I was stationed at Eielson AFB 7 years, lived in North Pole 2 of those years …. Loved Alaska ….. wife & 2 kids, we left in 1985 and miss it so much ….. you have captured its beauty & wonder!!!
Wow! You packed a full itinerary! You must have been exhausted by the time you got home. But you really got to see and experience so much of Alaska. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, glad you liked our video 😊 If you are looking for details about what to pack, you can check out our blog mrnmrstraveler.com/what-to-wear-for-alaska-winter-trip-ultimate-packing-list/
@@MrnMrsTraveler Thanks for your reply. I 'm planning to visit Alaska as you did. As a retired senior my budget is limited. If you don't mind, will you please tell me the money you spent in Alaska during your stay for each person (spent in Alaska only). Thanks in advance.
@@francislee7041 Sir, the budget will depend on the number of activities you are planning to do. Like if you book a day trip to Chena Hot Springs (along with Northern Lights Tour) , it will cost close to $200 per person. Most of the activities will cost between $50 to $300 per person. Also, we planned the trip ourselves and rented a car to roam around (driving was rough in icy conditions) . But for most of these tours, tour operators provide pickup and drop from the hotel.
I saw them last year in Alaska. What’s crazy is they look nothing like they do in pictures and video. They look more like a whitish haze. Your naked eye doesn’t register the crazy colors that show up on pics/video. Still a cool experience though.
We went in March during new moon when the aurora activity is highest and got lucky because of high kp index and a dark sky . We actually saw different colors in the band of aurora like green , purple and even other colors as well . But yea we have friends who have had a different experience 😊
@@MrnMrsTraveler weird. I was there in March too…the people running the Aurora place were even explaining how what you see in photos/videos, are nothing like what is seen with the naked eye. I also know, have known people that have lived in AK that said the same thing. Did they appear to you exactly as shown in the video? I mean..as vivid?
All about your trip was amazing. We just did that trip on November and just like you said you have to be there cause you really can’t describe those beautiful moments. I love Alaska especially on summer we go fishing and it’s amazing 18 hours sun light and rivers and creeks hiking everything it’s so beautiful you should see the videos i have here. If you guys like Alaska on winter you’ll loved in summer 😁
Guess we will have to plan a trip to Alaska in summer soon. Truly, if winters are some amazing, can’t wait to checkout how Alaska looks like in summers 😃
July it’s amazing for the salmon 🍣 season. You don’t have to know how to fish there’s millions of salmons on River and the best thing it’s that you get to take home whatever you catch

Amazing video! Will you please tell me if the tour allowed you sufficient time to watch the northern lights? Or are these tours very rushed? (since you have just 14 hours to visit many places). How much time were you allowed to explore the arctic circle and then also observe the northern lights? Will wait for your answer. Thanks
I also wanted to ask you few more things, 1. Did you book the car for the entire trip? For example: after the tour shuttle dropped you off, did you drive back to your hotel? 2. Could you do Chena hot springs and the arctic circle 14-hour tour while staying in the same hotel? Or did you pick different hotels closer to each place? I hope to hear back from you soon. Thank you.
Thanks, regarding you questions :- 1. You get sufficient time to see the northern lights. Yes there is a time constraint as the bus stops at many places but its same for any tour you book. In the winters its very cold as well, so for us we felt the time provided was sort of sufficient. 2. The shuttles picked us up and dropped us at our hotel. 3.We picked the same hotel in Fairbanks for our stay. We have provided all the information in our blog about the stay, what to wear and other details here :- mrnmrstraveler.com/category/destination/north-america/usa/alaska/
Hi, thanks for sharing the trip, it's very helpful for our plan to travel to Alaska this Dec. How did you travel when you were in Fairbanks from one place to another? I assume you drove the rental car? How was the road condition?
Thank you, glad you liked it. We rented a car in Fairbanks. However you could do without renting also, since most of the tours have a pickup and drop facility from the hotel. The roads were quite slippery due to snow, but if you are confident you can definitely rent a car.
Glad you liked our video Chloe. Fortunately when we were able to drive around the highways as it didn’t snow much. But yes we were really cautious since in some parts the roads were icy. Also many tours provide pickup and drop facilities from the hotel itself.
What specific camera did you use for filming the Northern Lights? We are going in March of this year and I’m a bit overwhelmed with my camera options. Lol

We loved our stay at the Pike’s Lodge. They even wake you up for the northern lights if you ask for 😄. The only thing is it is outside the downtown and closer to the airport however they do provide complimentary shuttle service for pickup and drop from the airport and the train depot. There is a restaurant also next to the hotel and they service breakfast as well.
Great great video guys!!!! Hi! Ive planned to fly first days of April. How easy is to book a tour to see nothern lights, i mean over there with no previous reservation? Do you recommend rent a car? Muchas gracias!!!
Thank you so much 😊 The tours are easy to book online which I would suggest to book in advance. Even, you can check with your hotel about the tours. I would prefer car as it gives flexibility but that would mean driving on a icy condition at night.
Thank you, glad you liked our video. We visit in March. You can checkout all the details on our website mrnmrstraveler.com/category/destination/north-america/usa/alaska/
The northern lights are visible from the Pike’s waterfront lodge itself but we booked tours as well. You can checkout our blog mrnmrstraveler.com/ultimate-alaska-winter-travel-guide for more details 🙂
As per what we have read the northern light season starts from September. But it’s difficult to say whether one can see the lights as it’s dependent on factors like kpi, weather etc. and we didn’t visit any national parks in Alaska so won’t be able to comment on that 🙂
Prinyanka and Pranjal this was awesome. I loved your Itenary. Will it snow in March like 4th week of March is when we are planning to go, which is early spring. I hope it will be snowing then.
Thank you for sharing, we are planning to visit on December... if you dont mind me asking, how much will be the tentative budget for 7 days aside from the air ticket? And do you have guys booked a tourist guide from day 1-6? 😘

Thank you for the video. Did you travel beginning or end of March? Trying to pick the best time to go. Anything you would change about your itinerary? I am planning a similar trip. I appreciate any info that could help me. Thank you so much!
Thanks for asking. We visited in the mid week of March. We can suggest you to add driving to Castner Glacier near Fairbanks if time permits. Also we had planned for a Snowmobile tour to see spencer glacier but couldn’t do it because of weather constraints.

Hi. Great video! I have a few questions about chena hot springs. In the day tour package, is the time allocated for hot springs enough to enjoy and get ready for the museum next?? How long can you stay in the hot springs in March? And would you recommend dog sledding with Chena hot springs or Northern Alaska tour company? Thank you!
Thanks, glad you liked our video. For us we spent around an hour in the hot spring and felt it was sufficient. We had read about the dog sledding at Chena as well but we liked the dog sledding with paw for adventures.
Sorry I wanted to ask you one more question. Is it safe to drive to and from Fairbanks to Chena hot springs resort on our own? This is if we don’t opt for their shuttle. Appreciate your response. Thank you 😊
@@soreddy8120 It all depends on the road conditions actually, if it snows it will be a bit difficult and you need to be cautious else the roads are fine. We had also thought earlier to drive there ourselves and stay for a night. But since they were offering shuttle in the tour package, we changed our plan😊
Thank you for asking. You can check out all the details in our blog here - mrnmrstraveler.com/what-to-wear-for-alaska-winter-trip-ultimate-packing-list/
Not the whole time, for the duration we were in Fairbanks. It was convenient as most of the tours operate from Fairbanks and they provide pickup and drop facilities.
@@HI-pi1er The activities we chose like northern lights tour, Chena hot spring and others were available from Fairbanks.. We didn’t spend much time in Anchorage so not really sure what activities are available from Anchorage 😊
We are planning to visit fairbanks in March 1st week. Have some q related to renting car & driving around fairbank. Does fairbank has lyft/uber/taxi as finding rental car on dates i am travelling seems very difficult ?
Yes Uber/Lyft is available, frequency depends on weather conditions. would suggest to contact hotel for arranging taxi service if you are staying outside the downtown area. Also many activities include a pickup/drop facility from the hotel itself but it’s better to confirm beforehand.
Thanks for the video. We are thinking about going to Alaska to see northern light during December. We have a four year old, not sure if it’s good idea. Any advice? Thanks
For the Chena hot springs, we did a tour. We drove to few other places in Fairbanks, it depends on how comfortable you are driving in snow. You can refer to our blog, have provided all the details :- mrnmrstraveler.com/category/destination/north-america/usa/alaska
We booked everything ourselves. If you want to know more about our trip, you can read our blog here - mrnmrstraveler.com/ultimate-alaska-winter-travel-guide/

Since Alaska is a state in the USA, you don’t need a passport unless you don’t have any other form of US Id (license, state id) . And there will be no immigration if you are flying from within the USA.
Hi I loved the video. Thanks for sharing it with us. Can you please share how much did it cost you for the train ride from fairbanks to anchorage and also my another question is, other than glacier what other things we can do in Anchorage?
Thanks, glad you liked it! So the train ride costs $218 from Fairbanks to Anchorage. If you are interested there are helicopter tours for Knik Glacier which runs from few locations in Anchorage.
@@MrnMrsTraveler great shot that was. I'm planning to carry my dji mini 2 to Alaska trip this weekend. I don't have pilot license. Also mini 2 falls under the category less than 250lbs. Should I register?
