Mark Herdon was that bad boy rock image that helped Alabama be where they went in the 80's. You have to give not just the three credit but Mark credit also..
Very true! And they say he was just one of the boys in the band. I think he made the band alot of the times. He might not have sang but he was part of the band.
@@toddgraham6006 ...... Randy Owen is a complete ass. Especially when he came out and said Mark was never an actual member of Alabama, but was just a hired employee. F**k you, Randy Owen. Mark Herndon was as much a member of Alabama as any of the other three were. And they screwed him.
Thank everyone for loving them. Letting them do what they love for a living. My daddy is Teddy, and Jeff and Randy are my cousins. They are still out touring and a new CD coming out in September!!! Love to everyone and God Bless
That is cool Reba Randy's. Sister married my Dad's brother Verlon i miss him so much along with Vance. Rachel is also my Aunt she married my mom's brother small world
ALABAMA BAND: MOUNTAIN MUSIC TOUR 1982: In 1982 on the Mountain Music tour I met drummer Mark Herndon during a break of the band playing softball 🥎 against the local radio station DJ’s. I was a beginning drummer and asked him how to play the fast part on Mountain Music. He showed me with his hands on his legs explaining it was a paradiddle-diddle between the kick and snare 🥁. He said to learn it slowly listening to Ride the Train from the Feels So Right album. I’ll never forget how kind he was to a young drummer and a total stranger! I’ll always love the Alabama band!
To the real fans....I will and have always said....are the BEST FANS EVER!!!!! Teddy is my daddy, RO is my 2nd cousin, and JC is my 5th.....God Bless you ALL!!!!
These three are true examples of the American dream and never forgot they are really just farm boys from Fort Payne. They always seem so genuine and real
Actually saw them once in concert. But I used to subscribe to Music City News magazine. And with that subscription you were allowed tickets 🎟 to the Awards Show in Nashville during Fan Fair. I was lucky enough to see them every year during Fan Fair. Now it's called CMT FESTIVAL. Still love Alabama. Just came back from vacation my destination was Fort Payne. Went to the ALABAMA MUSEUM and found and drove by Randy Owen's home and took pictures. FEELS SO RIGHT. Thanks for the memories.
When I was in high school in the late 1980s, I had to do a semester project on a famous musician. I chose Alabama. We each had to write to the person or group we were focusing on. I'm the only one who got an answer. Jeff answered my research questions and asked for a copy of my final paper. He later wrote and complimented me on my writing skills.
I don't understand why they say Mark Herndon is not a member of Alabama, on the album "41 number one hits for the record" Randy Owen state in 1979 they rolled into Florence South Carolina for a week long engagement at the Thunderbird where they met a person named Mark Herndon who was just right for the ACT and became the new drummer and the fourth member of the band.
These guys will always be my brothers! They are the same guys that I first met back in 1977 when I was a DJ at Big Yak radio. We always knew they would hit it big but we never imagined what they have done over the past 40 years. I consider knowing these guys before they hit big the highlight of my 20 year career in broadcasting. I treasure those days and those memories.
Great Band! I am from North Alabama and I have several of their albums. Never went to any of their concerts because they were always sold out before I could get tickets. Still enjoy their music! "My Home's In Alabama" is one of my favorite songs; even though I have live in Georgia longer. When I hear the song, it makes me miss friends and especially extended family in Alabama. "...my home's in Alabama, no matter where I lay my head. My home's in Alabama, Southern born and Southern bred.."
Like Randy says, they have worked their tails off and it shows! They have soo many hit songs and they are truly a musical inspiration to many many artists! Growing up when I was in high school, I never was an Alabama fan. But thru the years, I have learned to appreciate their music!!
I was there, I watched these guys a whole lot back then, but I never talked to them much, I was a party animal! But I'm sure they had a huge impact on my life and my music even though I never started taking my music serious until later in life! God bless Alabama!
I live in Canada and started listening to Alabama when I came to Fort Payne for an instructional class with Derrell Martin. I am sure all of the band members know who Derrell is. I have been listening ever since. I always make a stop at the museum when I am in town. My favorite song is Angels Among Us. Derrell's son sang in the choir in that song.
Nothing better than these guys. I have seen them in concert in greensboro n.c. and at the alabama theater in myrtle beach......they always put on a great show. Sal G......let the haters hate.....don't let it ruin ya day.....your Dad and the others are awesome.....always have been.....always will be. People are so quick to judge when they don't have a clue. Way to stick up for your dad though girl! Luv them "bama" boys!!!
Just like there song Down Home..real and unchanged by their enormous success. Never be another country band as prolific and successful and it all started with a dream and hard work!
Alabama is probably my all-time favorite country music act. I first discovered them on an 8-track tape, when I was 8 or so, from my mom's collection. Ride The Train was the song I most remember from this tape. Then my mom bought the Mountain Music album on cassette and I became a fan. But I got a little older and 80's pop, hard rock and metal dominated my musical tastes. Then in late '91 I think, Garth Brooks released Roping the Wind. I rediscovered country music and Alabama in the process.
Back around 1987 I saw Alabama in Evansville Indiana at the now torn down Roberts Stadium, they did an improptu autograph signing by the stadium entrance. Teddy and Mark sat at a table and Randy and Jeff walked down the line talking to people and letting them take pictures with them turned around.lol I remember thinking how tired Randy looked, I said to him, I bet you guys get tired of these signings and all he said was "We love the fans".seemed like great guys to me, always loved their music.
Yes he established himself on the first video I ever seen of the doing “the closer you get” . There was a chemistry with him. He was much more than a hired gun to me. I understand the business side too. Still think with their amazing success he deserved a tiny piece of the pie.
My daddy shot pool with them in Georgetown many many moons ago before i was born and i think its the coolest story... i love their music... i knew all the words when i was a kid.
Yeah I too love Alabama. Great people. Men with style. I can only hope to be as good as they are one day. Don't you listen to these people who put em down. Their best days are probably waking up sober. Bless you all Sal. My whole family loves this band Alabama. Snowman.
This is the best country band ever. Seen them numerous times live and I am sad Mark is not with them now but I know they are all good fiends and that is how I know all the guys are. Randy, Teddy and Jeff are great guys and I love every one of them. I wish Mark the best and I know he is content with his life and you couldn't ask for anything better. Sal G, I applaud you for your love for your Dad. He is an awesome person. Kudos to you girl. I've been a fan of Alabama since 1978.
Sal G, good for you girl. I don't know why people do stupid things. I'm a real and true fan and love every one of these guys and have met them all in person. Their legacy in country music is rooted there and they changed the face of it and it's the best thing that could have happened.
and progress has ruined the beach... even since i was a kid... i use to go to the pavilion when i was a kid... hope they leave the Bowery alone.... great place... so much fun... their house band was cool.
I love Alabama without the original drummer you're just a tribute band sorry just like Kiss without ace or George Thorogood without Jeff Simon the drummer
You know I have had to deal with ignorant people like you since 2002.....THEY ALL made their choices...Mark is playing and had been with Leah Seawright and chose to stay with her...They all love and respect each other and are still friends...If they can let it go....and it's really not any of your business....WHY CAN'T YOU???? Do you know the devastation all the families go through reading the crap like you put up?? Of course not..you don't care.....sick
If you're gonna show up here and claim to be family you're going to get the shit that goes with it. Could've just said you were a fan and let it go at that. Nobody does you an apology for anything sister except for my sister who enjoyed a little roll in the bay with your daddy a few years back.
they are so awesome... people are awful... they dont know anything but something they may have heard on tv... ridiculous. some of the last true musicians and real country music
