I have seen him like ten times over the last 15 years or so, and every show is great. My favorite part is that he changes his concert style every couple of years, so like when I first saw him he was touring with Peter White and a guest saxophonist, the next time I saw him he was with a full band, the next time it was just he and Dave Nachmanoff and Dave played all the saxophone solos on his acoustic guitar which worked surprisingly well, then he did some shows with an orchestra though I did sadly miss those, haha. His current band the Empty Pockets have really grown on me since the first time I saw him tour with them, too. Probably are a lot more comfortable doing his songs now after dozens of shows.

I was twelve in 1978, seventh grade, my family moved to the next state. Tough time for a kid to move, insecure, new town, all old friends left behind. I would listen to the radio at night and the songs of '78 would make me think of my friends back in junior high in Nebraska.

Al is touring again with this awesome band - Empty Pockets. I saw them in Fort Wayne, IN in May, 2023. Empty Pockets did the first set with their music and were an excellent back up band for Al. Josh Solomon is a superb guitarist and did the solos perfectly - both acoustic and electric guitar. The keyboard player has a very pleasing voice. Check out their music. The sax player is not part of the Empty Pockets band, but apparently brought in for Al. He also plays flute on songs that Al had violin in the original recordings. It was an awesome concert! They did most of Al’s best songs. 6:06

Just saw them in Mt. Vernon, WA. I agree about The Empty Pockets. Great bunch and they have fun! The sax player had left suddenly a couple of gigs before, and they recruited a replacement on short notice (I don't remember his name). He nailed the flute and sax parts, especially on Year of The Cats. He's now on for the rest of the tour.

As a student at London University in the 60s I used to see Al frequently at Les Cousins in Greek Street Soho where he was the resident musician. I was later surprised when he turned up at my house to buy by flatmate's TR6 the main consideration being whether he could fit his guitar in the boot! Bedsitter Images was the backdrop to my life at that time. With an instantly recognisable voice Al has been a vital part of those of my age and, as the first person in the world to hear The Sounds Of Silence being played, he has a place in music history.

Ahhhh, the fall of 1978! Remember it well. This brand new song playing in my like new 1969 Chrysler Town and Country station wagon. Just got out of Air force that September of 1978. A much better greater and different country, different people, different era, different time, different styles, different values, different music, different every thing. A time never to return again. Glad i lived it. Al Stewart still has it, and I still have the original 1976 first issue YEAR OF THE CAT album I bought at ODESSEY records for $1.99! At 55¢ a gallon gasoline then I could of bought almost 4 gallons of gas for my gas guzzling hog land yatch tank wagon.😮🤔😉😏😲😬😁😄😅😂🤣😭
