From the perspective of a monitoring headphone that people also like to use casually. If they weren't already out of fashion, these killed the M50x/M40x dead.
I think the M50x hasn't been bought from an informed perspective on the sound for a long long time, most of it's just word of mouth and the styling IME. That headphone is kind of the Beats for people who think they know better than to buy Beats/the next step up from a Razer gaming headset, for many.
This video made up my mind to go for the k371 over the k361. It sounds like the k371 would suit my taste preference more. Just got the k371 a week and a half ago. I agree they do sound a little laid back in the bass except way down in the sub bass. This review is pretty spot on, I can say, now that I own them.
To anyone considering buying the AKG 371 (BT), I can honestly say they are well worth their price tag! Did a lot of research and considerations including this well-presented review before choosing to go for the 371 and was not dissappointed! Yes, the only thing I found was I have to adjust them each time I put them on so they set perfectly on my ears, but you can easily hear when they are settled right for you on your ears, so no big problem at all. Also, I find them very comfortable wearing for a long time and don't find them too tight on my rather big (sweaty head). Great sound, too, but I do not not have that much to compare with in that matter. I am extremely satisfied with the sound quality.
How are the K553 compared to the 371s? I have the 371s and thinking about taking them back for the 553s for mixing and mastering hip hop beats. What do you think?
I wanted to tell Wheezy but didn’t. K361 can take Sennheiser Momentum 1&2 headphone cables. While the Sennheisers can’t take the K361’s twist lock being too big. I had to return the K361 due to scrunchy pads
ya skirt. no. the sennheiser momentum’s use a 2.5mm slimmer connector hence why it works on the k361 but the k361 cable is too fat to work on the momentums
Hi, how would these compare to the Beyerdynamics DT770's, especially as far as detail? I'm not sure about the time you filmed this, but right now the DT770's and K371's are both just under $160.
Great review and comparisons Max, thank you. Been using the K361 for a few weeks now, very happy so far. Tuning is also of my liking, it's super lightweight, headband doesn't bother me at all even after X hours, very comfy overall. Just needed to play with adjustment system to find the right fit for me. I just wish they used the same mini-XLR connector. :/ Not sure if the K371 QC was just batch or something but personally i haven't seen complaint about the K361, mine is surely totally fine. At their price point it's a great deal imo.
I own the two. I like 371 more than 361 although in piano jazz (very hard to play for headphones, less for loudspeakears) 371 is more colored. btw a few days ago I received my new Audio-Technica MSR7b (B underlined!) and, speaking of 200$ headphones I found these the BEST ones by FAR in my 12 HPs collection . I'm sincerely surprised because no one of the testers I appreciate and follow have not reviewed them yet. especially in balanced mode (I use to drive them with my Fiio M11) they're surprising. not fully neutral, but at the same time not fatiguing, although estremely detailed, and with an outstanding clarity in the voices, controlled lows, dampened mid-bass, very low distortion...I find them incredibly good
I just bought K371 but during my search, i also thought MSR7. I read that MSR7 has some sibilance or unnatural treble failures sometimes and comfort issues a little bit so i choose K371. Before i bought it, MSR7B has released and i read that this new model has no comfort and unnatural treble issues so far. I really wondered this headphone but in this web world, nobody has reviewed this headphone yet. This headphone is a little bir pricier than K371. Since there is no review, i do not want to risk my money and i choose K371 and i am happy with that so much. Nice to hear that you liked that also. By the way, i would like to say thanks to headphone reviewers esp. Tyll, Metal571, Oluv, Wheezy Reviews, Max Settings, Zeos, Joshua Valour, damir franc (nitpicker), DMS, Alex Rowe, totallydubbedHD, lachlanlikesathing, minidisc and the others who try to make honest reviews and give valuable info to consumers and producers for choosing the right music gear. I am just in the beginning at this hobby and will follow all of them. Many of us cannot try these headphones before buy and these honest reviews help us to make a true decision.
@@erestortatum , I'd like to join in thanking the referred reviewers, and yes, I owned the MSR7 (not B) and although it was a nice hp suffered of some issues in terms of treble and comfort, but the new B version has overcome these problems big time. also, when listening in balanced mode it's ulteriorly consolidated.
Harman is neutral relative to ideal studio speakers in a room. It has little to do with listener preferences. Only the bass (below 150 Hz) is boosted based on listener preference. The rest of the target was determined with actual human ear measurements as well as simulated ear measurements.
That is not correct actually. I had this discussion with Sean Olive a couple weeks ago. Harman target started off trying to replicate flat speakers in a room, however over time the target did turn into a preference curve. Listeners were given the target which was replicating speakers and were allowed to boost the treble and the bass how they wanted to, and then those results are averaged out to the modern Harman target.
@@bluefilmsltd I think its their nature, even when I got a good seal the mids were like that, and maybe I'm overly sensitive to these frequency, although thats the first HP that bothered me in that department. IMO these are overhyped, just like many new headphones that push heavy YT review campaigns...
Interestingly CAL is hovering around $49 now on Amazon US. At that price I think it still makes a lot of sense, but definitely go K361 still if you can afford it lol
@@metal571 Yea I'm being harsh. I already have CAL and I love it. Will probably pick up one of these, but doubt I'll sell my CAL. Appreciate you pointing that out since someone could have been misguided by that. CAL is still good people!
Very good review thank You! I've been looking to upgrade from koss porta pro which I like... so looking for headphone for in-home use with relaxing, warm (maybe dark a bit) sound that is not sibilant. What I wish most for is the bass reproduction capability. The PP lacks the low bass reproduction below 40hz at all and lack any rumble at any range. I just want to listen to soundtracks and play video games (just single player and immersion) and k361/371 are on my list also thanks to Your review! There is also Denon ah d1200, sony mdr 1am2, dt770 32ohm and some more. I don't care if it's on or over ear, closed or open as it's a home use. Those look to have less mid's and high bass than porta pro but a lot more happening below 100hz... so maybe these would be good. btw - I've had CAL! and thought it was boring, uncomfortable and there was nothing exciting about it. Also pro82 v1 which sounded clear and detailed but too sibilant for me with some high instrumetns. in short - looking for fun dynamic headphone like Porta pro but with more low capability maybe
I have these as well as the m50x's and m40x's and I prefer these over those too. That being said, These aren't end game in my opinion, There is a spot in the range that I find quite harsh or lacklustre, and to my ear it's around the 3-4k mark. They are also really quite analytical or literal, and much like the m40x's I don't find myself wanting to use them, even for mixing/ mastrting.
@@samarthrao2044 eq the 8khz down by 35% in the 361 and they are neutral. the 371 have a bit more bass i think but i never tried them. i sold my 361, i would not buy them again. they are designed for bigger ears too and i have smaller ears. if i had bigger ears and bigger head i might try the 371
@@mikelisteral7863 my k361s are on the way and I recently returned the m40x because they lacked clarity and were hella uncomfortable, I have heard only good things bout k361s except the qc issues, why did you return your k361s??

@AKG I bought the AKG #K371 headsets and they are garbage. I rarely used these headphones, and after about two years - the ear pads are falling off and the headband is shredding as if I've taken them to war. I have the Audio Technica R70 and those things are a beast. I have had them for at least 4 years and they still look brand new as a testament to how well I take care of my gear. Really disappointed #AKG
Tape. Set them where you want when you wear them, then tape just below that. Do it it on both sides for aesthetic symmetry. Black electrical tape would do it.
plz review zmf verite and aelous....and also review audeze lcd 2 using metal 571 eq settings....i live in a remote town in india..i want to buy my first headphone....but i cant spend money to buy verite..if lcd 2 is good with eq i may buy a used one
