I have never flown to HI, and I've never flown Alaska. A girl born and raised in the South, Delta is all I have ever flown. I actually booked a Delta flight with had ridiculous layovers; ended up reserving an Alaska ticket and cancelled Delta before seeing this video. Now I am so grateful that I did! An excellent video. As an Alaska Airline fan I really enjoyed your video. The interior shots of the cabin were very interesting and thank you for including them. A lot of people just point their camera out the window and we never get to see anything else. Thank you for sharing this great video!
Alaska rocks! Flew 1st class r/t to San Diego and Honolulu, Seattle and Honolulu and wouldn't hesitate to fly them again. When ever I have trips (TDY) planned, I check Alaska first.
So damn true, I only fly first class by necessity when I go home to Kauai because of that issue. I rode on Alaskas 737's from Oakland to Seattle and THAT flight is tough enough. Forget flying close to 6 hours in their cramped economy class.
I always fly first class Alaska and I am always impressed. One time, the lady was so nice she gave me a tour of the aircraft at the end. (Yes. I am a 12)

Alaska Airlines is the best airline bar none! I'm prejudiced as my beautiful daughter-in-law is a senior flight attendant for them. (They do a great job!)
really nice vie of the coast coming into landing @ 5:00 into the video. im april 2012 when i landed in nassau bahamas, the locals were playing calypso in the bandstand located in immigration. while in the line i felt so welcomed and i started to dance to the music. it was fun

Very good video. I really like all the variety you showed, such as the service. I've never flown Alaska Air before, but they certainly made everything look good with all those personal touches they offered their passengers.

Alaska airlines is a great airline never any problems I like them because I fly out of BLI and I can fly direct to Hawaii and las vegas. I always book coach but when I check in 24 hours in advance on the computer I have been lucky to up grade to first class most of the times.other than that I have never had a center seat. I wish they would get some 777's but with their longest flights being to Hawaii I guess the 737-800 ans 900 serve their needs. All Boeing fleet too.
This was an awesome video but I agree with toni. that trip could have been an expensive one. If caught by FAA it can be more than 2500.00 + ticket. I use to be a flight attendant so I know first hand. FAA does not give you the ticket on the plane, they wait for you to get on the jet bridge and that ticket my friend doesn't go away. I hope the trip was fun though. :).
I love Alaskan Airlines but riding any 737NG for anything over 3 hours and it sucks. Really wish Alaska would use 763/772 I'm sure they're relatively cheaper to buy these day or perhaps they could go all out and buy the 787-8/9. I used to fly Alaskan a lot because I lived in Alaska moved to the South and pretty much stuck with Delta. Last year I went to Kona. Flew to HNL on Delta from ATL on a 744 in business class. What an amazing 9hrs that was. That aircraft has since been replaced with the A332. Going to miss those 744's. Seems like every airline is dropping the queen of the sky in favor of twin-jets.
Nice video - looks like a great first class experience. People have to remember that this isn't an intercontinental jet - really what do you need a flatbed for n a five hour flight? Anyway I thought this was a nice representation on the service on board and the approach into Kihue was brilliant
Norwegian Airlines flies with B737-800 from Europe to Newark. British Airways flies with an A319, all business class, from London City to New York via Shannon!
Now please remember that Alaska Airlines only flies the 737 jets which in my opinion are too small for long distance flights ie Hawaii. They fill up the economy section and squeeze us all in like sardines. The 1st class is really not all that grand either. You have to walk through the 1st class section in order to get to the economy section. The leg room is a little more and it is two people on each side. Alaska Airlines is the cheapest way to fly to Hawaii if you can afford a little more fly Hawaiian Airlines, they offer free meals and fly BIG planes that are way more comfortable and also way less turbulence due to the trade winds in the pacific ocean.
Flying Miner Those aircraft are no longer in production. Anyway, the 757's that American, Delta and United fly on the same routes are even worse, because they are just as narrow, but longer. Domestic business/first is basically the same as premium economy in wide body international cabins.
Flying Miner 757 is a single-aisle aircraft just like the 737-800. Both aircraft are nearly identical. Many airlines are replacing their aging 757's with 737-800's.
Hawaiian WILL be using the new narrowbody A321NEO/LR from the west coast and potentially even PHX in coming years. Most likely the places you see 767 service now will have A321's however I'm sure brand new planes and hawaiian's service will make up for them being narrowbodies

When I flew from Hnl to Sea, they did not have the Korean BBQ meal, only the pork and rice. It was less than inspiring, some shredded pork, packet of soy sauce and a few vegetables with plain white rice. It was a good flight however.
I don't understand how people are saying crap about alaska first class to Hawaii! Alaska is the best airline! The service is wonderful and they won the jd power award in customer service over seven years in a row! That should say something! and flying from the west coast to Hawaii on a 737 is not bad! AA UA VA flys 737's across the ocean so whats the problem? I flew on a 757 from NY to Europe! That was crazy! The onlything I will say is that I wish Alaska will put blankets and pillows in first class on long flights! The food was good! when I flew HA i was not impressed with the little coach pillows in first class and the food was not that great!. #IAMALASKA
I love Alaska but it really is nothing special in first class... in fact it's almost a necessity to fly first class on Alaska on most of their 737's if you are doing anything over an hour. Their planes are way too cramped up.
I fly home all the time in PHX to HNL usually in Hawaiian's first. This first looked much better, On Hawaiian you have meals not served on plates like how 1st had used to be, now they cram in as many seats in a small space and hardly any 1st seats available for purchase. On Hawaiian. I think I'm gioing home next on ALK AIrlines.

Get real. Many of you want a 747 with "lay-flat sleeper seats" for a 5 hour flight to Hawaii? But you all demand cheap tickets....can't have both!! Alaska Airlines is the best Airline out there!!
Eh, I fly AA and from what I see in this video, AA's First Class is much better. Well, their Airbus jets are nice. Sometimes they put me in their older boeing aircraft and well, its no where near as nice as Airbus.
AGREED! I prefer Hawaiian but as far as I know they don't fly to Anchorage from the Islands? That makes this the ONLY sane way for an Australian to get to Alaska - Sydney / Honolulu / Anchorage and you're there in no time. Why would you want to fly to Seattle or wherever and then on to Anchorage?
I'm pretty sure that flying in First Class to Hawaii on a Boeing 737-800 is nice but for the rest of us in coach, it's pretty miserable! I've flown to Hawaii from Southern California on a 737-800 and it was not comfortable! These single-aisle aircraft are designed for short hops across the country and definitely not for a 5+ hour non-stop flight across the Pacific Ocean. I prefer to fly on larger twin aisle aircraft like the Boeing 767, 777 or Airbus A330, A340. My preference is Hawaiian Airlines Airbus A330.
As I was about to post my comment on how I'd never get on a 737 across an ocean... I saw yours. Couldn't have said it better! Fortunately for me, I can hop on a Hawaiian A330 in NYC at 9am and be on the beach with a Mai tai or other similarly tropical drink (with an umbrella of course!) in my hand in plenty of time to watch the sunset! Hawaiian rocks, but I'd be willing to give AS a try! Nice video man!
DJRosco82 One thing I forgot to mention was that it took longer to get to Hawaii on a Boeing 737-800 because it has smaller engines than the twin aisle aircraft. It was only longer by 30 minutes but when your Mai Tai is waiting then you want to get there as soon as possible!
+Kevin P as someone who 90 percent of the time they fly, they fly on 737s (Alaska, Southwest, and Delta are main airlines in PDX, WN flies only 737s while Delta and Alaska fly mostly 737s) I can agree. It's never fun to do a 6 hour flight on a cross country route. So much cheaper usually, but Hawaiian is great (767s) just for the sake of comfort.
I can't help laughing at how North Americans go on about a 5 hour flight as though it's a long time! The only places we Aussies can get to in 5 hours are New Zealand or Indonesia - neither is ever going to appear on my bucket list. As a friend recently said "Honolulu in 9 hours 24 minutes? Great, a short flight!"
well, this is not an international flight. Most airlines in the US use these aircrafts for domestic flights only. So since Hawaii is a state, it is considered Domestic, not international.
The only first class that I've flown, that I found better that Alaska was Cathy Pacific. I've not flown Singapore, Emirate's or Swiss, which I've been told are superior. My wife, who is handicapped, has been always given special treatment by Alaska, even in coach. I can't say that more most other US carriers if used.
The new 737 is about the same size as the old 707 that were flown on these routes in the 1960's. But, so are the 757's flown by the majors (American, Delta, United). There just isnt room for the kind of first or business class cabins found on the larger planes used mostly on international routes. Hawaiian has 767's and A330's, but still only domestic style first class. Both Alaska and Hawaiian do have a "spirit", like Western had that the majors cant match.
When you're told nicely, and legally, to turn off your cellphone, KEEP IT OFF until you're told to turn it back on! BEHAVE! You were using this device precisely when you were asked quite nicely not to. The flight attendants are DOING THEIR JOB and you are making it harder.
If you fly Alaska Air and you're a big person not fat just large, coach is the worst place to be seated. They only have one aisle and if you have other large people in your row, you are cramped period and for five hours and that sucks. I know because I flew coach from HNL to Anchorage and I had no breathing room at all... The 737 is too small to be flying over the Pacific for five hours, I'll never fly them again. It's not fair to penalize larger people for whom dieting is not an option because they just have a larger skeletal frame, I'm not talking about those who are obese
They added more seats to increase their profits nevermind the comfort of the travelers who happen to be tall, large, with long legs. I was seated next to two younger guys with athletic builds (not body builders) and we were in each other's space. I've never been that cramped before and I used to fly on the 737s for short runs. Now airlines are considering extra charge for aisle seats or seats in the bulkhead area, just because you're a large person with long legs
+Matt B you get used to it. Did Alaska from PDX to Puerto Vallarta on a 737-800, also PDX-ATL on a Delta 737 and CAN to LAX on a Delta 737...not horrible but definitely not the best.
