Ole was unlucky. Great sub for several seasons, then Becks left and Ole played right wing. He was excellent, possibly even better than Beckham. Really thoughtful crosses, just like a striker would want, and a goal threat from open play too. Then he got a bad knee injury. Never recovered and retired a few years later.
@@chrishammond4381 I was there mate. I was at every Home game in old Trafford in that period, and saw Beckham from his debut, through his "purgatory" after the World Cup, and his two "Purple Patch" seasons , where he outran and wore down every full back he played against, which earned him his transfer to Madrid, ( as well as his shirt sales) He was a very good player, even without his dead ball skills. Ole on the right wing for that one season, before his injury, was at least his equal. His crosses were more thoughtful, (as an ex centre forward he knew when and how to play a through ball) he was a bit quicker over 6 yards (Becks was never teh quickest) and had a killer shot when cutting in from the right ( rarely part of Becks game) Football is all about opinions, and if yours is different from mine , i respect that.( even I f I know I'm right 😁😁)
Giggs right footed assist for the first goal for solskjaer was insane, However Solskjaer’s assist for scholes on the second goal is a genuinely bonafide fucking beauty
This Man Utd team was told to express themselves. Growing up I watched Man Utd with mates, with my brother, on my own and even catching the game whilst taking out my lovely little daughters. Sir Alex created a real theatre of dreams❤️❤️❤️
He was never 3steps ahead of anyone. But his skill and wylie ability was pure class on this day... He was slow as an ox during this superb performance...
That was a stunning performance from Man Utd. Typical of them back then. Oles turn and finish was so clinical and as for Scholes.....No one better at what he did.
@@bestfc100many top coaches have had moments of shit. Guardiola has had his team smashed before yet he is regarded by many as the GOAT. Also, Guardiola might have been saying the truth while he himself is much better. That’s like saying Messi would be lying if he said Iniesta is the best player ever when in fact Messi is regarded as the best ever.
@@Magicalfluidprocess I can: my opinion is that Gerrard is overrated and was made to look competent by playing alongside Xabi Alonso, who actually was world class. Gerrard couldn't lace Lampard's boots, let alone Scholes'.
@@bestfc100 there's no probably about it,...just look at some of the remarks many of the superstars of the game think of Scholes, ( the Zidane,..Henry, Cantona Xavi ...etc... a meastro.... magnificent player
@@jimmyafernandez In 2003 can you name ANY midfielder in the world who was better than Scholes? The only contender for that title in 2003 would have been Keane or Zidane ( IF you consider Zidane a midfielder). Xavi and Iniesta hadn't reached their peak then and Pirlo was also not at his best then!
@anthonyclarke4016 To be honest I was talking about Gazza and Scholes's era. SIR Bobby was quality and was the same week in week out. He was lightyears ahead and could have easily played in today's game. Beckenbauer said it was like marking a racehorse because of his fitness levels. I've recently seen footage of him passing from various distances and putting backspin on the ball etc. He was amazing. 👍🏻
Scholes better than Gazza. Gazza had way too much baggage. Scholes was consummate professional. Embodied Utd through and through. Not sure what Gazza embodied?! 😂
Scholes first touch was sublime when he received the ball he could control it perfectly and at the same time place it inch perfect to where his second touch if it was a passing kick could be executed perfectly and he knew where to put the first touch even before he received the ball that in my humble opinion made him one of the best midfielders in the history of the game….
I liked Barthez - but Forlan was a bit of a let-down. Popular with the fans for some reason, but he fluffed a lot of chances that Cole or Sherringham would have put away
I seem to remember when Zidane won European player of the year, and the reporter says what’s it like to be the best player in Europe….Zidane reply’s with a class answer, he simply said I don’t know ask Paul scholes
Scholes the quiet man the media didn't pay much attention to thankfully. He made so many of Ferguson's teams tick. He could turn defence into attack in the blink of an eye with his quick precision passing. Most of the time not looking up as he'd already seen where players were before the ball arrived at his feet. Poor old Alan, constantly stating he doesn't regret turning down the chance 'twice' to play in those wonderful sides. Grandad did you really turn them down twice lol !
Shearer could have had 2 red cards at least and absolutely would have if VAR existed. Refs protected him so much, even when kicking someone in the face when they are lying on the floor.
@@TheOriginal_BigMac agreed. However, those challenges were a red back then too. Elbow to the head, studs up late challenge, and through the back off the floor. I merely pointed out that had VAR existed, he would definitely have gone for one of them. Shearer got special protection off refs.
I remember a couple of seasons earlier Newcastle won this fixture 5-0 ....... there were banners, T-shirts, mugs, T-towels and all sorts of commemorative tat. United won the League ........... in this game, a world class hat trick, fantastic play but none of the above, just another 3 points. And that was the difference in these days, you don't win titles with hysteria.
What made this a great team performance was that Utd played Real Madrid 3 or 4 days earlier and got hammered. Lost 3-1 away in CL. Newcastle at St. James Park during these years was a tough place to go to. Utd bouncing back as hard and aggressively as they did showed so much character that modern day football teams could not match or even come close to! Utd were not good up to Dyer goal and its like it awoke a beast that went on a rampage for 20 minutes. Its the only time I have ever seen the Newcastle fans silent and emotionless in the crowd and Sir Bobby Robson speechless after the game
@bestfc100 I think back then the players even in them positions could cover most formations in 1 game without having extra positions to help them out, they would literally do the work from back to front no lazy strikers and midfielders or wingers them times
Shearer - Brilliant striker in his day, but the centre forward version of Dennis Wise. Snidey elbows & studs left up on purpose in first 10 mins. Knowing full well the ref will never send him off.
United were class then. Shearer got away with lots back then. Players were harder then. VAR has ruined the game. Players gone too soft now.United were a real team with the best captain.
Weird that Forlan at Utd and Forlan at the clubs he played for later (Vilareal and Atletico Madrid) was night and day difference. Even at international tournaments he just looked a much more confident and deadly forward player compared to how he looked at Utd. I could never explain it
@@bestfc100: Bc the English have this dumb idea that u have to be 6ft and look like Stevie G or Lamps to be a world class central midfielder. If Scholes was French, Spanish or German he would’ve won a Ballon d’or. If Brazilian, they would’ve made him captain.
Wow, so easy to forget how good the top flight was back then, the standard was so much better than it is right now! Today's players should watch this & learn instead of spending most of their time acting like spoilt little boys & thinking that they are way better than they are!
Yeah the standard was a lot better. How the feck Titus Bramble made it as a professional footballer is one of lifes great mysteries. Bobby Robson paid Ipswich something like 5 million for him. That was the first sign of the dementia kicking in.
Was he better than Pirlo and Gattuso? I'm asking coz those two were on another level also. Scholes was part of the England team that failed to qualify for the Euro 2008, which Italy played until semifinals at Penalty shoot outs 😅
Bramble was absolute shite Shearer should have been sent off in the first 10 mins Barthez was absolute shite Scholes was in a couple of classes above Lampard and Gerrard
I was in Newcastle that day. The local paper was saying Dyer should replace Scholes in the England squad. We laughed at this on a full bus of toon goons. Then the drubbing ensued
