This band has inspired me to become a better musician by learning to play this. After working on this arrangement for 2 months, my keyboard playing is at a new level with improved technique, better rhythmic flow, discovering modal scales for more creative solo ideas, deeper understanding of music theory, etc... Thank you for posting this video!
what I like with Alain Caron is that his left hand never leave the bass neck, he doesn't do big movements.... just what is necessary and he does so good... sorry for my bad English.
I seen these guys perform at the Vancouver Jazz Festival in the summer of '93 or '94. It was amazing! Listening to such incredible musicians outdoors on the downtown streets of Vancouver was an experience I'll never forget. And this song had the crowd buzzing! I would love to see Alain perform live again.
@justmybass His name is Alain Caron. He's a monster both on fretted and fretless 6 string basses and has a signature bass made by George Furlanetto of Fbass.
For those who asked who the Guitar player is on this... His name is Jerry De Villiers Jr. and he just released a live and studio album via I-Tunes and Amazon... The live one features the Great Gerry Etkins on keyboard who plays on the Alain Caron clip above... Look for the KataRecords youtube channel...
Yeah!!!! One of the greatest album ever!!! And Jerry De Villiers Jr. has participated since also to two other excellent albums with the composer and bass player Antoine Fafard : ''Ad Perpetuum'' (also with Gerry Etkins on keyboards) and ''Sphere'' (featuring Gary Husband on drums, lead synth and piano).
Gerry DeVilliers use some expensive Ibanez from the 80's (Maybe the 6 string version of Steve Vai), preamp and amps By Rozon, F/X by Rozon(EQ-Chorus), Peavey cab. old MIDI Kit by Roland in a Fender Bass combo amps.
The hippest bop tune ever composed over one chord! What an awesome form of it these cats are playing over, there's an underlying structure going on under the solos that I just can't figure out...anyone?
My BN6 sounds much different than my BN5, but I like the tone of each for different reasons. I bought my BN6 with the same wood choices as Alain's, and am VERY happy I did. My BN5 sounds more like a smooth Jazz ash & maple fender, which I like as well. I'm glad I didn't have to sell my BN5 to get my BN6 though... I don't know which I'd choose if I could only have one!
