I was really drunk one night at my local The Eliot Arms in Saint Germans, Cornwall and I’m sat at the bar when this man bumps into me. I turn to my side to see it was Alan Ford, though being very drunk at the time I couldn’t remember his name just his face. I said I recognise you from somewhere then I said you were Brick Top in Snatch and continued to call him Brick Top. I bought his drink, had a chat to him and asked for an autograph (behind the bar were postcards with a picture of the pub on it so I got one from the bar) where he wrote “To Nich thanks for the drink, chat and recognition. Wishing you all the best Brick Top AKA Alan Ford”. Still got that autograph some 16yrs later
I'm pissed at myself for losing Robin Askwith's "From an exile in Gozo 1. 1. 90 ". He said that Mick Jagger got unnerved at his resemblence to Brian Jones
I went for lunch with my mum today and when I ordered a coffee the woman in the cafe asked me if I wanted any sugar to which I answered ‘no thank you, I’m sweet enough’ she laughed and asked me if I had been watching snatch. Oh that made my day.
I was fortunate enough to spend an evening with Alan Ford. I got pictures and a video with him. Had drinks and a meal with him and his lovely wife. A waitress asked him if he wanted another wine before going on stage. He said “yes please”. The waitress asked “small or large?” He said… “Large… I’m old, I haven’t got time to fuck about”. Everything he said that night was a perfect quote.. An absolute legend of a man!!!!
'Do you now the word Nemesis?' Surely one of the best scenes in one of the best London gangster movies ever. Truly a great movie and Alan Ford totally owned his character and every scene he was in. Wonderful stuff Alan.
bloody hell im finna to rewatch myself snatch is a one of a kind movie and i swear you will never get anything like this again i mean damn movie was made in 2000 that's before and previous to a lot of Bs that will come later fuccin hell if 2020 saw snatch today holy shit they'd have a literal cow xD
Blame that on social justice warriors. Lucky I lived long enough before millennials that I got to see a ton of good movies in the theater. All you have now is watching old movies streaming. But at least you have that I guess.
I love when he's talking about cutting up the body. The attention to detail when he says "apparently" and "so I hear" like he's just heard about that sort of thing and never actually done it.
The irony: Stephen Joseph Graham, who plays the meek & confused "Tommy" next to Turk, would go on to play many gang bosses himself, including Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire.
Alan Ford is one of my favourite actors, I do hope if Guy Ritchie has a film in the pipeline that he’s involved again. Though I doubt it as they’ve not worked together since Snatch and Alan is now 84 so he’s getting on a bit
“You’re on thin fucking ice my pedigree chums, and I shall be under it when it breaks” I love that he didn’t say “if it breaks” he said “when it breaks” as in they’re fucked no matter what they do. Chills every time.
And the Oscar goes to Alan Ford, if only awards were based on great performances and superb characters instead of politics. That is one of the best characters in any film , the script delivered to perfection.Needs a series centered around Top Brick seen from his view point like the Hunger games franchise. Thinking can get you into a lot of trouble Errol, I shouldn'd do so much of it, now put the kettle on.
Is it Curry to a pisshead...? As in a person from india... Or, is it *Cutty* (Cutty shark scotch) to a pisshead... As in an alcoholic? Because I've read different captions from different DVD's and one said curry and the other said cutty.. Both statements are prevalent within cockney dialect I've ascertained. We'd need to read a copy of the films script to find out.
@@gn7740 Claret? Thats cockney slang referring to blood. As in the color red.. Wrong guy Ritchie film... Jason Stathams character uses the word in the lorry with the traffic warden in lock stock and 2 smoking barrels.
@@lilmike2710 He’s talking about the sight of curry to someone drunk. Here in England curry is a heavenly sight when one is pissed 😂. But also the fact that a drunken fucker isn’t going to question the sight of curry, just like a pig isn’t going to care about it being a human corpse. It’s genius
Bob Hoskins 'The Long Good Friday.' That is one of THE best film performances this WORLD has EVER seen. But Alan Ford is utterly sublime in 'Snatch.' I'm a professional actor too. 25 years experience.
Alan Ford had 4 screen tests. On the final one he forgot his contact lenses, choosing to wear glasses. Guy Ritchie loved the look and gave him the part, stating he would have a special thick-framed pair of glasses made for him
Best Top Dog East End Gangster portrayal ever, so evil, but has that charisma, so you can see how a character such as him, might just be able to exist. One of the best villains ever, I think the fact he looks like some old geezer from your local, makes it that much scarier, You never know who ya fucking with
Interesting to note that Brick Top isn't even the top dog in the film, he's just higher than Turkish, Tommy, Mickey and Vince and his boys. The guys who are upset with Brick Top after Mickey's first fight are higher up than him and had him begging like a pup for forgiveness (comparably speaking)
Superb performance by Allan Ford, sets the acting bar as the villain in a movie. The whole film was filled by quality actors with great roles, if you haven’t seen Snatch then you need to.
“There is a campsite full of pikes who might not think your so fucking funny, not when they are putting out the flames on their children’s backs” absolutely brutal
Get us a cup of tea… such a soothing English concept, yet he manages to project such evil intent. I can only watch him through the gaps in my fingers. I am impressed and appalled simultaneously.
Snatch was my favourite film when I was growing up. I remember renting it from a video store (those were the days). Then I got it on VHS.. played it over and over and over, never got tired of it. I'm sure I must have watched it close to a hundred times back in my youth.. I knew every word in it off by heart. I always thought it was by far the best British movie of it's generation.. in my opinion much better than Lock Stock which seems to be more appreciated and held in higher regard.. for whatever reason Lock Stock never clicked with me in the same way Snatch did. Personally, I much preferred Snatch. Maybe it's just because I grew up with it. But either ways, truly fantastic film. One of the best. A real classic.
“What have you got to tell me that’s so effin’ important?” is incredibly funny when you consider that they are about to be killed at his command if they don’t tell him what he wants to hear 😂😂😅
My third favourite film of all time (and I'm in my late 60's) just behind Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. My absolute favourite is Blazing Saddles. All three films brilliant, in fact perfect. The acting in Lock, Stock and Snatch was simply unbelievably amazing.
In my arrogant opinion that was one of the greatest movies of all time, fantastic directing, acting, music, sound imagination, hilarious scenes, and perfect casting all around. Amazing work. Some real experienced actors, heavy hitters of drama, comedy, action, absolute genius. I love gangster movies. We all dream of being bad asses, wise asses, able to kick ass, and tell people to bugger off. Even if it's not in real life, it's fun to listen to the (reality checks) when the thugs get after you. No matter how tough you are, or think you are; there's always a thug crazier, and more dangerous than you. Great laughs, great fantasy. Glad I'm retired.
I forget about this character Brick Top, after a while then see videos like this and remember he's one of the best characters. My favoirite part is when Errol walks in, sees that there is a dead body, continues to get his guy a cup of tea, does what he was asked to do, steps over the body without looking then leaves. 5:15
Yeah at that moment that’s when even the slower black guys were starting to realise the danger they were in. 7ft Errol being this mysterious old man’s tea boy
Such a good film.. Alan Ford as Brick Top had some memorable lines, delivered expertly.. always made me wonder if a real life Brick Top ever existed???
@@drunkenmaster6434: Brick Top's glasses were Alan Ford's. According to Ford, somehow he wound up reading for it with his glasses ("me lenses", as he called them) on instead of his contacts, which he normally didn't do, but the director liked the look and said to use them during filming. Brick Top's glasses were accidental, not at all part of the script or the character's initial design.
@@MariusRiley Nearly right. He forgot his contact lenses for a screen test so wore his glasses, Guy Richie liked the idea of glasses but sent him to the opticians and picked a frame designed for industrial use that could be used as safety glasses , heavy duty , result was the effect we saw in thye film.
Alan Ford did such a fantastic job, and then to have him say all the actors and actresses MADE THE FILM WHAT IT IS...VERY COOL..I'm impressed by people who are humbol and recognize the contributions of others. THAT to me IS A STAR...Not talented people who let their own b s go to their head. Rip Alan Ford
Alan Ford - total genius. This is one of my favorite films, always makes me smile. Im a Jason Statham fan so when I watched this I found myself waiting for "Bricktop" to say something, anything. Truly awesome !
hey man the dialog, and the absolutle sublime delivery of everything that Alan Ford comes out with in this film is fooking genius he is actually more scarier than Mike Tyson and what you hear is pure Britaina!!!!!!!!!!
