You know this isn't a true story because Alan Moore has never been 23 years old: he just materialised into our world one day, full wizard beard and fiery eyes, to regale us with tales we did not know we needed.
He’s released a number of wonderful spoken-word recordings, including ‘Angel Passage’, ‘Snakes and Ladders’, and ‘The Highbury Working’. Worth seeking out, IMHO.
Alan Moore lives quite near me in Northampton. I've seen him quite few times. He's friends with the father of a friend of mine. Lovely guy and hugely intelligent and talented.
You see, English is not my first language, and while I can read it and speak it with relative ease, this poem was far too complex and too quickly told for me to understand fully what was going on. And yet, I was completely hypnotized by it, at a certain point I even forgot to try to understand it. Absolutely captivating, that must be the rhythm he was talking about before, right ? It seems you don’t need to understand it to feel it, brilliant
I think you understood it better than most. I'm a native speaker myself and didn't know enough of the context behind the poem to know what it was about until I saw the poem told again in the form of a comic, but Moore's recital still drew me in.
Hypnotic, from the beginning to far beyond the end ... Still can hear the silences of his voice spreading out on my unconsciousness...I will come back again and again through the years to feed my very soul with his music...until I will hear all but words...thank you M. Moore.
As an inspiring poet I have to say I'm amazed - I didn't realise Moore wrote poetry, and certainly wouldn't have expected such rich and accomplished work. Now I have to get into his work. I'm considering this course. Amazing.
I assure you he is one of the literary “greats” of our time. His work in the media of comics may have soured critics against him, which is problematic in and of itself, but the man can WRITE.
Such a beautiful reading and reintegration with his own work. No one can't ever say this wasn't perfect riding. And that it's because he believes that.
Unspeakably moving. So good to see you here I'm at a loss for words. Thank you Alan. For everything you've ever done. Thank you BBC. I can't think of anything else to say other than: I'll never forget it; this. 😇
It's a damn good idol to have my guy! Take care, it's easy to give up on things such as reading and wrting nowadays (I've done it myself). Hope you find a way to keep your dreams and passions alive !
Do keep writing. Sometimes you can even use the cut up method. Cut out words, toss them in the air and write what you pick up. You will write a great poem. You can call it. The Universe helped me write it. Lchaim.
Amazing ! Thanks for that, Alan! You say - 'The one place gods inarguably exist is in the human mind' ...yes, and YOUR mind is special place, full of gods ! We worship them, because they are UNIQUE ! Your gods .... are Extraordinary Ladies and Gentlemens!
Your mind that curses it's lack of poetry is already a greater work of art than any man can fashion. It's so artful, how it's done is not only stranger than we suppose, it's stranger than _can_ be supposed.
"For God's sake, let us sit upon the ground And tell sad stories of the death of kings; How some have been deposed; some slain in war, Some haunted by the ghosts they have deposed; Some poison'd by their wives: some sleeping kill'd; All murder'd...." -Richard II, III,ii
@@diegobermudez8102 I’ve just been listening to that album a lot lately! And also, if MF DOOM can sample Charles Bukowski then perhaps something like this could have worked, too

Is someone as overwhelmed with this video as me? I thought I didn't liked poetry, I just clicked because Alan Moore, but I'm crying and I don't understand a sh1t
Your 'title card' spells 'gangstas', and yet both the title description and blurb spell 'gangsters'. One (or two) HAVE, by simple logic, to be wrong. It may well be a simple oversight, but it's quite a damning example of how much you care about content creators and the works they produce.
He’s always been. Much of his work is taking something designed to wring pennies out of children (superheroes) and reimagining them as extremely dark and violent. His Miracleman series is kind of the equivalent of making a dark and gritty reimagining of Paw Patrol.
@@erik_arman Imagery that found its way trickled down into Snyder's Man of Steel and other stuff. His reimaginings have become part of the collective imagination now.
This fabulous poem was enhanced with music and a cartoon on a 1983 single by the concept band The Sinister Ducks: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C2qfBLbtCqE.html
