Their inital plan was to make andrew akko canon, but they discussed it a bit and they discharged the idea, in favour of a neither of them canon, because it's a show based on friendship. (I ship diakko too btw)

Plot twist: when Andrew was stung by the Cupid bee, the Cupid bee lost its “Cupid” part. All of the stings it did were normal stings that made them feel weird. It made Diana feel strange so she incautiously decided to spit out her feelings to Akko. edit: oh mah gawsh, i finished this anime and wrote this a long time ago, but i have 161 likes :0

I just finished the show and honestly? They should of been canon. Diana saying she was jealous of Akko really made me feel things. I loved when they worked together to defeat the missile and it's just a really underrated anime in general. They definitely should of been canon their relationship dynamic is absolutely beautiful as it progresses. Even if they're really good friends I absolutely love seeing them together and working together to take down new obstacles. This makes me want a season 2 even more 🥺

I think they didn’t kiss because studio trigger thought that girls kissing was a topic a bit too mature for like the 7-10 year old kids watching this. Because the show is a kids show. Edit: Can y’all please stop coming at me saying stuff like “lgbtq couples aren’t any different from straight couples!” This is what I believe studio trigger thought, not my own personal thoughts.

For the shippers out there: I just want yall to know that the creator has drawn fanart of diana and akko (NSFW warning tho) and there's also a doujinshi (NSFW as well, called xxx or something, not hard to find) made in the exact same style as the manga which people speculate is also made by the creator (considering that he drew nsfw before and that the artstyle and the expressions of the characters are WAY too similar). Here's the link for the fanart (AGAIN NSFW WARNING!!) dynasty-scans.com/images/14060 made by Yoshinari (the creator). Do with this information what you want. This pretty much confirms to me that Diakko is canon and that if it werent for the strict and homophobic laws of Japan they would've totally been together by the end of the show. At least this was the intention of the creator.
