"I find this music too technical, without any emotion transcending. Almost flat, without color. Or the color is too gray for me> " I certainly hear emotion. Just because they're playing it fast doesn't mean there's no emotion. There's a powerful ferver that I feel in these two songs. I respect that you may not like it because there's too much going on, or you just plain don't like the music, but not that it's too dull and devoid of emotion.

Pienso que ésta música es maravillosa... y estos músicos son SOBRENATURALES.. ahí está la emoción...al menos para mi.

Thanks for the support! 1st time I ever heard him play was in 85 and I got to meet him after the clinic and get his autograph and ask him a few questions. Same thing in 1993 as well. He signed my lp of Casino, Cielo E Terra, Splendido Hotel a few others. He is the man!

Of all the live bands Al had over the years, the one from the late 70s with Tim Landers, Saisse, Robbie Gonzalez, Colon and such was the one that sounded the best for me. And complimented Al's playing the best, just my opinion.

so utterly timeless!! Chick and the boys are coming to bum F egypt here but minus AL !!! Not sure if I will shell out the 65 bones that I don't even have! I'm pretty sure this is in my fav's ;-) I've lost 4 accounts and about 5-700 handmade videos along with 1000's of favorites which really sucks! Would be killer if one of my accounts became unsuspended!!!!

I played back up guitar fro a guy who always looked at the band because he thought we were messing up but it was him and all the beer he drank before the gig,the whole band let him go at once at a Denny's.

I certainly respect and understand that what I am missing, you are finding there. It's all up to the taste of the listener. I listen mostly only to complex music, have formal musical education, used to play in bands (of course not of this caliber), so I hear what's happening. I admire the level of skills - it just does not talk to me in the way I like to be "talked to". If you and others find it appealing, that's only great. Some don't like Planet X - I can't get enough, for example...(in short)

Well, some musicians have definitely been "important," although the meaning of "importance" could vary from person to person. Does it mean influential? Or remarkably talented? Or groundbreaking/original? Or eclectic? Or charismatic? Or virtuosic? Or a maker of music that happens to move a particular person? Most musically educated people would agree that Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Vivaldi, Segovia, Davis, Lennon, McCartney, McLaughlin and Johnson (Eric), for example, have been important.

Quote: "I find this music too technical, without any emotion transcending. Almost flat, without color. Or the color is too gray for me>" It's all relative. The focus is absolutely on technical musicianship rather than visceral emotion. Most jazz fusion is. These guys aren't The Who or 70s Bruce Springsteen *laugh*, but they're not trying to be either. It's just a different form of music. I like it a lot in small doses, but I can't listen to it for hours on end. Like you say, a bit gray.

That's an exaggeration. Definitely a very accomplished player, and maybe one of the 5 most important FUSION players, but not one of the 5 most important ever (from all genres).

Probably true. But the impact he's had on the metal guitar world is huge as well

Is anyone single musician really important? Frank Zappa, by all music standards, was important but he never considered himself an important musician. I find this music too technical, without any emotion transcending. Almost flat, without color. Or the color is too gray for me>
