This week we take a break from snow maintenance and give the outhouse some much needed upgrades. Insulation to keep the freezing wind out and a remote start diesel heater supplied by Vevor to help warm things up 🔥

Those little diesel heaters are coming more common on homesteads. Seem to work very well! Keep up the content! Enjoy watching you guys!

If you follow or contact Eric and Arielle @Simple Living Alaska , theyve been off-grid in Alaska for a number of years now and moved from maybe Wassilla area to up near TOK a year ago. He has done several of those diesel heaters for different projects. A truly likeable couple who will have zero hesitation in helping you troubleshoot.

Good morning, great job. After watching several channels on homesteading, off grid, etc. I wanted to mention that from what they said critters will haul away pink/soft insulation for their nests. Hopefully you can find a more permanent solution before next winter but the heater had to happen. Stay warm spring is coming.

He’s planning on blocking it in with wood long term but right now all our 2x4’s are buried under ice and few feet of snow. Hopefully the birds and squirrels don’t take off with it before spring.

Great job. Don't be too hard on yourselves on the way you do things. It looks good from here. That was a lesson my husband kept telling me when I didn't think everything looked perfect on youtube. He always told me..."Do you, and no one else"....😂 Easier said, then done. We love your content.

Who cares what it looks like!! It's an outhouse! At least it'll be warmer. Worry about the looks when you get to it. 😮

I want to retire in the Talkeetna area. We rented a nice cabin on a lake there, no neighbors no noise. Was perfect, first time in many years I slept all through the night . 😊

Temporary fix to the outhouse shall be ok, Spring is just around the corner folks and you'll have heat , doesn't matter what it looks like it will do until you can fix it. Id put a foam toilet seat on it ( blue foam is warm). Nice work you won't want to leave it lol. That is a good heater . see ya on the next one folks .

Also on the exhaust where you screwed it to the wood wall, I would take a piece of the concrete backer board you used around your fireplace and screw that to the wall then screw the exhaust to that. Could help prevent a fire.

I can't imagine trying to do my business with the wind whipping through those cracks. This should make you both much more comfortable. Do you plan to do plumbing in the house at some point?
@ouralaskahomestead
@ouralaskahomestead 4 месяца назад
Yes, in the next few weeks or so we will start putting together the bathroom. Over the summer we will get all the pipes under the house run and hook into the spring to hopefully have running water.

The way it’s designed it has to sit. Wall Mount option would be nice.

You make a mess and waste a lot stuff
@ouralaskahomestead
@ouralaskahomestead 4 месяца назад
Actually this is the exact opposite of wasting materials. Every piece was repurposed from a previous project. Yes, when you’re doing construction there is usually mess. We always clean up afterwards.
