he's not confused, he is today and always has sung about love. God is love! His only struggle is for folks like you to understand that. The Reverend Al Green doesn't have a problem. Unlike so many of the singers of his era, the Reverend is still around and has maintained his faith and prospered by spreading and the word of God and singing about LOVE.

I was not surprised when Al made the transition to gospel cause it seemed inevitable. For so long he would sing song's live and end up taking you to church. I have always been a big fan of Al's. As a young child my parent's would play Al in the car and around the house. Al would have you caught up when he would take you to church cause you knew he was serious and you could feel and see his passion for the Lord. Look up his performance on soul train when he did Jesus is waiting. You won't be disappointed 🙏
Al Was 25 Here...And I Was 15 - When I Fell In Love With This Man On A Album Cover My Eldest Sister Had Lying On The Floor. I Picked The Album Up, Looked At His Face, Smile And Sex Appeal...And Fell In Love On Site. Didn't Know Anything About This Man, Maybe Heard His Music Some Times Or Another. But, It Was Just So Strange. Who Cares...I Still Love Him -Strongly Forevermore And A Day!!! 🙂😍😘💚
The POWER of LOVE between humans... gift from a higher plane...the POWER who is the originator of true pure LOVE. He was so young in this part of his evolution that the sexual energy is all mixed in and out front in his delivery. That's how he broke through on the world stage but the spiritual foundation is evident and he is still here to this day. Love Rev. Al.
I think you're right on both. Audiences back then were a lot more subdued and respectful altogether. Also back then, studio audiences were told to keep quiet so that performances could be recorded properly for a broadcast. Then again, when the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan, that was definitely one audience allowed to lose their minds! Al Green was and is a singer who clearly wants everyone to join in the fun he has on stage. One of the greatest voices EVER!!!

It was a special time. We EVEN danced together. Yup!! We men actually held women in our arms and danced (slow dragged) to this type of music. There was a LOT of this type of talent. ( of course Al Green was on another plain 😎) -Duke 🇺🇸🇿🇦
As a young girl, Al Green taught me what love should sound like. What it should...feel...like. Because if you didn't feel love in your bones the same way you felt his words or his voice, then it probably wasn't love. Ruined my life. 🤣
I'm still here 11/25/19 because Al Green's music is timeless and monumental . Not to mention he was so sexy , handsome and out of this world talented , Lawd a mercy that man and his music has me straight twisted .

Between secular or gospel music, he started out singing this with intent of love between a man and woman, by the middle of it he had changed it to a gospel version! Yes God is love, and yes Al is confused, anytime you start out ANY song singing it one way and end up in the church at the end of it , its a prob!
