Legendary owner Al Davis was born 90 years ago today. We honor and pay tribute to our iconic owner by revisiting his enshrinement speech to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. On August 1, 1992 Al Davis was presented for induction by John Madden. In his speech, Mr. Davis thanked his family, talked about the will to win and his love for the game of football.

While I may not be a Raiders fan, my Uncle Lou (Rest In Peace) was a diehard member of Raider Nation, and he told me all about the Raiders’ glory years. In my opinion, when the Raiders were at their peak, they had the greatest winning culture in not only the NFL but maybe in professional sports. What I think is a testament to that winning culture is that Davis was chosen to present nine Hall of Famers at their ceremony in Canton: Lance Alworth, Jim Otto, George Blanda, Willie Brown, Gene Upshaw, Fred Biletnikoff, Art Shell, Ted Hendricks, and of course, John Madden. When Davis was inducted into the Hall himself, that winning culture was solidified forever. He was a renegade who didn’t care about what anyone else thought. He built his brand on rebellion, diversity, leadership, and victory. He’s done so much for the game of football, and we have Davis to thank for how great the modern game is.

Al Davis copied the Los Angeles Chargers 1960 original shield logo. Al Davis was part of the Los Angeles Chargers coaching staff 1960 birth season through 1962. Al Davis then left the Chargers coaching staff in 1962 to become the manager of the Oakland Raiders in 1963. Al Davis obviously copied the the 1960 L.A.Chargers original shield logo and added it to the Oakland Raiders pirate logo in 1963 because coincidentally the original 1960-1962 Oakland born Raiders pirate team logo didn’t have the shield logo in their original birth year of 1960-1962 until Al Davis joined the Oakland Raiders in 1963 then added the shield logo to the pirate logo. Raiders copy cat shield logo but the true Original L.A.born Shield logo is the Original Los Angeles Chargers battle horse shield logo. Da Da Da Da Charge!!! ⚡️🐴 🏈 Let’s Go Los Angeles Chargers! In 1960 the Los Angeles Chargers win 52-28 vs The Oakland Raiders at the L.A.Coliseum. Then again in 1960 the L.A.Chargers beat the Oakland Raiders at Candlestick stadium in San Francisco. Los Angeles Chargers 41 Oakland Raiders 17 Da Da Dah Dah Da Charge!!!!!⚡️🐴 🏈

hate him or love him, but this man had one of the greatest football minds of all time. thank you mr AL DAVIS you made the raiders a great franchise. i have been an OAKLAND RAIDERS fan from day one 1960. and sometimes other raiders fans come up to me and ask the question, what the hell is wrong with the raiders these days. i simply say this to them. The Raiders will always have a special place in my heart I was born on March 16 1997, I was raised in Oakland, CA and I have always been a Fan Of The Raiders. This team has been through a lot of turmoil and has not been the same since the passing of Al Davis Who passed away On October 8, 2011 at age 82 Years old. Al Davis’s Motto: COMMIT TO EXCELLENCE, JUST WIN, BABY! ONCE A RAIDER, ALWAYS A RAIDER, OAKLAND TO LOS ANGELES BACK TO OAKLAND TO LAS VEGAS, This will always be my team, win lose or tie no matter what happens this will always be my team! The Raiders have always been my favorite team from the beginning of my life and I have always loved this team and I always watch their games whether on Tv or live at Stadium. Erasmus Hall's best. When I moved to Flatbush, Brooklyn there were 2 places I had to visit. Prospect Park where Ebbet's Field was located, and Erasmus Hall High School, where Al took everyone's lunch money... Al Davis, you never took what they gave you, you took what you wanted. RIP
