Weeks before I flew to Mexico, my lower back began to flare up badly. The doctor said I had Spondylolisthesis. I was really nervous about flying. Ever fly with a lower back pain or ailments that made flying uncomfortable? ➱ BEST TRAVEL SLEEP MASK: bit.ly/grrr-sleep-mask ➱ PORTABLE AIR PURIFIERS FOR TRAVEL: grrrltraveler.com/portable-air-purifiers-for-travel/

No better feeling than hearing the "Doors are closing" announcement and there's no one sitting in your row!!

Try an inflatable neck pillow and place it in the small of your back, it pushes your spine forward and helps to relieve back pain(especially with hard plane seats)

Great recommendation David. A balled up jacket works too. =)

@@grrrltraveler I use the airline pillow in a pinch when I am not wearing a back brace.

It's been a while since I had all 3 seats to myself. I loved being able to lie on my side with my knees bent☺️

Free seats or “more space” these days are an extra luxury. 💍

I also have back pain issues every now and then (specially when I'm sitting for too long). I wear a doctor prescribed backbrace, and in case of "bearable" pain I use warm patches underneath it. I'm not that keen on taking medicaments on a regular basis, but I travel with prescribed 1% diclofenac cream, which would do the trick just in case of real bad pain. Keep up the good work, I very much enjoy your videos. Thank you.
@grrrltraveler
@grrrltraveler Год назад
Interesting- I haven’t heard of that cream. Is your prescribed back brace thick?
@w4nd4
@w4nd4 Год назад
@@grrrltraveler Its made of an elastic material in the front and thin leather with plastic corset whales in the back. Its about 2 mm thick all around. The velcro area is maybe 4-5 mm thick. I only wear it when sitting at desk or when I know I'll be lifting something heavy as when going to the supermarkt or while gardening, or travelling.. Diclofenac sodium is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and doctors precribe it for sprains. In my case I had a back accident when I was 9yo and therefore it's a well-known drug to me since then.

I too am getting older and now when I travel internationally, I carry along a small foam sciatica relieving cushion. Best $25 spent.

I purchased that sleep mask based on your earlier recommendation and I love it. I wish the domestic airlines would have capsule type hotels to grab a few hours of sleep to accommodate long lay overs like those that are at some of the international airports.

Right?! There must be something with US airport monopolies or something that we haven’t upgraded to that concept. Glad you like the mask! I adore it.

I used to know back pain, real bad back pain... I was diagnosed with a herniated disc L5-S1. When I saw the MRI I got queasy. Looked like a squished jelly donut right into the nerve pack. I tried to rehab for six months, downing Vicodin like Skittles. Finally I was told I was a candidate for surgery. Remember this term: Microdiscectomy, it was an in-and-out one day surgery and it gave me my life back.😎🥃..... I missed that you were diagnosed with Spondylolisthesis that's a little bit different, if you get real bad you still might be a candidate for surgery 👍
@grrrltraveler
@grrrltraveler Год назад
Wow- that sounds super painful. Glad you’re much better. I’m a candidate but I have friends who say they’d avoid surgery due to the spinal cord and things going wrong. How long did it take you to recover after surgery?

@@grrrltraveler Just remember it's 2023 we were lined up like when I did my laser eye surgery.... I checked in for my surgery at 7:30 a.m. I was under at 9:30 a.m. and woke up again done at approximately 1:30 p.m. and I went home about 3 p.m. The majority of the rehab after surgery is walking and eventually stretching which I started literally the next day... within three weeks I felt 90% better. We're both tall...stretching will be a way of life, I don't do my stretches each night even a little bit I pay for it.

Great to see you traveling again, just so sorry you have to do it with a sore back! I don't know about you and your flight from Hawaii to LAX, then on to Cancun, but when I flew through there from Portland to SIngapore last year, that walk from the domestic side to the international side was a LONG LONG walk. I'm sure that wasn't easy for you was it? Looking forward to more travel videos coming up with your adventures down in Mexico. I sure wish I could sleep on an airplane, neither my wife nor I can sleep on planes. We just went over 50+ hours with no sleep from Bangkok to finally our home in Beaverton, Oregon! Thanks again for a great video! 💓

Health and age are the two factors which determine how we are. Lifestyle for the last couple of years has changed a lot from 24/7 work environment, lack of rest and sleep, lack for travelling or vacations and very limited spare time for ourselves. In today's extremely busy environment, all that has changed and most companies even the biggest ones are cutting down on leaves and vacations for it's employees which could contribute in health issues at various sectors. Work environment needs to have a lot of changes to give their employees and workers the benefit to enjoy and spend good quality time to enjoy.

I have really bad back pain too. Tough when flying. I normally like to put on lidocaine patches or get trigger points (injecting lidocaine to the lower back) the day before flying. Love your videos. Keep up the good work!❤
@grrrltraveler
@grrrltraveler Год назад
You can inject lidocaine - Is that something your doctor does? I’ve tried the patches but they slide around. At the end of a trip they’re all rolled up on my back.
@andyl1047
@andyl1047 Год назад
@@grrrltraveler yes, doctors at a pain management facility does it. Sometimes if it’s really bad they would add some form of steroids to help with inflammation and muscle spasm. Definitely worth it for flights that are 8+ hrs
