I met him back in the late '80s for grand opening of a bank. He was signing autographs. I asked him to tap me on the head with his captain's hat. He obliged.
We're very happy to know that you're a fan of Gilligan's Island! Thank you so much for sharing your life story. Which episode of the show appealed to you the most?
I was fortunate to have watch "Gilligan's Island" when it was "new" back in 1964🙏🏻. It was a long time ago. I'm going to say it came on Wednesday nights either 7:30pm or 8:00pm And maybe "Lost in Space" right after? I think Different state's ran the shows at different days and times. All I know is, we had great TV shows throughout the 1960's Even the Cartoon show was great! " _The Flintstone, The Jetsons, Top Cat, Huckelberry Hound, Magilla Gorilla, Courageous Cat & Minute Mouse, Q.T. Hush, Mighty Mouse_ etc. Some were shown on Prime time like The Flintstones & Top Cat! When you watch a cartoon with the names Hanna & Barbera, you know it's a great Cartoon 👍🏻
A real secret that the Skipper kept while filming Gilligan's Island was he broke his arm and didn't tell anyone for weeks until shooting was over! He then took time to recover.
Alan Hale Jr. was an accomplished actor. I've been watching episodes of Perry Mason and he has had 2 guest appearances. He guest starred on Hazel. The Wild Wild West as a Secret Service Agent filling in for Ross Martin. He was definitely great on Gilligans Island. R.I.P. ALAN HALE JR.
A.H.Jr was in the Gunfighter as Richard Jackel's brother who throws down on Jimmy Ringo, played by Gregory Peck, also he was in the Indian Fighter with Kirk Douglas as the love interest of Kirk Douglas wife, sounds complicated but Kirk's first wife was a actress, she's the Mother of Michael. He also played Casey Jones in the Adventures of Casey Jones,it was on for a couple of seasons, and he was in Hang em High with Clint Eastwood. He had a pretty good career also a avid golfer.
I love that episode of Hazel. Alan's character just couldn't catch a break, until he met Hazel. It was sad watching him be arrested. I loved him as the skipper.
@@sthompson4049Thanks - I had forgotten about Casey Jones - but I can hear the theme song and see him in my child’s memory smiling as he drove the train in the opening credits…probably blew the train whistle, too!
I love Gilligan's Island, always have, always will. I adopted a dog from a vet clinic I work in. He was found as a stray by a client of the clinic and brought in to be taken care of. He had multiple physical and health issues, but he was such a sweet, loving little thing. Once he was well enough, one of the vets took him home and would always bring him in when he worked. He would look for me and follow me around, so I called him my little buddy. When I adopted him, I named him Gilligan, because of Skipper calling Gilligan "Little Buddy" all the time.
I have such good memories of Gilligan's Island, all the characters were so perfectly matched by the actors. Today's shows rarely hit the high mark all these old shows could.
No, I did not know he was "one of the first Nepo Babies". Because that is a new and derisive term that did not exist back in the day. Calling him such is an insult to the memory of a talented and wonderful man. I nearly gave this thumbs down due to that. We would have called him a member of an Acting Dynasty, which is far more apt. On the plus side, I did not know he baked on set. Now I know where all those coconut cream pies came from, not from MaryAnn but the Skipper.
I enjoyed the fact that the Skipper and Gilligan were basically a modern day Laurel and Hardy, set on a desert island! Not only were the relational dynamics very similar, but Alan Hale Jr.’s technique of looking straight into the camera in moments of exasperation was classic Oliver Hardy- and was a very effective technique for drawing the viewer into the scene. I have learned that because Alan Hale Jr. had an actor father and grew up around entertainment figures, he had actually been on the set of Laurel and Hardy as a boy, and had met these actors. He learned from the masters! I enjoyed Gilligan’s Island very much as a child, and it is timeless- still is entertaining decades later. I had also read that rather that disliking that he was so associated with this role, Alan embraced it, and used his status and his persona as the Skipper for good, taking the time to go and visit sick children who were in the hospital. Nice! I always have respect for people who achieve fame and use it in this way. This was an interesting video.
He loved being known as Skipper. I don't know if that was his favorite role, but he sure embraced it. And, as you said, used that for good. He was truly a remarkable and lovable man.
I must admit I enjoyed the show.....at first. Then, questions began to accumulate....I mean WHERE did ENOUGH food come from for three square meals/day for that many people, and WHO prepped it and HOW? How did they always appear in fresh clothing, and who did the ironing? Where did they sleep, especially in inclement weather? Just where did the pool table come from? Lastly, where did Giligan hide his motorcycle? BHE
@@blackholeentry3489 Yes, I have thought many those things, too- and though some of the people always wore the same clothing, how did others “just happen” to have many different garments with them for a 3-hour boat ride? One had to temporarily suspend logic in some ways when watching it- but nevertheless, it was still an entertaining show… : )
@FactsVerse No comment yet. I will fix this. My favorite comment was when Gilligan found the mine and he was digging underneath it to get to the panel and he dug his way out the other side by mistake. 😂
Loved seeing the photos, especially the ones with his dad. There was a very strong resemblance with father & son. One of the photos used looks very much like Mickey Rooney and not Alan Hale Jr or Sr
Nepo baby? Good for him! The Skipper has white khaki pants, and they never got dirty Does he wash them in the salty lagoon? Oh well..."Gilligan's Island " isn't based in reality at all.
Loved this video and loved Alan . He always seemed a nice man on and off screen. I did very much enjoy Gilligan’s Island and have the DVD box set and a Gilligan statue with a spring ( bob) head. I love him. Many thanks once again for your presentation. Cheers
I liked Gilligan's island Alan hale Jr played the skipper very well on Gilligan's Island he was on the andy Griffith show he played Jeff Pruett good video vickie napa california
I simply see nothing wrong with Alan Hale Jr., to follow on is Father's footsteps. He was an extraordinary actor, and I loved "Gilligan's Island" Plus, he was a Veteran! RIP Skipper. ⚓️🙏🕊🇺🇸🕊🙏⚓️
I love to see either of the Hales on the screen. The senior Hale was the BEST scene stealers of all time. Alan Jr. was great on "Casey Jones" in the 50's and was terrific on the Andy Griffith show.
This was a great video but I don’t know how Mr. Hale could possibly keep his “ secret” when he had the exact same name as his famous father and looks almost exactly like him!
There have been photos run side by side of father and son where they looked identical to each other at certain parts of their lives. He was also supposed to have played Sam the butcher on The Brady Bunch! Re: nepo -baby status? At least he had incredible talent to back it up, unlike the Smiths! Haha!
I liked both Senior and junior, but especially junior because of him being on Gilligan’s Island as the Skipper…. I’m wondering, does anyone know if father and son work together on a movie or TV show? That would be too cool for words!
I could be wrong on this, but I remember voices well. I did some research and looked and did not find Alen Hale in captain blood? I do, however, know he was in the adventures of Robin Hood and the The Sea Hawk. All are my favorite movies. As a funny part of this. Growing up, I watched all these movies and did not realize until I was older that in the adventures of Robin Hood, it was Alen Hale Sr, and in Gilligan's Island, it was Alen Hale Jr. As a kid, you don't realize the age of the film. Proof of that, as a child in the 60s, i was in love with Olivia de Havilland, never realizing she at the time was my mother's age. Actually, not until I looked up the date of the movie. Truth is I still see Olivia de Havilland as the most beautiful actress on the screen to this day.
Gilligan's Island was 1 of my favorite shows when I was growing up in the late 60's early 70's, I cudn't wait 2 get home from school & lay on the floor in front of our tv with rabbit ear antenna & "SIT RIGHT BACK & YOU'LL HEAR A TALE, A TALE OF A FATEFUL TRIP", join in if you know the words, R.I.P MR.HALE & ALL OF THE CASTAWAYS WE LOVED AS KIDS & HAVE LOST & HOPING GINGER, TINA LOUISE KEEPS MARCHING ON
@@FactsVerse I had many, but right off the top of my head, Gilligan being bit by a bat & thinking he's a vampire, the jack & the beanstalk episode with Gilligan's actual son playing him & Alan Hale as the Giant, Gilligan's head on top of the totem pole, just 2 name a few
Thinking back to the TV series of the 1960s, there were only two that have stood the test of time: *Gilligan's Island and Star Trek* Two very, very different genres of TV.
*Jonas Grumby!* 🤪🤪 I rather just keep calling him " _Skipper_ " If you notice, _Alan Hale Jr_ calls a lot of people "Little Buddy" in some of the shows he's guested on. Last week, He called "Barney Fife" little buddy on the " *Andy Griffith Show* ". Just love the guy! He looks like the kind of guy you wouldn't mind hanging with! Forgot to mention that " _Alan Hale Sr"_ played Little John along side " _Errol Flynn_ " in " *The Adventures of Robin Hood* " 🤗
Linebacker at USC? 1935 Rose Bowl? Come on. He was born in 1921. Fibtabulous! His work and friendly screen persona were abundantly appreciated without having to make stuff up.
Why are you showing a picture of Mickey Rooney as Alan Hale, Jr. ? How do you possibly make a mistake like that ? "Facts Verse", really ??? Come on, man - do better !!
I bought his old bike from his wife at a garage sale when he was sick at his home in Pac Pal Ca She was really nice to everyone I was surprised that actors were not as well off as I thought they would be. They were on my paper route for the Santa Monica Evening Outlook.
@@FactsVerse My Heart and Prayers go out to the Hale Family on the loss of the Husband/Father. I know what yall feel on that because at 12 in 1969 I suffered the loss of my Mom also. And at 66 it still affects me.
OMG! I didn't realize that he looked THAT much like his father. One of my favorite movies is "They Drive By Night" and here I thought it was Jr. I never noticed the year that the film was made duh!
