The only reason anyone even LOOKS at the band is the Stingettes. I was a majorette in college and when we would get too low or too wild our band director would give our sponsor the "eye" and she would walk over after the song was over and give us the signal to tone it down a bit. I personally didn't see anything wrong with the count but I do see that how Dr. O handled it was extremely unprofessional. #TeamJanae
I have watched this 5 times. I STILL don’t see anything that would warrant Janae being humiliated the way she was. They all look like regular stands to me.
For those who need a back story on the Janae-Gate: Even tho girls have been bucking for some games (whether Janae threw a count or it was singles...ahem Milagro lol) for some reason in this game the director wasn't having it. Go to 0:25, this count started it, I believe. Look at the BD change shift his position and looked touched and bothered at 0:27-0:30. You can't see him but at around 0:35 he stood up, stepped on top of the steps in front of him and was glaring at Janae. You can see him at 0:54 just waitin to pounce on a captain MID-GAME!! What probably set him off enough to physically come down those steps was the count she threw at 1:08. At around 1:23 was when she was probably told to stop and don't throw anymore counts for this song (if you were there and heard him by all means correct me). I'm just irked at how there's always something that takes focus off the girls.

I saw someone take her attention, then everyone else's smh, but if you look closely her teamate to her right said don't worry about him I thought that was the sweetest thing because she was definitely on the verge of crying, her breathing, became more rapid and uneasy! Keep your head up baby girl!

God bless your heart Janae , it must be difficult to choose whether to obey a superior or let your dancing spirit to take over cause you was serving all game long . I was there in person and he didn’t have to come in front of you like that . THEY HAVE BEEN THROWING THESE EXACT COUNTS FOR YEARS .! but I guess this proves that we never what goes on behind the scenes. They have been bucking low in previous years as well. Sure did! I said it on another post...Asia ate that buck up early on in ‘14 to Sho Nuff. He ruined that MCC bc of that TV show. All those girls dancing bc he wouldn’t let them have cuts! Wouldn’t let them buck! Cutting the damn songs off! He’s known to eff up a MCC. Let’s not forget ‘16 as well.
Bama State Trumpet09 She really wanted to have her moment but so wouldn’t let her. Asia beef had a completely satisfying MCC. Her second yr MCC was cut short due to weather. MCC use to be a exciting time, now I just get nerves when it comes around.
I’m lightweight upset with Courtney for not taking up for Janae. She’s in charge of the girls and Courtney should have stood her ground and been mature about it to handle this in house, not in public.
The band director is in charge of the stingettes too! He just have a director over them! Kind of like a business! You have your CEO, regional managers, store manager, supervisors, and leads! So he technically has the final say so! Knowing her she probably did take up for her but the band director has higher power than her
I can't believe he would do her like that publicly. That count wasn't even that bad. That captain is naturally sexy and exotic looking so whatever count she throws is going to captivate the audience. The girl got it and he just needs to let her lead her team. He needs to focus on making sure his band sound good and leave the dancing to them. What's the point of even having a sponsor if he gets to make decisions like that? The dancers should go on strike until he's out of there.
This was my favorite stand moment of the season and they were EATING FOR LIFE!! I want to know what she was going to throw next cause this was one for the books!!
Watching this back and seeing whats happening I am disgusted. He really made her stop dancing mid song and pulled her. Dr. O in no way was that professional or what I would consider characteristics of a collegiate band! TUH.
What I don't understand is that they been have been doing this count for YEARSSSSS and all season long! Why say something now and why shame her out in front of a crowd. That can ruin someone tremendously. I wish her mom was there, that would've went a whole nother way.
Those are some beautiful talented girls. It makes me sad to think that a grown man would do that. My dad is deceased but I know for sure he never would have allowed that...he should be ashamed of himself. It seems to be that Dr. O tries to switch it up last minute depending on the venue. If they’re performing in front of a “conservative” crowd, he condemns bucking. That’s the only thing that makes sense because they’ve bucked before and nothing has ever happened.

Perhaps ASU's BAND DIRECTOR, Dr. Oliver, should spend more time with the instruments and their lack of clean musical execution. Maybe he should spend more time focusing on better musical arrangements and these lack luster field drills. Maybe...just maybe...ASU's BAND DIRECTOR should minimize waving at people while walking in front of the band and talking on his cell phone (as if people are there to see him) and focus on being a better leader. Let's be clear, most folk are generally here to see THE STINGETTES. These young ladies work hard , are talented, their dance moves are mature, age appropriate and pretty dynamic. If anything, ASU's BAND DIRECTOR should be celebrated the uniqueness of the squad, instead of EGO trippin. And as for COURTNEY....well, do better ma'am...do better smh.
Some of the bucking stands she trowed JSU actually use them. When I saw I thought she was mocking them like come and try us now girls. I think he mad all the attention on them girls and not the whole band. Vs building the girls up using it as tools to recruit come to our school. Also everyone of these girls are GROWN 18 and OVER.
