In my opinion this movie does look better than the Return of Jafar. It also looks better than most of the Animated Series episodes that I have seen. I recommend The Great Mouse Detectie for the next movie to watch.
The reason that Robin Williams was not in Return of Jafar is because Disney used his voice for merchandizing against his permission and it took years for them to gain his trust back for King of thieves.
This movie and Cinderella 3 A Twist in Time are my favorite of the direct to dvd sequels. Cinderella 3 is even my favorite version of Disney's character of Cinderella.
I definitely like this one the most out of anything Aladdin that exists, the story is really nice and compelling, its more complex, its a lot of fun, super entertaining, Saluk is a cool and intimidating villain, the action is great, there is so much imagination in it, its just a great time and very pleasing to watch :)
The way I see the Genie works is this: the adults enjoy and recognize the references and impressions, while the kids enjoy the transformations and the voice changes.
Aww, you missed one of the best jokes in the movie at 7:01! An interesting point about your initial assumption that Cassim would turn out to be Aladdin's brother: the original idea for this sequel featured Mozenrath, one of the major recurring antagonists from the TV series, and would have revealed him to be... Aladdin's brother.
See the movie actually backs up Cassim's mad skills in the very beginning. Because SOMEHOW that man got ON TOP of the wedding pavilion and then GOT DOWN and all WITHOUT BEING SEEN BY ANYONE and then even INTO the pavilion, again WITHOUT BEING SPOTTED!!! I STILL want to know how the frick he did that!
I saw on some forums that lots of people think Saluke didn't die and is still alive, but is completely frozen gold and at the bottom of the ocean and can't move
18:58 I believe the previous film established that free Genies are less powerful than those still bound to a lamp. Even in the first film, he had several lines he couldn't cross even though he was more powerful.
See it’s odd because I see where you’re coming from on Aladdin and Jasmine’s song but I’ve always liked it because while it may be an uncommon way to put it, that’s the point because Aladdin himself is extraordinary and that’s what the song is getting at.
Would you watch any of the Aladdin series proper? If you haven't seen, my hard recs would be most of the Mozenrath episodes (not Black Sand or Vocal Hero), the Sadira episodes, and the Mirage episodes Eye of the Beholder and The Lost Ones. There's also a "Seems Like Old Crimes" Two-parter that deals with how Aladdin and Abu first met. Fun fact: Some series characters cameo as audience members at the (final and successful) wedding.
I didn’t get any of the references when I watched it as a kid but that didn’t matter to me, I still found it hilarious. I actually liked it more than the first movie, (I know, kids are weird).
Speaking as an European 90's kid, even I didn't get the references until I was much older and more exposed to American pop culture. It didn't matter much though, I still enjoyed these movies a lot!
So let’s see if we have this right it’s the third film in the series about a long lost father reuniting with his son to look for a lost treasure. That’s really original I’ve never heard of that idea before what do you two think? Looks over at Indiana Jones and his dad.
Well the animation in Return of Jafar & King of Thieves is the same as the animation for the Aladdin TV series which you should definitely check out It’s So Good 😊 R.I.P. Robin Williams 💖💖
I watched this when it came out and I was the target audience (maybe a couple years younger, tops) and I didn’t get most of those references as a kid! but, it didn’t matter. this one was my sister and I’s favorite of the series and we watched it all the time 😁
I guess this was better than Return of Jafar because it was supposed to be a movie from the start and not a pilot for a TV-series. Straight to TV or not, movies focus more on a structured plot with a satisfying conclusion than pilot episodes which focus more on exposition and setting up the premise of the following show.
I thought this one looked better than the second. Recommended live action forgottens: The Love Bug (1969) Herbie Rides Again (1974) Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo (1977) The Apple Dumpling Gang (1978) Just a few suggestions
You want “forgotten”? How about Treasure of Matecumbe? Candleshoe? One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing? In Search of the Castaways? Island at the Top of the World? (But sorry, Disney only released the TV version of “Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow” on Blu-ray, not the feature version.)
is it wrong i liked marsupilami? heck, i don't think i hated any of the Disney Afternoon cartoons of the early 90's till the end of it's run. even the not-so-great ones like Quack Pack, Bonkers and Mighty Ducks.
