Summary:
A guitar trio was originally formed in 1979 with McLaughlin, Lucia, and Larry Coryell. After touring Europe and releasing a video recorded at London's Royal Albert Hall, Coryell was replaced by Di Meola. The bulk of Friday Night in San Francisco, this trio's first album release, was recorded at the Warfield on the night prior to the one when this recording was made. It is clear here why they chose to use that recording, as all three virtuosos are at the top of their game.

Saw them twice. Braunsweig and Sydney. Just amazing. At the Braunsweig '80 concert the crowd would not leave after the hall lights came on. Everyone stamping their feet until they had to come back on again.

I was at this magical show , a few years later they played again at Davies Symphony Hall in the City, Steve Morse opened for them (acoustic only) and then joined them for the finale' . In all my 60 years as a musician, those performances are the pinnacle of excellence and mastery .

Listening to this in '91 got me to start learning guitar. I saw Meola and John but never had the chance to see Paco. I always wake up realizing i was dreaming while listening to this. Unbelievable masters of the guitar😍

Exceptional! I wore out this cassette as a youth just getting into jazz, and was lucky enough to see Di Meola play in a small music store about 6 feet in front of me a few years after this came out.

Sólo los había escuchado por disco. Hasta ahora enero del 2018, tuve el privilegio de oírlos y visto sus escalas, solamente podía hacer la escala cromática descendente, hasta ahora estoy ensayando las subidas de Paco y Al Di Meola. I was at that concert. It was the night after they recorded their legendary "Friday Night in San Francisco" album. It is my favorite concert of all the great concerts I've attended over the past fifty years. And I understand that material from that Saturday night concert is supposed to be released on a "Saturday Night in San Francisco" album one of these days.

I’m pretty sure they “collage” the tracks. If you pay attention, first minutes are the album’s ones, you even got the scream of someone in the audience, something in the middle. The “leftover” is from the night before.

Then maybe you should listen to Mexican music. In this case, we have an USA American guitarist, a Spanish one and an Italian one. Basically, a mix of varied Neo Roman Empire culture (Latin, not Latino, a bit like the difference between Catholic and protestant, English and American), with an ex British colony. There is no Mexico, Aztec, mestizo or South American culture here. The closest we get to that is the American dude.

Saw these guys at the Bushnell Theater in Hartford, CT in 1983. Steve Morse of Dixie Dregs fame opened up - and he was the best part of the show. Sorry, but it's true.
