I swear, Royal gave me so much new found respect for Akechi. This moment here? Absolutely beautiful.

This makes Akechi one of my favorite characters now. The bond between joker and Akechi is special compared to what they had in the original Persona 5.

Akechi is such a deep and interesting character. He could’ve been a. One dimensional insane rival but Akechi has so many layers to him. He literally is staring death in the face and giving it a middle finger.

So Akechi was Joker's biggest regret. That's some true rivalry/friendship anime stuff right there.

Damn. Akechi's role got a huge upgrade from this added segment. Back in the original game they don't even so much as mention him again after his death which was honestly pretty disappointing. Showing how his last stand affects the thieves by factoring it into the endgame choice is an even better upgrade than I anticipated

I love how sounds his voice with his real attitude.

I absolutely love how much Akechi embodies the chaos alignment from mainline to quote Louisa Ferre "humans, born of god's madness belong to me, though I have no love for them I won't abandon them either, that is freedom"

I didn’t really understand the Akechi hype in Vanilla, but Royal turned him into my absolute favorite character. He’s such a breath of fresh air to a team built entirely on optimism and the power of friendship. My only regret is that we didn’t have MORE time with him and Sumi as the sole party members, and him playing Navi. Those Navi lines live in my head rent-free

Truthfully, As Robin Hood follows the theme of the other Phantoms’ Initial Personas’ theme of mostly from modern fictions or historical figures whether proven or contested...BUT is not actually Akechi’s Initial Persona,... AND Loki follows the theme of the other Phantoms’ 2nd Tier Ultimate Personas’ theme of being mythological tricksters...BUT is actually Akechi’s TRUE Initial Persona,... Hereward “seemingly” follows the theme of the other Phantoms’ 3rd Tier Ultimate Personas’ theme of which it is the result of fusing the historical figure Initial Persona & the mythological trickster 2nd Tier Ultimate Persona AND said result is the being named after the original names of the fictional characters their initial Personas represent; ...BUT IS ACTUALLY the fusion of two standalone Personas resulting to Akechi’s TRUE Ultimate Persona. 🤔

And people say Goro is the worst character in the game.

6:38 Its so messed up Maruki completely disregards Akechi's feelings about his own life and death. At this point Maruki thinks he's being benevolent by granting Joker's wish, but its at the price of Akechi's autonomy as a human being. People say the false reality ending kills Sumire, but I'd argue it kills Goro Akechi too. His personality and memory rewrites are so extensive he may as well be a completely different person.

Small detail, but I really love how Joker has that little moment of "There's no going back now..." That little moment of doubt in situations like that is usually reserved for if you make the BAD choice, like accepting Yaldabaoth's deal, for example. It adds that little bit of uncertainty that makes this ending decision feel a lot less clear-cut. I really like that.

Robbie Daymond gets my ovations one more time! Completely different intonation and sounding of Goro. You literally can see his change from hokey detective to cocky realist. I watched this in japanese dub, which is good too, but english dub subdues to the core.

... Goro... I am so proud of you. He made the heroic choice. Even if he were to die again, he didn't hesitate to end this illusion...

Damn, this game really makes it hard to hate Maruki, he's nowhere near the level of bad as anyone we faced before and he tries really hard not to fight us because he honestly wants us to be happy

I got to say that i LOVE Robbie's delievey for Akechi- I love the BS line in this video as well as the calos line when 3rd awaking happened. RObbie has a smooth line and I love every moment of it. thanks robbie

Honestly, my thoughts are the same as with the JP version. Akechi showing what he really thinks and feels is a masterpiece. You can really feel the emotion. Of all the dubs I've played, P5 has the most amazing cast (voice actors).

I hated Akechi so much in the original. I didn’t care for his death since he attempted to murder Joker and blackmail the rest of the team. But Royal tho. My god this version really sheds light on his character in such a better way. Therefore he’s become one of my favorite characters, and definitely worthy of being the rival of Joker. Thank you Atlus for making Akechi a more loveable character.

It would be interesting they show us how akechi awaken his persona for the first time

Akechi is such a well written character. He may have been a villian but he died as a hero. In the grand scheme of things, his death literally meant the world. "A tree that has its branches reach to the heavens, has its roots laid in hell" or something like that is the quote. He personifies that saying. His capacity for good is equal to his capacity for evil. Fuckin S+ tier character and writing.

I gotta love how even though Akechi knows he will disappear once they defeat Maruki, he still does it anyway so we don't have to live in a fake reality And Robbie really did well with his voice, gosh I love it when he shows his true colours

I always loved how out of all of the Phantom thieves in the 3rd semester, Akechi, the one who will dissappear if Maruki's reality is destroyed, is the most determined to end Maruki's reality. The 3rd semester made me love him even more. Lol.

This confuses me even more, Akechi for sure didnt die in shidos palace thanks to the new ending, so was Maruki just trying to manipulate them both by saying Akechi died?

Before P5: Royal came to be, I’ve being working on a fanfiction in which in the original events of P5, before Akechi seemingly passed away, he was actually able to send his Robin Hood Persona to Ren to help fulfill the deal of defeating Shido on his stead AND POSSIBLY represent that Robin Hood is a Persona forged by Akechi’s bond with Ren as Akechi is technically a Wild Card user. But as Robin Hood is used by Ren, similar to Picaro Personas being wielded by a heart of the Trickster would trigger a change of color scheme and form. As Akechi’s Robin Hood design is based on a light savior superhero like Superman, The Robin Hood “Picarro” wielded by Ren would be more of a dark vigilante hero like Batman combining elements from Akechi’s true Black Mask outfit as well as the traditional green we know well worn by Robin Hood. Though it’s DEFINITELY not exact what I was thinking, Akechi’s TRUE Ultimate Persona being that the idea of the one who inspired Robin Hood whose design has Black Mask elements and also Akechi’s resolution in which resulted to it, in my opinion is why Akechi’s Hereward is MY #2 Fave Ultimate Persona AND MY #2 Fave “3rd Tier” Persona😈😎

Goro really went “fuck it I’m Batman now”

Ren’s ideal reality is one where akechi is alive and well, is on good terms with everyone else in the phantom thieves, and never had anything bad happen to him. That’s the only thing he wanted, as far as i can tell.

Akechi's *Loki* has evolved into *Batman*

Honestly Akechi's redemption arc was extremely needed. The Vanilla P5 didn't do his character the justice he really deserved. I'm a big fan of him and find him to be an extremely well-written character, but of course, I agree he's done unjustifiable things(though to me that just shows just how much Shido screwed him over). Yet having said that, he also has a great amount of chemistry with Akiren, (as shown in the confidant interactions). I personally dislike it when people claim he's innocent, to be honest. He's not, that's part of the reason why he's such a peculiar character in comparison to the others. I believe people have fallen for the mask he puts on as "the charming prince detective", which only shows how little they know about his true self, and overall character, which leads to him not being appreciated for who he really is.

8:17 This scene and the engine room scene were the ones where Akechi became one of my favorite characters of all time, i went from hating him to loving him and in the end we never got our rematch. You never really get to know someone until after they're gone

Not me crying at this scene and thinking "You know what? I did everything for everyone, I was there for all of them when they needed me. Let me have just ONE moment of selfishness." Even then I couldn't accept the deal..

Honestly picking the fake reality is extremely selfish, for the others it's selfless, but for Akechi? This is his life we are talking about, you're basically telling him that you own him if you pick the fake reality. You don't own his life and you can't force him to be alive, despite how sad that is.

The thing is, I am pretty sure Akechi didn't die in the boiler room. Cause illusions disappear once you know they are unreal (how Wakaba and Okumura disappeared and Morgana is cat again). So I think Maruki actually teleported him from somewhere (and he probably returned to where he was after they defeated Maruki, alas his appearance in the final of the game).

Honestly if there’s another game I hope they continue the redemption path for Akechi. In the third semester I’d put him where vegeta was during namek and the android arc. An ally but not fully redeemed yet. I don’t even think he needs to lose his more aggresive side that he displayed. I think that shows he’s willing to be more open with the phantom thieves and especially Joker than he was previously. It’ll help his walls come sown.

Akechi’s persona is a mix with justice and evil that makes a balanced persona

So the Akechi in the real world at this point of the history is the true and official Akechi? Because boy, I really wanted Akechi to survive Shido's Palace, and continue as a Phantom Thieve or just as a friend.

This game really did such a good job on making it hard for you to make the right choice(for reality) like honestly they made you see how everybody lives would’ve changed if everything went perfect for them and you start to think maybe they deserve it with everything they’ve been threw. And then they show you this that not only your teammates will loose there well deserved perfect life, but Akechi would loose his own life. And the fact that he knew all along makes it even more serious it really made me sometimes just go with the bad ending and forget it all

You’ve made a lot of these so I understand if you’re like chilling right now, but could you make a vid on what happens if you accept the deal?

I actually played out both endings and what’s crazy idk which is better because the reality he made based off of things that made an individual happy, those dreams became tangible and even akechi with all his pain was free 😩 such a good character and worthy of my favorite

Seeing Joker and Akechi pain and suffering they endured reminds me of Ramza and Delita from Final Fantasy Tactics. Joker like Ramza knows Aketchi's pain like Delita's, they both fight for justice and help each other, on opposite sides, i hope Aketchi has a happy ending that won't be like Delita's ending of being alone knowing what they work hard for to help the good people, i feel bad for him. :(

The game makes it very clear why Maruki’s mindset is flawed when you attempt the quiz puzzle and see his opinions on a “healthy individual”. He wants no one to experience any form of suffer either self induced hardship or forced, he wants to essentially lobotomies everyone where eventually people will stop thinking(bad ending when u don’t deliver calling card)

Even though Akechi is a messed up human being who needs jail time and therapy. I love his character as he sticks to his ideals and doesn’t stray from them. After being treated like a puppet his entire life it’s perfectly understandable why he rejects Maruki’s reality. Akechi is one of the most complex characters in the persona series and I wouldn’t complain if there were a whole game about him. ❤️

Details that I love here: a) Akira's illusion is not a wish-fulfillment for himself, but that a person he couldn't save gets to live b) Akechi would rather die than be under someone's control; He might be evil but he's CHAOTIC evil. Gotta respect that. c) How consequent the game is with its "control is bad" message in rejecting even genuinely benevolent control

Maruki: Oh, Akiren, are you sure you want to feel sad again? Just take this tsundere Akechi and live happily with him Now we know that Maruki is Shuake shipper ╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭ P.s. Akechi is such a strong boy! I love him so much! Robbie's voice made the scene absolutely stunning. I'm crying :С

Marukis not a villain, he’s just a hyper-pacifist with a messiah complex

even though akechi betrayed us, he made the most selfless sacrifice. he threw away his second chance at life so the world can go back to what it was. he truly was the dark knight of this game. I can't express how amazing atlas made Akechi an even better character for a better purpose.

So i literally just finished P5R two days ago and I loved this scene. Akechi comes full circle and it also completes the Hegal dialectic method and comparison of Thesis, Antithesis and Synthesis. And for me, that's fucking awesome! Thesis - Detective Prince: The Detective Prince is the thesis, the starting point and what is presented to us the players and the world around him. I wouldn’t be surprised if these notions of Justice were further amplified annd brought back up to the surface through his relationship with Joker. And while his Crow outfit might not be what you’d expect of someone’s rebellious spirit, giving it more of a nobleman look but it fits the Detective Prince persona. Robin Hood being his base Persona is likewise a really awesome and interesting thing because it’s very likely that this was in fact his original Persona. I look at Robin Hood as being the manifestation of Akechi’s own personal desires to be a hero from when he was younger, if Robin Hood’s schtick was to take from the rich and give to the poor, then Akechi’s is very much the same of wanting to be a detective and play hero to put away corrupt adults like his father etc. It’s also nice to see the facade chip away just a little bit in combat and that he’s very much a dork and a showoff in a very Tokusatsu hero way that is hammy as hell and it completely effin’ works. I wouldn’t be surprised even more if he grew up watching Neo Featherman shows as a kid and aspired to be like that, heck you can even tie that into the whole thing of having a toy gun playing hero as a kid to emulate those same ones. Antithesis - BM: The Black Mask is the antithesis and it’s the exact opposite of what you’d expect him to be on first impressions. You wouldn’t expect the prim and proper Detective Prince to be a berserker with rage issues, self-loathing and having all these feelings of anger, envy, spite, inadequacy and pent up baggage so when it all comes tumbling out, it’s honestly one hell of a contrast to see him be so chaotic. Loki is such an awesome and unique fit for the Black Mask being a trickster, a deceiver, a destroyer and ultimately someone of mayhem and chaos. I wouldn’t be surprised if Loki was brought up to the surface through Yaldabaoth, Shido and/or even Wakaba to some extent and it reflected his darker impulses and side that he tries to repress in order to blend in with society. And well, he’s a slave to these desires by wanting revenge on Shido that he’ll throw away his humanity, his reason and any bonds he could have had. Synthesis - 3rd Semester: 3rd Semester is the synthesis of the real him being somewhere in the middle and coming together by becoming a better version of himself that isn’t broken and alone through Joker and enabling himself to be unapologetically honest with himself. So he doesn’t have to hide behind false pretence, trying to be something that he isn’t and that it isn’t about fighting against your darker impulses but embracing them and using them as a force for good. He’s smug, ruthless and just as much of a berserker that loves to throw down as he was in his BM time but it’s combined with the uncompromising desire to do good that DP seemed to want to do and break Maruki’s reality because it’s the right thing to do, consequences be damned because it’s a lie and he’s done playing a pawn to someone else’s desires and being overwhelmed by his own crap. I guess you could say, it’s adhering to his own personal brand of justice. Likewise, he’s fully in control of himself. Everything about him just screams “Now you’re dealing with the real deal here.” Everything comes full circle with Hereward in the 3rd Awakening completing his journey as a hero/anti-hero type of character with it basically being Robin Hood but with a darker colour palette ala BM and Loki. It completes the state of Synthesis by becoming a hero that abides by his own chaotic brand of justice and execution but is still someone on the side of good who may operate in the grey area more than others but he’s perfectly fine with that because that’s who he is.

I’m so glad that Akechi gets the redemption he needed because a lot of people really hated him. I’m also very happy that we get to know him a little more ❤️

Robin Hood: Lawful Good. The desired hero Akechi wanted to be. Lawful Justice. Loki: Chaotic Evil. The villain Akechi ended up becoming. Personal Justice. Hereward: Chaotic Neutral, and the man Akechi became at the end by accepting both sides of himself.

Holy shit I just processed this, wild cards can obtain multiple personas due to having bonds with other characters, Akechi only has 2 personas pre Hereward, Loki (his own persona the equivalent of Arsene or carmen for example), and Robin Hood. Despite Robin Hood being the justice arcana and Futaba saying it comes from his false personality Robin Hood could be the persona formed from his bond with the protagonist. Thieves den conversations somewhat go against this but I think it’s a neat idea

Reminder the true ending with akechis maxed confidant and a datamined scene of him in a rehab center hints that akechi DID survive shidos palace, maruki just didn't know.

After I beat the game 4 times I still come back to this. So good.

Man, Akechi's "pleasant" persona really pissed me off throughout the entire vanilla, but I'm in love with his edgesona

I know this is kinda off-topic, but I always had curiosity of what was written in Maruki's Calling Card, since he is completely different from all the previous palace rulers, the approach should obviously be different from "The utter bastard of lust" for example.

Robin Hood - Elemental Hero Loki - Destiny Hero Hereward - Evil Hero

With the final cutscene and the fact Akechi didn't disappear like Okamura and Wakaba leads me to him being alive the whole time but not wanting Joker to know because he wants to start over.
