Lawd a mercy it's 2022 and I'm still here the incomparable , legendary , icon Al Green , the greatest soul singer of all time 💯 ! Lawd he's so sexy and talented beyond measure . Al's voice was blessed by God himself 🙏🏾💯❤️ . I have loved this man for over 4 decades and I thank God for him and his voice 🙏🏾 ! Who's with me ?
Al got soul!! He just grooves when he performs and then takes you to church at the same time. He does not just sing, but he sang and mesmerizes you along the way.
people call james brown the godfather of soul and dont get me wrong i absolutely love james he is one of my all time favorite artists. but i think Al green is the true godfather of soul. just look at how soulful this performance is. Al singing from the heart. I love james brown but he should have been called godfather of funk because i believe the reverend Al is the king of soul
You are wrong Cameron .. even tho i very much understand where you are coming from. But lets not compare Brown and Green at all .. because there is no point. Both will live forever. In that historical performance the band was so exceptional that they made al Green want to be James Brown .. but he knew he can't, should not and he does not have to .. so he gave the audience all of Green .. and i cry.
Al Green is tha man the legend the myth but JB is the Soul bruthah numbah 1, THE hawdest woyking man in show biznes JAAYMES BROWYN. The funkiest funk machine doin it to our eahdrums for ovah 50 years. Funkdefied funk y’all
@Kairi Ali When ppl ask me who has THE greatest voice in the history of R&B, I always say Al Green or Marvin Gaye (personally I like Al's voice just a tad bit more). The depth of soul in both their voices is incomparable, IMO. Whether it's R&B with Al or Marvin as individuals, or Led Zeppelin's soul/blues as a rock band, whenever I need a GOOD dose of soul in my diet, I just need to listen to one of those three, and I'm good!
This man's soul sings through him. You can literally see the transformation take place from man to soul. Al Green is spirit in the flesh. A beautiful, inspirational being with a voice made of heaven's gold.
Oh girl how I agree with you ! Iwas 3 when he did this but I just love me some Al Green, he was the total package, the talent, charisma, sexy to the tenth power and so down to earth and relatable. He's been my fav,. artist for 40 years .
In 1973 i have 8 years. When i see this now it's just amazing. This singer was perfect. I love his voice, his laugh and his feeling. Our God blessed him really.
When I was growing up, it was not uncommon for artists like Al Green to play in our little clubs, and “holes in the wall”, as my mom called them. He came to Bowdon, GA once but I was too young to go see him. Artists were more humble during that time. They would play at colleges, also. Al Green was so smooth. I remember staying up for hours to hear his rotation on the local radio station. I still say that we had the best music.💜
I listen to this over and over. I miss my children's father you was a great husband and father. I HEAVILY APPRECIATE!!! YOU TIL' this day and you died in 2004. The power of true love never dies. It's the same love i have for our children. I honestly joy being submissive to you. DAAAANNG u was great to me.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 "I just want to live again" i need someone to mend my broken heart. There's not many Godly independent old fashion men in my age so.... I'm not fornicating all the years... "Being with you i can't explain myself why i feel the way i do" "Heaven's know I'm still in love with you"
Before I look at the other comments I want to say straight away that Al Green is mesmerising. I was busy having a family in the 70s and have only just really heard him. Magic times ahead for me. Amazing voice and he is so sensual and expressive. Thankyou Al Green.
Willow Howlet ... I was 4yrs old when this video was released , both my parents loved his music it was a staple in our home . I've been a fan for 40 + yrs. He was everything you said he is and so much more, I'm now 49 and he's my favorite artist of all time , his voice was blessed from the heavens , although he only did secular music for short time it was sheer perfection and he could move your heart and soul . His gospel music is unlike no other , it's heavenly ! He was so handsome and talented I listen to his music everyday sometimes on vinyl ! Miracles and Blessings!
Al put the "soul" into romantic music. What other Black man do you know who can take a pop classic hit from none other than The timeless Carpenters "We've Only Just Begun" and fully embrace & embody the song, putting his own stamp on it with so much soul into the song that you almost forget that it originally was a straightlaced classic pop tune before he slapped some serious Memphis southern soul onto it. Only Al Green could do that. Only Al Green, in America's post Jim Crow segregation period, would have the musical bonafides and the status to dare touch such a pop classic without an outcry from popular society in the early 70's. People tend to forget that Al in his prime was the #1 male artist in the world during his run of BillBoard Number 1 hits (beginning with "Let's Stay Together") and album after album on the American BillBoard Top Ten list. The man was breaking both Elvis and the Beatles musical records He wasn't just popular from within the Black community; he was, at one point, the most sought after recording artist in the "world". Period. Sometimes we forget what a musical trailblazer he was; of course mainly because most of the time we just connect him to our personal life experience. At least I know that I did back in the 70's when he was blazing the music world. I thought he was just like any one of my many other cousins from back home in the farmland South, who just happen to sing magnificiently, which was his golden ticket to the stars. Yet, I can't think of one other Soul Balladeer who did what Al did in his day with the numerous Pop and Soul #1 One & Top 10 hit love songs not being affiliated with Motown or coming from a recognized popular singing group as Smokey Robinson did when he left the Miracles. Even Smokey wasn't breaking the music industry records globally back in that time as a solo artist as did Al Green. Al Green stood alone amongst American artists (Pop/Rock or Soul) in this regard, in the early 70's. He is a true living legend.
Ooooo, beloved brother-King Rev Al Green. He could make his voice cry & his guitar wail! Frfr, he could sing the alphabet & make me swoon. I stan! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
I was only 3yrs old when AL GREEN was performing this particular set, but I can only assume that there was lots of women under garments thrown. Lol ! Still here in August 2019 because I LOVE AL GREEN & THE GREAT MUSIC AND ARTIST FROM THE OLD SKOOL. Sooo who's with me ?
BONNIE ... Yes , anything he sings from Willie Nelson to The Bee Gees is sheer perfection . I could listen to him and look at him all day every day ! Al Green is a Legend !
I obviously never saw Al perform, accept for watching all these old achives on video. It looks and sounds like his improvisation / natural movement and emotional feeling/connection was so intense when he performed live, it really invigorated the audience which left them in a state of complete ecstacy....😎
You can literally see the band and Al feeding off of each other on this chart. It is incredible to see, such energy. There was no stopping them and they hard cut it for the credits. What a shame the uncut tape isn’t available.
Yes,He is the One and Only Al Green.. I Love you,I pray that our Heavenly Father, keep you hide you under his wings, in the name of Jesus Christ our Saviour and Lord,Amen
My favorite male singers are Marvin Gaye and this man. Can you imagine singers being able to perform today with no auto tune and singing a song realizing that the song is telling a story and not go out there repeating 4-6 lyrics sounding like a cheerleaders.
👍Awesome! Talented. 😍I know he had to be still in his 20s...late 20s...and had that voice...still has it! Playa playa hot grits Al!!! (He was soaking wet, why would he wear that hot turtleneck on that hit stage!!! 🤣)
all of them"!!!, was made in God's time wasn't they"!!🤨,they're all spectacular",each and every one"!!,is in a class by themselves"!!,now we have Michael the king of POP"!!, Little Richard"invented rock and roll"!!!,as I stated earlier the list goes on",our beautiful black people",God knew what he was doing didn't he😁", yeahh he makes no mistakes"!!!✌️.
Chesapeake8 - 👍True, they’ll probably be too old to play Al, but I was thinking about them possibly playing other characters from Al’s life in the movie.
I Guess They Didn’t Use Fans...Back When On Stage -Eh. All That Sweating And TurtleNecks, Etc. Is It Winter Time? That Gold Bracelet Must Be Quite Special To Him -Eh?
one of the viewers made a comment, that she believed that Al Green was the Godfather of Soul", for her"🤨"instead of James Brown",I must say this not to take anything away from Al Green, that's my guy",but he's only one of the male soul singers(continuing on>
I would say Sam Cooke",then Al Green",where does Otis Redding fit in"?🤔",where should we place Marvin Gaye"!!🤨,Stevie Wonder"?,David Ruffin"?🤔"Eddie Kendricks🤨",Curtis Mayfield"!!,stepping to the Young Generation",Maxwell"🤔"Steve Arrington",? Gerald Levert"?,Kem", Frankie Beverly"!!!🤨,you see the list goes on"Smokey Robinson", all these brotha's with God given Talent",but of course James Brown",no question about it the hardest working man in Show Business"!!, was Crown The Godfather"!!!🤨, which he came along way before a lot of them",and of course some of them came along at the same time"(continuing on>
