One of those actors who are/were more entertaining and interesting as a baddy rather than a goody and before Hollywood ..Just check him out as Obediah Slope..leaves that Potter stuff for DEAD!!😘😁
Dead set Rickman deserved an Oscar for his performance as Snape, he not only brought the character to life from the book unlike any other book to movie adaptation but he improved upon it, it's also worth mentioning he has to be one of the most underrated actors of all time. RIP.
Oscars rarely go to science fiction movies and/or actors. It's like the last prejudice, even though these movies are among the most popular and highest-grossing. His roles in Die Hard and in Kevin Smith's Dogma are my favorites, by far.
Sadly, fantasy movies (as well as Action and Sciencefiction and such) are not regulars for the Academy. There are several movies that got nominated for some of the big awards, but they still are the exception to the rule. Especially in the last years there have been more and more attempts at getting genre movies some big nominations, i think were getting there honestly, although very slowly
Absolutely, Alan's talent and his voice are incomparable. It is such a great loss to entire acting community. He was so kind and compassionate with the younger actors that worked with. He is greatly missed. RIP Alan 🙏
his portrayal of Severus was amazing, in early movies he performed so well that anyone can easily dislike him and in the last movies when his whole story is revealed, he acted that part so well that watching it and seeing the expressions, the heart break, the guilt, the loss everything it was heart breaking. "Always" one word but the way he said it, it was like he explain Severus whole life.
Colonel Brandon is still, by far, my favorite Jane Austen suitor. Rickman's portrayal of a man slowly realizing that happiness could actually be his...and then the final wedding scene where the usually dour and reserved man is joyfully throwing money to children...makes me cry every time.
I ADORED him as Colonel Brandon. It was the first time I really noticed him, although I had seen & loved Truly, Madly, Deeply. The only reason I was always positive Snape was a goodie was that I couldn’t bear for Colonel Brandon to be a baddie. I only saw Die Hard long after.
I know, it was even more depressing how he didn't have the right farewell in the media, mostly because it was a week after bowie's death, so there was a quick notice about it
I have been obsessed with Alan since I was 13 years old and I’m now 31. Never had I ever seen somebody criticizing him for bad acting or bad personality. What a breathe of fresh air whenever I see him act. Even though he has left us, he will always be remembered. Always.
@@comfysaturdayx9315 no, he was in the movie Love actually and he played a man named Harry Also in that movie he was married to a woman played by Emma Thompson who also plays proffesor Trelawney
"Hans Gruber" and "The Sheriff of Nottingham" have always been my two most favorite characters of Alan Rickman. He brought energy, humor, and empathy to his work, and even as a villain you couldn't help but love him (and almost root for him).
I was actually at “the wizarding world of Harry Potter” the day after Alan died... there was a somber atmosphere, and you could feel that everyone was lamented, like everyone lost their beloved potions master.
@@miavinson2726 hedwig was supposed to be sudden though and it happened right in front of Harry. Lupin and Tonks were just....dead. Pretty sure Lavender died too officially, last we heard she was attacked by Fenrir and that was it.
I'm guessing he did not want the title. His wife was a Labour pol, after all. Don't know if he was keen on monarchy enough. Benedict Cumberbatch on the Tonight Show called him "Lord Rickman of the Alan."
@Daniel Hoffeditz If saw who were the other winners, I'm guessing they were stuck with the decision of putting either Die Hard or Quigley Down Under on the list. They chose the one with the shorter title. And they couldn't include one that has Aborigines murdered!
I'll always love and remember him as Colonel Christopher Brandon. In 'Sense and Sensibility' he fell in love with Marianne Dashwood even before he saw her, just listening to her singing. I recommend highly if you haven't seen this movie, do so.
His performance in Robin Hood was one of the best. I loved it. Alan Rickman is one of my most favorite actors. That voice.. Loved him in Dogma, he had some great lines there also, and showed real depth as the Metatron, and what performances as Snape. RIP always.
Such a wonderful actor, and someone who will be deeply missed. I could listen to his calm and smooth voice for several hours, and he was really someone who knew how to act effectively without having to make it so overly complex, as well as someone who could make every single line memorable. He was also a main reason to watch movies featuring him in the first place
Did not know he could sing! Love it! DAMN, love his voice. I love everything else about him.....salt and pepper hair, 6' 1", beautiful eyes ( not just his eyes....the shape of his eyes), lips, hands.....and his comedic talent even in more serious rolls. LOVE HIM!!! RIP, BEAUTIFUL ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
He totally stole the show on that movie. Kevin Costner couldn't even work up an English accent. Rickman won an award for playing the villain in that one....and he was funny then.
"And it's a human need to be told stories. The more we're governed by idiots and have no control over our destinies, the more we need to tell stories to each other about who we are, why we are, where we come from, and what might be possible." Alan Rickman
Love that character by him, too -- so much so that I did a fanfic of HP where I have him capable of a potion that transforms him temporarily into a younger version of him with little knowledge of his past. I named the alternate ego "Christopher" because it was Brandon's first name.
Alan RIckman was truly one of the greats. I just LOVE him as the "Sheriff of Nottingham", but he will always be Colonel Brandon to me; kind of like John Candy will always be "Uncle Buck" and Audrey Hepburn will always be "Holly Golightly". Sometimes a well written part and a gifted actor create something brilliant.
Today, 5 years ago, the world became poorer, lonelier, darker ... because we lost a wonderful shining star. I still love and miss him, just as much as I've done every day since January 14th, 2016 ... and tears are already running ... 💔 After all this time ... Always💔
So many amazing performances. Hans Gruber was so reserved and seemed so milquetoast, but he was actually a stone-cold badass. Alexander Dane was so amazingly funny and tragic, but he really had a huge heart. Snape is without question his best.
Not many actors can compare, he stood out like no other. That voice! I think Snape was the perfect role for him and no one else could have even come close. He created something that wasn’t even in the books. Only the most skilled actors can do that!
What a fantastic actor! My all-time favorite part for him was the Metatron in Dogma, but he is heart-melting in Sense and Sensibility, too. Thanks for this video!
Would've liked to have seen Rickman's performance in "Bottle Shock" somewhere on this list. Still, it goes to show just how many memorable performances this man gave throughout his storied career. May he rest in peace, and be perpetually remembered for his amazing acting ability forever.
Professor Snape lives on in our hearts! He never died in the book... He was a potion master so obviously he drank some honey badger antivenom to survive
+Bin chicken AKA White Ibis Can't you read ? The OP is talking about how fans feel about Snape and not what actually happened in the fucking series. Really youtube comments ...
@ Sergio, funny you made that comment because I too invisioned him using a potion to escape death. He was my favorite character from the start. I had hoped that he would end up on Potters side since he was once in love with his mother. That part ended up truth. Unfortunately, after Dumbledore died, I had Snape's death figured out and was hainging on to the hopes of being wrong. Ironic that everyone thought Dumbledore was on Harry's side when in fact, he was using him. Snape was the one that looked out for Harry in a passive way.
You forgot the most deepest character ever. His evil character in a two actor movie called Closet Land. Just two actors in it the whole movie and he stole it.
Chynaash that is one of my favorites! He could interrogate me any day. Proof that you don't need massive casts and elaborate sets to have a great movie.
Harry Potter is 8 movies though. It's Hard enough to play an iconic character that millions of people had imagined while reading the books. He managed to sustain that character over eight movies even getting better as it went along. That's really difficult.
Agreed, loved him in that movie but then I loved him in every movie except for Closet Land. I could not stand seeing him play an Interrogator and torturing a woman.

He wasn't even the bad guy, he was a true "antagonist" someone with different motives. "That mint jelly on your lamb... is my own creation." Best performance ever.
Although Rickman didn’t have much experience at the time when he plays Hans Gruber in Die Hard 1 I felt that he was the best actor (other than Bruce Willis) in the movie :) -Also r.i.p Snape, Hans and Alan, you will be missed ❤️ Always
Alan Rickman simply could do no wrong onscreen. Period. He was also sex personified IMHO. Before people squawk about his age, I love older guys and as I am 51, it isn't such a stretch. His voice was perfection. R.I.P Alan you magnificent.
Alan Rickman and James Gandolfini were two actors that didn't get the leading part, but when they were on screen, OWNED the movie. Heath Ledger as the Joker is another example.
I remember that! He was so creepy, and when I saw him later in Truly Madly Deeply I couldn't believe it was the same actor. He was incredibly versatile.
@@sarahwarnock2707 technically they were married, and he never consummated the marriage. She agreed to the marriage. Such was the lot of women way back in the day. Still to this very day in some cultures. Semantics!
Metatron!!! My favorite Alan Rickman character. My favorite Alan Rickman movie, both a notch above Hans Gruber and Die Hard. I really loved this man and the roles he chose.
