Let's head to the ole' stomping grounds of Akihabara. We're gonna do a bit of window shopping and browse multiple showcases! Retro ReWire Game Tours: / retrorewire
Exellent video JJ, these always put a smile on my face thanks for going into such detail once again. One thing i've started to notice that a lot of stores focus more and more on having premium titles that are high in demand rather then the really rare not for sale titles they used to have mixed in their display cabinets, which is kind of a shame since a lot of display cases have the same stuff that way but it's understandable.
You’re right on the money. Akumajo Densetsu (Castlevania 3) is a prime example. It’s a fairly common premium title found in most showcases. We’ll have to keep hunting in hopes of find the more obscure and rare! More videos to com, cheers!
I was looking to every videos for the last few weeks !! And today I actually was in Akiba aaaall day looking at every shops thanks to you and a lot of different youtubers maybe I passed you 🤣 anyways thank you soooo much for the work !!
Awesome video again...love the quick peek at the different stores in Akihabara. Prices getting up there especially for Surugaya - as they sell stuff on proxy website services.
I believe Surugaya also has an official overseas website. In some respects Book Off has the lower prices, and by a wide margin, haha. I’ll leave a link to their official site: www.suruga-ya.com/en/index Cheers!
I know what you mean about getting fleeced by game shops. I remember going to a store in the UK called CEX and seeing how much I’d get for Harmful Park and they offered me a measly £1. Admittedly this was over 10 years ago but it’s always been a premium title.
£1 for Harmful Park! Haha, that's organized crime. I hit up 4 shops in the past week for the purpose of selling, and all purchasing quotes were between ¥5,000-¥7,000 for a fully working model 1 Mega Drive/Mega CD combo with 6-button pad, metal connection plate and all cables. For a CIB Neo Geo CD top loader I was offered ¥8,000. Needless to say, I didn't sell, haha. It's time look at online selling options, cheers!
Much appreciated, I got more videos in the works! I'm slowly building my Famicom and Super Famicom collections. I'm not gonna go too crazy with quantity, but I'll have to spend a bit for them quality titles, haha. Cheers!
Hi ! An other great video, I really like your style : shooting, editing, it's a very good work ! Thank you to show us so many Neo Geo games... But it's going crazy because Japanese shops are becoming more expensive than eBay... and the quality of the material is going down I think. Anyway, it is really cool to get news from our common passion ! :) Thanks !
Much appreciated! Part of the reason of the rising prices is due to the weak yen. Recently NHK published a video covering this issue. And I agree, the condition of certain games are dropping. I’ll leave a link to the NHK report in case you’re interested, cheers! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jeENCQe2U9Q.html
I saw about 5 titles on my wanted list. You bypassed Twinkle Tale on the MD it goes for $1000 over here and was the developers only game. It has a very good reputation. I don't mind seeing Konami wares on show even if they are common, they are definitely some of the 16 bit highlights for me. Especially the audio and presentation.
great video, wow tacos and a nice ice cold beverage 😊🎉, my favorite one that I seen on there was kof 2002 😊, a lot of great cool games 🎮 😊, me I just got to upload a video to my RU-vid channel, but before I do that I want to make it look all professional 😅, add some anime at the beginning and end of each video, and did you see "The Flash" movie when it came out on dvd 📀 😊, just asking, I seen the trailers and they looked cool 😎, you make great videos, thanks
Just the video I need as I am planning to go to Tokyo on November after three years of Covid-19... Price escalated to the level never expected as shown on video, but I do see some items that I want to have when I visit.Thank you for real helpful information! I do have a question regarding Retro Rewire game tour you offer, but unfortunately, I do not use Facebook anymore. Is there any other way to contact you discussing about taking the tour in November?
I am glad you found the video helpful! My contact info is on my RU-vid about page: www.youtube.com/@RetroReWire/about Instagram is another option: instagram.com/retro_rewire/ Looking forward to hearing from you, cheers!
Most places will place a label on the game that states what's missing. The shops will also check if anything is missing if you ask. Some stores don't factor in missing registration and obi cards into the final price while others do. Trader has a pretty good labeling system. Cheers!
Do you remember why all those PSP's were "Junk"? My Google translator just said "defective body"? But they all looked so clean! (Coming in October and hope to score a few different colors variants)
At that particular junk shop they don’t go into details about the defects. I have bought a number of handhelds and consoles from them and it’s always been simple fixes. Sometimes it’s simply cosmetic defects. Cheers!
Haha, both Shibuya and Akiba are densely packed. There is some fun in going alone, but in most cases going with close friends is much more fun. Cheers!
@@clumzee1 I recommend you google, "japan proxy service." You will see loads of results, haha. I'm not exactly sure on rates, reputation, and quality of service, however.
prices are way too high imo...md games specially...last year i bought an ARROW FLASH for about half that price...from ebay italy xD i reviewed fc makaimura on my channel..there is a cheat to continue on the title screen...western version doesnt need any cheat code to continue though....i own sfc sfz2...cool port all things considered..i paid about $100 for it
I really want that SFZ2! I sold my loose cart as I want a CIB copy of the game. Part of the reason for higher prices is partly due to the weak yen. Here is a link to an NHK report that touches on this subject: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jeENCQe2U9Q.html Cheers!
Welp, after seeing those prices, the days of cheap retro games and consoles in Akiba are officially over. They’re really taking advantage of the open tourist season now that Covid restrictions are almost gone and tourists bringing in their money to buy some stuff. The price of that lone copy of Macross for the SFC is just plain highway robbery. Seems that places outside of Tokyo have far better prices and stocks. Time to change my itinerary 😅
Thanks for tuning in! Prices on retro games have indeed risen. A few deals can still be found in Akiba, but the effort may not be worth it or even possible for some. Time and retro destiny are two factors, haha! The whole retro pricing makes for an interesting topic. These price hikes are happening all over Japan, across many industries. NHK produced a video about the price hikes and how locals are trying to adapt. It's some good food for thought, cheers! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jeENCQe2U9Q.html
Prices will also vary by game genre. Shooters like that SFC Macross, beat'em ups, racing games, puzzle games, fighting games, etc. don't require any Japanese language knowledge, so foreign tourists eat those up and they have definitely risen in price. Games from anime that lots of foreigners know (Sailor Moon, Ranma, Pokemon) have also gone up.
