I first met them when calling the bingo at Yarmouth Pontins. I walked up to them and said I’m Ted Rogers if I ever get my own TV show I’ll make you stars. That was 50 years ago….
Unexpectedly I think these two are actually attempting to deconstruct the sort of frilly-shirted 70s act also pastiched in Knowing Me Knowing You- the puppet is knowingly and deliberately flea-bitten and note Ted Rodgers says they’ve just been at the Edinburgh Festival. This is from the era of alternative comedy really taking over on TV, so interesting to see a vague hint of that on 321
Definitely, from the outset he's mocking the notion that he's a ventriloquist. This is definitely a self-aware display -- as you say it's deconstructing this form of comedy.

I've been looking for ages for a 321 vent act who comes on with an ostrich. His act is worse than the Isosceles' (if that's possible). At the end Ted says to him "What's the puppets name?"the guy replies "} dunno, I bought him on the way here". Still better than Nina Conti. Abba dabba do.
