@Justice Murray-Young if you watch the animated one, you can see genie is doing 21th century magic stuff. From what i heard the genie is a normal guy from the future. he's cursed, sended back to the past and became a genie
Only there’s clearly a stunt/dance double for most of it since they do a good job of hiding his face and his stature and hair change throughout the clip
This live action was terrific and full of energy and amazing colors. I love how Disney didn’t have Jasmine wear her iconic teal-colored dress the entire time. She looks stunning in it here, but the pink and yellow outfits she wore throughout the film were gorgeous as well. The costume design was remarkable ❤
Did you notice how Beautiful all the dancers costumes were in Aladdin but they made Aladdin and Jasmines’ costumes stand out compared to beauty and the beast giving background characters ugly outfits
Hi everyone! I study Kathak (Indian classical dance). The reason why people potentially perceive this choreography as Indian is possibly due to some cultural markers. They frequently use the Anjali Mudra (Namaste pose) throughout the choreography. Moreover, they also greet each other with an Adab pose (e.g. 0:50) which is an Indian muslim greeting. The belly dancing (raqs sharqi) on the other hand is mostly associated with Arab/Middle Eastern culture. Apart from this, the choreography is mostly culturally ambiguous and therefore Orientalist (i.e. western construct of the East).
seeing this movie made me appreciate their culture a lot more it’s absolutely beautiful. The music, the dancing the dressing style it’s all so fascinating!
They got our culture wrong 😑 this whole movie is somewhat stereotypical. This is what some westeners think our culture is like. I mean they got some of it right, but some parts are just not right. Like this dance for an example, it’s not arab although they have a bit of belly dancing, it doesn’t pass as arab
Hiring actors that really suits the roles and not because they're black or what for the sake of diversity. That's how this is a good live-action movie.
No one is saying it's purely Indian, but it has got some Indian dance steps and music (solo flute). This looks really odd because it's supposed to be based in middle East.
shwetha rajanath a lot of the comments were stating that it’s completely Indian dancing! I wasn’t shocked because Aladdin was based off Indian and Middle Eastern culture. Elements were taken from both of them.
@@kritikabhasin6753 they meant fusion I guess, it's a communication problem. This is inaccurate on so many levels though. Fiction should have some limits to imagination, especially when it involves places and cultures.
1:38, you can see Aladdin’s mistake there, jasmine came in to start dancing but Aladdin passed her instead and danced on his own, thought it was a neat detail.
The dance is so good, the song, and I love it how Mena's acting is very underrated. It's like, hes being controlled by the Genie. And Mena's dance is so good, I'm shocked by it. It's logically so good! ♾️/10 just for this scene✨
Exactly!, people are over her signifying what it is arguing in the comments. I'Ts JuSt a DaNce ThaT Disney came up with to make the movie more entertaining! I know people want to dig deep and try to figure out what type of dance this is, but really guys come on
This is my take. Agrabah was supposed to have its own culture that mixed Asian and Middle Eastern cultures into one. So it has elements of both Indian and Arabic dance choreography in the dance as well. You've also got to remember that you have actors in this who are of Egyptian, Arabic, Iranian, Tusinian and Indian descent. They're multicultural, therefore it's best to reflect that in the film as well.
Gotta say Naomi Scott looks absolutely gorgeous as Jasmine. The costumes she wore are beautiful. The one thing in animation was they were simple whereas now with 3D animation you can put in little details but in live action they are pure works of art!!! Love the costumes so much for all the characters.
yes, it is ambiguous. but misinformation is spread and so many people believe that these images are what Muslims or Arabs are all about. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ddCJPtcxEwo.html this is a really good short video about orientalism. please view it if you want to have a better understanding and be respectful of all people.
i love how mena acts so great like the genie was really moving his hands and him. And I like mena's expression when jasmine looks at him when he dances weirdly.
Literally just noticed that the music playing while they’re dancing is kinda a mixed mashup of Speechless and the deleted song Dessert Moon that didn’t make it into the movie that’s kinda cool 😁❤️
For everyone here, saying this dancing is Indian, can you point what style/region of "Indian" this is from bc I promise you, this is not indian and its some made up Western thing.
@@janekof to be blunt I have middle eastern family and Indian friends. I also have friends from different cultures including northern Africa and Pacific islands. I also love hip hop. While the dance is not traditional of one culture there are moves that mimic certain cultures and hip hop. I also dance. Btw white people aren't just American they live all over the world and have traditional culture dances
@@kpnentertaiment3087 Because of Abbasid caliphate has influenced from North Africa to Pakistan. I am no wonder about that. Then, ottoman, safavid, and Mughal adopted it.
Years ago, Iraq was considered to be from South Asia, so they were influenced by India and the culture of Andalusia. In one of the stories of the Thousand and One Nights, the Princess of India is the same Princess of Baghdad. Today, Iraq is considered an Arab Middle Eastern, so we can consider that Jasmine is a brown (Arab, Indian) princess.
i LOVE THIS!!! I feel terrible I didnt give a chance becauce the critics said '' ITS NOT AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL'' - I feel sickened I believed them - this film is a beautiful escape from reality and is done with truly harmonious music (if you not what I mean - not a trace of Shepheard tone) - it was beautiful and romatic and more people should have seen it with the people they loved! Why the Critics pan it? The cinema is SO EXPENSIVE - I would have loved this moment in the cinema with my Mum, My Apologies to you - Guy Ritchie - it is a beautiful mesmerising film, in the best way that I cant forget - another beautiful possible world X
Oh gosh the dancer, he's so good. Dancing normally is hard enough but to make it intentionally erratic and puppet like takes serious skills, mad props to him
I don't think anyone realizes that although Mena is a fantastic dancer, his acting skills are amazingly good too. Like he went from looking apprehensive, to embarrassed to looking over to Genie and giving him a yeah, now I'm enjoying myself and tusting you kinda glance. 0:47 He's so underrated. He needs more roles.
I came here to see the cool dancing and everyone is just fighting over what the dance is... Why can’t we just appreciate it for how cool it is instead of arguing... The world makes me sad..
@@AyanAli-py7ci lmao looks like we have some racist over here, everyone know how wonderful and magical the arabic culture is, so just admit that you hate arabs for no reason lol and get yourself some education you look like a fool
If there was an Oscar for best dancing choreography/routine/performance, this would easily be the winner. For those of you who don't know it was assistant choreographer and dance double Nicky Andersen who performed this awesome ass solo.
The story is actually between 7-8 century and that time Indians were trading with world and especially Arab and that's why it has a fusion of Indian and Arabic dance
For people complaining about this looking Indian more than Arabic...... South Asia has been influenced by Persian culture since history. Of course it looks similar. But as a South Asian, I can tell that the music is Arabic not Indian. And only like half of the dancing steps/methods in this scene are kind of similar to Indian culture.
@@Misty_Tomboy_Mermaid You expect them to wear bra like tops like in animations? 🤣 And then it's a production from western society, you can't expect them to go all out historically accurate stuffs. 😂 Indian dresses aren't completely like that design either. The heavy jewels and heavy materials and fabric is similar to South Asian (as I said Persian culture has influenced South Asian culture since history dresses fall under culture category too) but design is modern-ish with little bit of traditional mixed.
@@swostikasharma9647 Yeah why don't you look how our women's used to dress up in ancient times then you will get the answer. But I agree with you on some points but still these dresses seems indian to me.
@@Misty_Tomboy_Mermaid Read my name and Google search where you can find people with my surname/last name huh? And I live in a village not in city. I know more about traditional and ancient dresses than you realise.
@@swostikasharma9647 The original story of 'Aladdin' was a story told by people from middle east, and the story is in China. and is a chinese boy not arab. You know it's White people who Rewrote the story to be an Arab disney thing right?
To all who are saying it's indian: No it's not. It's an arab dance, bellydance is not just in india also north africa and middle east, and whole south asia. Some north indian dances are maybe similar to arab persian or pakistani dances but, habibi it's similar so it doesn't mean this dance it automatic indian. And there were arab instruments
