Everyone over 28 KNOWS Al B was a STUDIO SINGER and it was what it was back then. What made his songs hits was Teddy Riley's production & the way Al B delivered in those songs.
He could NOT sing for shit when he started, so true! But he got better quickly... heard him sing his part on "The Secret Garden" a couple years later, and he blew it out the water! He did improve greatly. His more recent material bears witness to this.
This was me & my boo Tony jam.Couldn't tell 13 year old us nothing 😂Shout-out to Timmy Gatling ❤️ Fun fact: this is one of only two Al B Sure songs that have clear lyrics 😁
I'm looking at some comments and wondering if we were all watching the same video. Lol When I think of someone who "can't sing", I think of William Hung. Al B. went a little flat on a few of the high-notes here, but other than that he sounded fine. I think the problem was that his voice was maybe a bit generic compared to other male singers of the era. Still a great performer with great songs. And he had and still has a cold-ass falsetto!
I respectfully disagree. He sounds horrible and moves awkwardly. It is like he has no respect for his craft. Even back then in my teens I thought he looked ridiculous. I remember his appearance on the Apollo where he wore those tight high waisted mom jeans showing off his chubby girl body and thought, "Whoa. This just might be the end of civilization." Then I listened to the Sign of The Times, Terrence Trent Darby, and Appetite for Destruction albums and realized there was hope.
You mean it was bad and terrible mostly terribly bad. LOL This comes from a guy who liked Al B Sure back in the 80's and 90's. I liked his music but never knew he could not sing.
That was the thing about Al. we wasnt particularly a good live singer, many artist arent resorting to lipsync made specifically for shows, certainly alota rappers cant freestyle off the top. BUT!!! Al really did put out alota really great tracks when you listen to em now. Most artist of the time only had at best two good tracks on an entire album.
dont get me wrong the song is the shit but on the real he couldnt sing at all, but he looks so fucking good that u over look the fact that he cant sing!!!
My mom let me buy my first Slick Rick tape for my 12th/ 13th ? birthday. I put it on in the car and she nearly had stroke when "Indian Girl" came on! LOL (Needless to say this was before record labels were required to put the Explicit Lyrics logo on the covers).
Hey I;m glad Riles production was the bomb....I got laid to the Tape not the actual voice....Whhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwww....dag Al .....whoah.....whoaaaah...WTF kinda ad lib is that.LMAO
it was well known in the industry he couldn't sing for shit. back then they had an auto tune type device in the studio to make vocals stay in tune and sound better. artists like Janet and Paula Abdul used it too. he must have took vocal lessons because he sounded a lot better in the 90's
PhuckHue2 this is mind blowing.. Im niw just finding out he is known for not being a great singer..I never really payed attention to his music to now..dont get me wrong I still like his songs I just didnt know people regarded him as not a great singer..
I chuckled a little at first. The performance is not that bad. He is singing live and dancing and a little rapping too. Plus he is staying in key. The hoo ahh I could have done without
1:34 : he wants to say :'Slick help me outta here ..' What must this Dude have been thinking about this unsure performance of B Sure..go Al B. , go Al B..go Al B. ... Wuuoohhaa! Whenever you hab a bad day and you where in not success ..Look here and you are feeling better I bet
Man.... thanks for the throw back but ole boy couldn't sing worth shyt!!! But the women loved him tho!!!! Man I was like 15-16 when this came out.. good grief!!!
no it is not. that is all slick rick. the way its record is to make it sound as of slick rick is having a convo with himself. alot of his first album is tracked that like. also he says "...that i'll be naked"
