This the most heart wrenching thing I’ve seen in a long time. When she called for her baby to a silent cold ocean and no response came back. She even got back in the water to look for her baby knowing she could be eaten. It is a mother’s love and a mother’s pain.
Its probably not the first time she's lost a baby to a predator. This happens all the time in nature. But she'll go back into heat very quickly now that her baby is gone and she'll forget. All mammals are protective of their young. But they also forget them very quickly once they are gone.
You got to separate the mammalian attachment and look at it from the practical side of the situation. I mean it is sad but our own species die and suffer ever single day and very much in the same vein, might I add. Natural selection hasn’t stopped. It just took on a new guise and name. S
I was recommended a video where a bunch of otters at a zoo violently drown a monkey that was picking on them. After that this was in the recommendations. What the heck youtube XD
+John Dough four things are immediately apparent from your one liner: you're sadistic, you need attention, you hate women and you have a thing for burly men.
+Keel Willyams This reminds me of all the Mom cows who have their babies taken away within 24 hours of birth. All so her milk that she makes for her baby can be stolen by another species of animal. She will call until her voice gives out. Just like this Mother will. Heartbreaking. All Mothers should be outraged.
+Keel Willyams She was calling for it, not crying for it. Don't make the mistake of planting human emotions on an animal. Think of it from their perspective, not ours. She was giving the call that all otter mothers make when their cub is out of sight. She will call in vain for a while, then give up, go back into estrus and breed again. Life goes on.
Idk why so many people are upset that they "took the situation lightly:" The fuck do you want them to do? Take the otter to counseling? I thought it was nice that they saved the mother.
And what was horrible about an Orca feeding itself so it did'nt starve to death? It may have been a mother Orca that needed sustaninice to make milk for it's baby, nothing horrible about it. It does suck for the Otter and it's mother but it's not horrible just lunch.
+CSGO CLIPS when you remember that there are parents who kill their children, I have no trouble believing the animals feel anguish over dead offspring just as deeply as humans do. I never saw an animal kill it's own offspring. I don't think I ever even hears of it happening.
wilson blauheuer No no, that's not true, there is lots of fuckery in nature. Some birds have two chicks with the intention of only raising one, but having the other as a back up plan, or on the chance that it's an abundant food year. So the other chick dies, as it was always going to. Nature is super cruel, but that is jsut how evolution works, animals also suffer deeply, like you said. It's very sad when you think about it.
the end broke my heart. she was calling for her baby, knowing she could be eaten herself but still goes out to try find her. we don't deserve animals, they are too good for us ❤️❤️. Had me crying
@Jacob Tyler Trust me, I know. I worked in that industry for years. I needed to work, or I would never have worked there. It messes with your head, knowing you are looking into the eyes of an animal and realizing that in a matter of days or weeks, that animal is going to be killed because someone wants to eat it.
@Jacob Tyler I saw too many walking to their deaths, and although I didn't kill any myself, I did see the fear in their eyes... they knew what was coming. Mortality is one of the hardest things to face. It takes a certain mindset to do that (dispatching live animals). That's why I'm glad I worked the scales
Thank you for being kind people, wild nature has more emotional intelligence than we give them credit for. There was something about you guys that made both the whale and the otter feel welcome. What amazing footage. Congrats, what an experience!
nah thats why human can't interfere with nature, what if the whale is starved and also have baby to feed? vice versa poor for the whales the otter escaped.
@@Spyro117 Legit. The only reason Dogs and cats “understand” us is because they’re use to it and have been tamed for years. There’s a part of the brain called “Reptile brain” or whatever it’s name is. Scientists say it’s a part of other survival instincts. Because when it gets activated any other part of the brain shuts off (not the walking breathing etc part of course) and the reptile brain gets in full control. There’s 3 options to choose from. First there’s Flight. Second there’s Fight. And third there’s still. Depending on what type of person you are one of these things will be more likely to be chosen
@@rational_skeptic98 She wasn't crying out of fear for herself. He misinterpteted her callng out for her baby, as being afraid of the orca. If he wanted her to stay on board he shouldn't have tried to pet her.
it’s an animal sweety and therefore they have no emotional attachment to their children or to anything for that matter, they are merely driven by instinct and will just mate to make more otters
@@chuckbuckbobuck True, but one might say that, as humans, we are in a unique position, where we can actually choose if we want to kill to survive. There is nothing wrong with eating little to no meat, it's simply a matter of choice. That's our prerogative, as sentient beings. Going against what nature planned for us is our whole history.
@@dedale2610 I can't say I disagree with you but I do eat meat on a mostly daily. What I find abhorrent are people who waste aninal flesh. If we are going to kill animala for our protein need then we shoulld never waste their sacrifice. I have always made sure my kids clean their plate and not waste food. We are a country of wastrels and if didn't waste so much animal protein we would slaughter a lot less animals. I abhor people who waste food. It is not honoring the animals involuntary sacrifice for humans. Terrible!
@@dedale2610 Yeah its just the holier than thou attitudes that people have when they start talking about how they changed how they eat. I can understand why people become vegetarian because they dont want to eat meat, but vegans are dumb af. Becoming vegan seems more like somebody trying to get moral highground over other people so they can tell them how they are slaughtering animals
@the real gollum I think we need to extend our public registry of sexual predators to protect aquatic mammals.. Gollum should not be allowed to live within a 100 mile radius of any body of water...
@@TheVoid100 Actually it was retarded. The fact that we value human life more than other animals, has absolutely nothing to do with someone having compassion towards other sentient beings.
sad to see that she lost her pup, but good on the lads for helping her out. she would have been eaten by the orcas if the boat was not there for safety. thanks for looking out for her.
+Anita Lied What was illegal? They usually leave the pups awed to seaweed or leave them on boats & People mistake them for being abandoned & in those instances it's illegal to remove the Pups. It's illegal to move pups away from a site but not illegal for a Mother or even a Mother & Pup to jump on the back of Your boat. Because in those instances, the animals did this, not the Human. She chose to get on the boat. You see the difference? It's not a Wildlife Crime. It only would have been Human Intervention if He threw Her off the boat, to Her death. She already made the decision to jump onto the boat Herself.
good it thought of its mum as it got crunched , might even have made the same squeek she made when calling her baby .....but it wanted her so bad when those teeth crunched down on its soft babyish skin.. muum ... baby otter ...wonder what ther elast gaze at each other was? u think they remember each other?
Josh Powell I just wish the baby made it too. ------------- NATURE IS NOT NOR HAS IT EVER. BEEN A FREAKING DISNEY MOViE..... Nature can and often is cruel. See your face in the mirror and you will know what I'm talking about.
Wow that was amazing footage! I really feel for the mother otter, but she was very lucky to be alive. And good job to the guy who helped out that sea otter. Just be very careful when u interfere with a killer whale and it's pray!
Thank you so much for a beautiful job of filming, it warms the heart to see such things on video. You were so gentle with the poor otter and I was glad to see she could be so tame.
The love I have for animals..that broke my heart hearing her call and look under water for her baby..poor mama. Thanx for saving her..!! The circle of life.... its sad...but it is what it is..whales gotta eat too.
Animals do feel grief... It just depends on if they are in survival mode or not as to what they do in that moment. My Siamese cat lived to be 21 years old... and would've probably lived another 4 years easily, at least... maybe more... but his 'wife' was given away when I was in the military, or ran away, or was killed... never got the full story on that one and what little I was told ( given away ) was probably a lie. Never got an e-mail address or anything to check up... Anyways, the son, who was only 14 which was the one we kept, the others we gave to good homes.. ended up with a clot in his back either from jumping and hitting his back while we were getting groceries, or a clot simply developed / moved and blocked an artery... His entire rear was numb and cold. The vet said he wasn't in any pain so we didn't put him to sleep. Vet said he would die within a few days and there was nothing which could be done. He lasted 2 days and we did everything for him and never left him alone. Gave him the best food and anything he wanted. Let him lay outside in sun and kept him company. After he died, we had him cremated. but the father outlived his son, and maybe the wife?? not sure on that.. and I think one of the others died too... but he was there with his son. After his son died, he kept his body company for about 12+ hours until we had him picked up to be cremated. After that, he fell into a deep depression and didn't want to do anything anymore. He was grieving his son and he was just so sad. This was an outdoor cat for his entire 21 years and he knew to avoid cars. Never did anything to endanger his life in regards to machinery. He lived in several countries during his life. United States x2 properties, Canada, and Germany x2 properties. Always on a good diet, always cared for... was an amazing lap kitty too. He would sit like a human and meow when he wanted something. Incredibly intelligent. He committed suicide shortly after his son died by laying under my step-fathers car tire. Something he has never done in the past ( the under the car tire... obviously... ) as he only visited from time to time. He visited while I was at school and left before I came back... He died pretty quickly apparently. Not sure if this is the truth either. But, everyone around him was dying... outliving his son by 7 years is quite a lot, especially in cat years. He was alone aside from us. Even though we tried everything to be there for him; he was just depressed and was tired. I completely understand. I highly doubt it was an accident simply because of how intelligent he was, the fact he lived in multiple countries and was always an outdoor cat and always came home without ever having an issue. Many animals show emotion, personality, etc.. they grieve.. if a child is in danger they rush to their assistance. Animals will also rescue other animals so they understand when another is in trouble and needs help, help that they can provide and they do... so they can empathize. There are common ancestors which did have emotions - so it is highly unlikely it is purely learned behavior from just watching humans.
Also, I think the mama looking at the boater and then back towards where they came from... I think she wanted the person to turn around and go back in case the baby survived. She didn't want to leave the area until all hope was lost.... that is likely what she was trying to get across. Also, sound does carry over water so she was probably trying to direct her baby towards them... a dual purpose message... The human may have seen the baby get eaten, but she may not have....
The first time I teared up in years I can count on one hand how many times in my entire life I’ve ever teared up but this broke my heart so much I want ready for this.
+Salish-sea There's every chance They haven't. Since the Pup is so small. Hopefully the Pup can find His/Her way back to Her safely :( It was the Mama They were after not the pup
This video is one of very few videos that makes me emotional. I got tears, and it is very rare for me to get tears by merely watching a short clip (i have been thinking that my emotional feelings were gone already for ~5 years, but it is not true after all)
That is so good n so sad all n one . I hope she has more babies to replace the one she lost. Those wailings make your heart ache. Filled with pain n desperation n her voice.
+Paul Avery - That is exactly what I heard/interpreted at the end. A mother literally wailing in anguish over the fear that she has lost her child. I don't know how anyone can interpret it any differently.
Wakinyan- where did you hear that they only have one litter in their lifetime? It seems like that state-of-affairs would pretty much optimize for the extinction of that species. Given evolutionary theory, how could this possibly be the case?
I had seen a documentary someplace on RU-vid explaining how we got the name "Killer Whale." It was quite interesting. "Killer Whale" is supposed to be "Whale Killer" because of the Spanish it came from (I can't remember the phrase, though). Thought I would just pass it along.
Wikipedia: "According to some authors, the name killer whale is a mistranslation of the 18th century Spanish name asesina-ballenas which means literally whale killer.[16] Basque whalers would have given it such name after observing pods of orcas hunting baleen whales."
The killer whale isn't a whale. It's the world's largest dolphin species. That may explain why you see them swimming around boats a lot.Talk about these guys being in the right place at the right time. They seem to like the taste of a great white once in a while.
QAQ the poor mom and baby. The mom was scared and looking for her baby before she got on the boat and the cry she was making when crying for her baby just broke my heart. Thanks for letting her get on your boat and keeping her safe
pedro Pérez809 no they suffer more infact they are on the run every day form the moment they are born, because of preditors and us we dont have any preditors
What an amazing thing to witness! My daughter and I just watched it. I was worried she'd get too upset (she's got a lot of sympathy for others, a trait inherited from her mom and grandma) and start bawling her eyes out as she has for other videos.
+ffp08 No. You were given life by God. What you are experiencing is life in this reality. You might have a sense of oneness with all that is, but do not identify yourself as the universe lol. You are still a person with a soul
Mexican Muffin You're entitled to your opinion but dont judge others that dont share your views. You cannot disprove the existence of God yet still believe God does not exist.... with no proof. So your views require faith... therefore you too have a religion, called atheism.
This is devastating! I feel so bad for the mother 😭 After knowing her baby was gone she still was praying for a miracle to happen.. I don’t understand why people suddenly are hating on Orcas for this Not be rude or anything but nature is a system- prey and predator.. with out prey the predators wouldn’t have any food and they could die and with out predators the prey population would over grow and the system would be unbalanced If you hate orcas because they killed on otter well you should hate the human kind as well- Cause believe it or not we kill and eat otters Search it up if you don’t believe Anyways- don’t being rude or anything Just sharing my opinion 😄
lets not forget that mama also looks for things smaller than her to eat alive. it's the world she lives in, but I'm so glad the guy with the kind soul helped her keep her life.. thanks Jake!
@@therock-yr8tk where did you get your information? According to wikipedia "Population estimates made between 2004 and 2007 give a worldwide total of approximately 107,000 sea otters". In fact I don't have recent informations but I think they can't be 3000.
Anyone who says animals don't feel loss is a fool. At the same time if humans intervene in everything nothing will be wild. Nature must take it's course
She’s whale food. Not that moment but hours or days or weeks later. Prey rarely ever live to life expectancy or at least not in the sense that we know. In captivity they may outlast us, just a wild guess.
91lifetime23 right, she was already leaving and she wasn’t going to stay on the boat forever. She was out of danger so it was time to go and see if her baby was around.
You are A RUSSIAN ASSET..only a imbecile would relate the natural cycle of nature to anything in the human world.. astounding..but if there should be a comparison it should be how weak minded you are and that nature will wipe u out
As a new mom to a 4 months old daughter the last bit really got me, and I didnt even have the sound on.. Glad to read in the comments that even grown ass men cried.. :) Poor baby.
