does not mean that it's generally good. It may cause health issues in the long run.

@@chap0syoutuification I haven't heard any Scottish nationalist and trust me I'm around them a lot being from Scotland ever speak or give a fuck about what DNA the English hold. Modern nationalism in Scotland is about Westminster and the impossibility for Scotland to ever have a say in the UK elections. Overwhelming majority in scotland vote against tories... Tories win... We want separated from a culture that isn't ours so we can have our own identity kept, something the 'English' have had a hand in stamping out through policies dating back far. Also their is the overwhelming evidence that Scotland would be better off economically, which rings well in Scotlands ears after years of tory Austerity which by the way wasnt the only way to go about resolving the financial crash. But what did they go and do, fucking make promises all the Westminster scum with their signed declarations in papers promising Scotland all the goodies. Where did it go. Fucking lies. So take your little DNA poi t and shove it up your ass. On a side note just kidding at the end their. Canny help be a little bit Scottish when talking about Scotland, right? haha But yeah, never heard that argument but I've heard plenty better ones for the nationalist cause for Scotland and Wales. I even support the rest of England trying to spectate economically from London. But then Thatcher made that almost impossible. (Edit: changed Ireland to.Wales.)

George and Akala aren't on the same level. Akala is revolutionary and says what others are scared to say. Hence why he's struggled to break into the mainstream. George is nothing special. He's a decent poet but his opinions and knowledge aren't anything special. Hence why the BBC love him.

The comment about the black female law firm exec crying when she came under attack, is in a strange way the best way to approach a scenario where as a black woman, you find yourself coming under attack within a workplace. I was told by my aunty when I was young that sometimes you have to play the victim in order to get a point across. Any black woman in that kind of scenario would instinctively want to stand their ground, cuss couple bad wud, get everyone around them riled up and subsequently become the perpetrator when really they are the victim. So in some scenarios its best to play the victim in order to get your message across... I totally get why she cried.

He probly knew judgemental people would do just that 'judge him' if he talked about his sex life, hence why he has always chosen to keep it private all the time and not comment (like u sed he did in previous interviews u watched), but they clearly dragged it out of him here. I agree with most of the strong valid points Akala mentioned during this interview, but to claim that the grandparents of black children who came to England and didn't go back to their homeland because they were embarrassed is absurd. Coming from a poor family, the only option for my grandmother was to migrate, and if she hadn't my mother and uncles wouldn't have been able to survive - and I'm sure this was the problem for the majority of black caribbean's during that time.

I agree that the economic struggles are real which is the migration took place but he's also right about the pressures and feelings of embarrassment. This was also the same for much of the South Asian community. Returning home with nothing to show and dealing with the stigma caused a lot of people to stay in spite of the racism and ongoing attacks at the time. I do get where ur coming from but Akala isn't totally incorrect with what he pointed out has part of the problem, not the entire problem.

Really enjoyed this interview wow! I feel like I got to learn so much about him. In the US there is very limited information on some of these UK artists. He lets us know enough without letting us know "too much". I respect him even more after this interview. Hope to see him live someday. We love him here.

I have a strong interest in the Caribbean Diaspora, I agree that everything he said about Brooklyn (Flatbush in particular) that Caribbean children in the USA do well in education have a strong presence in private schools and influential in politics (see Shirley chisholm, Basil Paterson) businesses whereas in Canada and the UK is a different story. There is tons of literature on this
@lloydfrancis9149
@lloydfrancis9149 8 лет назад
+vjvj85 But west-Indians also do well in England and many of the Caribbeans in New York use to live in London like my Aunt and Uncle who live in Flatbush BK - Another issue when we are talking about Jamaicans in Particular, there seems to be a difference from U.K to USA - The poorer ones from Kingston and Teverly Gardens ended up in England where as the Jamaicans from Uptown went to America after the Independance from UK and this is why the Culture is more Proud in U.K. I remember when Caribbean people was ashamed to be from the islands in American back in the day - NOT US
@vjvj85

+Lloyd Francis overall not done well. Incarceration rates, single mother home rates, imprisonment rates; key word being rates not that they exist because they exist anywhere in the world These things exist in the USA but not at high rates like that do in the UK or USA. Have there been individuals that have done well, in particular outside of sport and entertainment, yes, but as a collective, no. I'm from the UK so I know what I'm talking about.

Clued up brother but unsure as to his take on 'mixed' identity. He presumes all people who identify as mixed are running from blackness. Thats a subjective view and far too simplistic, it does not take account of racism towards mixed people from BOTH sides of the isle and the resultant identity crisis ... very unfair Akala!
