Welcome back Akira Bike Project fans!
In this video, I get a final new shop, this time a house with an attached shop, build up the new shop and start the CX500 rebuild.
Follow along while I'm designing and building a fully functional high performance recumbent motorcycle inspired by Kaneda's ride in "Akira" in this ambitious motorcycle project.

Man, your new shop is wonderful and rigged beautifully. Then on top of that, the lazy-Susan for the engine! This bike build is one heck of a fun journey to follow along with. Thank you sir.

Good choice on the Honda CX500 engine. Congratulations on finding a shop/house in the Seattle (my) area, not an easy task unless you have very deep pockets.

Oh yeah that was rough, every single week for over a year it was look for new listings on, plan open house visits on the weekend, submit offers mon + tuesday, get in bidding wars, and lose. repeat over and over.

For how much that weighs you should use a larger engine. Use a VTX 1800 engine and you can use the shaft drive.

Agreed, going with something lighter for the for the first gen prototype to make it less likely I'll get seriously injured in early testing , I have a cx500 turbo (75HP) and a cx650 turbo (100 HP) that'll I'll upgrade to

I wanna see a future version of the project with twin electric motors in the hubs. Instead of a battery pack it could be powered by a gas engine, just like the Fisker Karma.

I was actually doing some design studying on a serial hybrid version of this, this actually seems much more practical in a recumbent motorcycle like mine than say a car or truck. You have the extra room for the extra motor/generator, the low aerodynamic cross section, and most importantly, drag low enough that a small generator could do it. Moving the motors to the hubs would free up even more room, but with the disadvantage of hub motors creating higher unsprung mass. Probably an acceptable compromise in a high mileage road vehicle though. Might be in v2 or v3!

I'm using Lightwave for most of my design work, which is actually a 3D animation and modeling program. I re-create things in SolidWorks to do stress analysis.
