If you listen the audio commentary, the director said that Alan Rickman spoke a very good French but in real life Steven Spurrier had a bad French accent so Alan played it as it was. When he sings in The return of the native "Le point du jour" it was more fluent 😊

As much as I enjoyed the diary I wish it had never been published! People have drawn all kinds of misleading assumptions and speculations based on ambiguous comments that are just bits and pieces that were put together not in any real order. It breaks my heart the things people have said about that beautiful , kind, selfless, generous, faithful man. A man known by his peers, friends and other actors as having a strict moral code should not have such dispicable things said about him. What made Rima think she had the right to publish his private diary for all the world to see, when she herself said she never read it because it was private?? I will never forgive her for that and the fact that she wouldn't give him at least one child, when he dreamed of having a family.. just so she could run for office in a district that preferred single women to those married and with a family. It didn't seem to help her much either way, but it deprived Alan of something special. No, she didn't love him like she should have loved someone so beautiful and precious as him ❣️
