Alanbrooke Barracks / Kaserne ,Paderborn 2019.
To those that served in this camp over the years i hope this video brings back some nice memories.
I was lucky enough to get in there this summer whilst workmen were preparing for an open day scheduled for the day after.
After the open day it was closed permanently to public as they began the process of knocking it down and building houses.

92-95, carried the new Colours as 3LI became 2LI. Only as an old man do I realise how much I miss that life.

13 years spent there, some amazing times especially in the Cpls mess!! What a waste of a decent camp and location

Aww.. my first posting in 1973.. The Combat Supplies Battalion Officers Mess was in this Barracks, and I spent a year with the 3rd Bn Royal Anglian in the same barracks! Lots of happy memories! I also had the honour of parachuting into the barracks during the Families day celebrations in 1974.. quite a tight DZ on a round canopy in those days!

Brings back good memories of Alanbrooke Barracks. Was stationed there in 1980 to 1983 with the Royal Signals Task Force Echo, then renamed 202 Signal Squadron. 15th/19th Hussars were the main unit who run the camp at the time. Great times. Lest we forget.

only spent a couple of years here with 1LI before they became the riffles , I had some of the best times of my life here , its a shame to see it overgrown .

I spent 8 months there 74/75. Had some fantastic times. It put a lump in my throat just knowing what is going to happen to this wonderful barracks.

Interesting how fast the nature takes everything back. Had a lot of appointments with Dudeck and Simpson there to explain why I am sick all the time🤣😜

Home 1966-69. My most abiding memory of Alanbrooke barracks has to be sweeping the cobbled roads of leaves. Grrrrr.

@@ChunterGB 50 years ago the roads were still cobbled, there were stone horse troughs still about too. I can see many more new-ish buildings in the video which makes me think there must have been a lot of investment over the years. I read that the many of the original barrack blocks are to be saved and are to be given the German equivalent of ‘listed building’ status. There appears to be plans for offices, a community hub of sorts and some houses. Before I get too decrepit, and once the new owners have sorted everything out I might go over and have a look about.

My father (RIP) recalled that barrack on fire when he entered Paderborn in 1945 when his battalion K.O.Y.LI. took over from a US unit. He returned in the late 1960’s as the 2IC Sennelarger trading centre, I was a young lad attending school at Gutersloh. The whole are was a huge BAOR training and camp area, I suspect the loss of military presence has hit the local economy. Would not be surprised if it is used for illegal immigrants now! Sad but time moves on. If Putin continues with his offensive we could see the area populated by British troops again

Wow thats some history there, thanks for sharing that. The camp is pretty much gone now apart from guardroom and two other listed buildings, its going to be developed into a "posh" housing estate.
