I was at the recording for this episode. When the guv is behind the bar, you can see a black disk with a handle on it, attached to the wall. This was part of a mechanism for getting free crisps to Lesley and the big bloke. It didn't make the edit for the broadcast, but the idea got reused in series 2. Love this show. The set design and detail always impressed me, feels very atmospheric

The Gunpowder ale barrels are still fermenting so are about to explode, destroying the pub…Analogous to the gunpowder-filled barrels under Parliament, in the original gunpowder plot (1605) which Guy Fawkes Night commemorates in the UK. They were similarly discovered before they exploded…It's a plot simile.
