I am surprised they haven't modelled spring switches yet, because they were first implemented back in the early 1900's on streetcar railroads and were transferred over to the larger railroads after that. It would allow you to roll through switches without having to open the switch or have to reclose the switch once you went through it.

the answer about the ribbed wheels is yes. Both for cooling and for structure. eventually got so they didn't need them for cooling.

It’s amazing how little remains of this branch nowadays. I was trying to follow it on Google, but I couldn’t find a trace. Alarka is labeled on the map, but it looks like an empty field. Makes me wonder what my local area looked like back then! Edit re: Alarka mines This is one of my favourite industries to switch, and there’s a million different ways it can be done. Here’s what works for me, your results may vary. I usually block the cars the way you had them, but i shove them up the hill instead. M2 has a big enough runaround to avoid any issues up there. Half the Alarka yard is on a 1% grade, so any house track setouts can be shoved up with the mine cars and “dropped” in using gravity. Just make sure you tie a handbrake, or the depot gets a new freight door!
