That looks like the perfect day for fishing too. I’ve been out to Seals Rock in Alaska fishing for halibut. Great time because the weather was nice. I used to fish commercially in Florida. I was the first to get sea sick every time. (8) surgeries on my (R) ear never helped me on the ocean. I still went out though. I could never handle the Seas in Alaska. You might as well add me to one of the bait traps, I’d die in 20’-30’ Seas! Thanks for sharing your experience with The World.

What does a processor do? SUFFER! If your watching this video wondering what it's like you need to understand that you will be standing all day doing repetitive tasks the whole time. Have some music available. You will get swollen wrists from so much movement...it will subside. It's hard to work now for money later but the hard work is worth it if you get with a decent company....not trident. I fished with fca aka fishing company of alaska for 5 years i fished on the ak victory and the ak juris rip. I know I'm unusual for looking into this sort of thing, but I'm a small business owner, freelance photographer/videographer. I might be interested in taking a break from what I do and getting into this for a 75 day season, because I'm tired of staring at a computer screen, scrolling on my phone, being addicted to the digital life, etc. I've gotten flabby and weak from sitting at a computer all day when I'm not out shooting. I make decent money right now, but my neck is crooked and my belly is fat. I've been wondering what kind of physical outdoor jobs I can do, not as a permanent career thing, but just to take a break from my comfortable life. I want to get away from a 24/7 internet connection and work in the outdoors. Away from computer screens and social media. People tell me working on a fishing boat is good money. I know it's hell and not fun, but that's the point. I might want a challenge like this. I feel weak and want to make myself stronger.

Been doing this since Summer 2016....it's worth it ....I'm fr South Central the peace alone enhances the whole experience....if you're not good on the boats or vessels start at a processing plant on land then work your way onto a vessel....like any job you have your bad days n moments but just focus on what you are there for and learn as much as you can; and also share what you learn with your family and friends....teach you a lot esp about the proper grade fish we put in our bodies...teaches you what to look for and how to shop...the pay is worth it too

@@mirphus7413 I don’t blame ya I want out of retail too. Been working retail for 5 years now that might not be considered long either for some people. But it feels like a decade I like to work hard which I can do in retail but the customers and sometimes coworkers make it more stressful. Especially when you have coworkers in cliques that leave you out of everything it feels like High school all over again. But I’m sure cliques can be at every job.

@ryancentnarowicz mate, that's literally what I'm dealing with right now. A lot of asinine bs going on at my current job that just makes it feel like inane petty high school drama. All my co-workers (the 4 other people i work with mind you) all act like best friends inside and outside of work. But yet they leave me completely in the dark with everything. They all say they care and like me, but at the same time it feels like I'm not wanted there. I've tried talking about it several times with the chick that keeps pullin the crap with me. But she just tells me to "go away" 90% of the time I'm there whether it's work related or not. Makes work a lot more difficult to deal with than it needs to be. And we have a lot of downtime at our work.

Seen your comment and wanted to respond. Come from a long line of family fisherman, my mom was the first female to consider doing it and did it. She worked for the commercial fishing industry for decades. There’s other women on the boats. Yeah you can feel outnumbered by the men but you all kind of become close knit. Like a family. If it’s something you’re interested in but the only fear holding you back is being the only woman, I say face that fear. The part that intimidated me the most and why I never went was the fact you’re stuck out at sea away from everyone and little to no contact with the outside world. Couldn’t leave my husband and kids. Almost took the flight but backed out. But my mom did it and is still tryin to get use to life on land lol She seemed to really like her career with American seafoods. It has its pros and cons and takes a strong willed person to do this kind of work. It can be mentally and physically taxing but everyone I’ve known through my mom including my mom are glad they did it and had the experience. I hope that helped. Take care 💪🤍

The fishing vessel I was on for this company called ' O'Hara Corporation ' on the F/T DEFENDER boat there was one girl on there everything was all good, no problems. We would all just joke around just like anyone else. But she wasn't doing what we were doing since I think she had some type of degree on something...she was like I guess doing something with the computer on how much fish we were processing. Like data I guess or something, or other stuff idk what. But yeah she had a bunk somewhere else near the captain since that where she was at, but she would eat with us and wake up with us for breakfast.

@Cross Repents i think i was averaging about 2800 every 2 weeks. $13 for your first 8 hours and 19.5 for the last 8 doing 16 hour shifts. you make overtime every single day. and anything over 40 hours in a week is $19.50 for the entire 16 hour shift. which is easy, consider 1/2 through the 3rd day in a week you hit your 40 so.
@issaredneck758
@issaredneck758 2 года назад
@Cross Repents totally worth it, i have another manufacturing job now building air conditioners and i work 8 hour shifts and it’s a vacation compared to alaska so it makes you appreciate a “normal” job. the work is easy it’s just repetitive asf and it gets old but the paycheck keeps you goin, the freezer position however isn’t anything i’d recommend to anybody. this past season i had frost in my eyelashes and eyebrows in minutes. got brain freeze in about 10-15 mins. but, each struggle is only temporary, ya feel me? living conditions are very ehh. bunk beds, 4 people to a room, there’s a little store you can use payroll deduction as currency at for soap and candy, soda, noodles, and most necessities. the cafe feeds you 3x a day, 5x-6x a day during production cus you get a break every 4 hours and you eat, while still getting meals. most meals are pretty basic with koolaid or coffee to drink and rice will be in each meal. tbh, coming from georgia, US, 10/10 man. builds character and gives you appreciation for what you have at home.
