Have you considered planting cork trees around your property? My understanding is that they are highly fire resistant and act as a fire retardant...Might be a boon to your area. You might want to speak to whatever local agencies manage the land. Hope that's a helpful suggestion. Let me know if you decide to follow up on it! On another tack, mules are excellent watch animals. :D Best wishes.

You can’t just get one donkey, they need a friend. You’ll need 2 donkeys or a sheep or goat to be a donkeys friend. They are pack animals. If alone they get depressed .

We put up a wind and solar system at our ranch in San Diego CA. We had a 3 prop windmill that we put up complete with a pulley system to lower it for maintenance. It would whirl all day from the coastal breeze. We had 12 large solar panels on our south facing roof. We had a battery back up system in a cabinet in our garage for those rainy overcast days. We had so much energy we were sending the excess back to SDG&E almost on a daily basis. We paid just over $9.00 a month for our hook-up meter to SDG&E to run our 3,600 square foot house, our deep well, our large swimming pool with it's pump and heating system and our electric horse fencing. We had 6 to 8 people living in our home. It was sooo COOL!

From a little Google search..it looks like the nest Joao uncovered is a nest of Ground Bees which are great pollinators, generally not aggressive and do not produce honey. The new land is spectacular! What an exciting next step in your farm plans❤🌈❤ Can't wait to travel along this new leg of your journey!!🙌🥰💙

In Seattle you can rent a herd of goats for the day to come clear your brush! They just happily munch away and then go home. Honestly your new land could use a few hungry visitors! 😂

Goat herd rental for clearing land is in Wisconsin too. They say it is also great for the goats because it gives the goats different varieties of brambles, etc to eat.

One of the best animals for land management is the European Bison, they will eat the Brambles and brush, not the wildflowers and do not damage trees, compact or cut up the soil due to their large feet spreading their weight. They are used to manage Ancient Woodland in England, kept where needed by electronic fences and radio collars.

I know you wanted that land and I’m happy he agreed to sell it as he didn’t need it. Goats are less selective about what they eat than donkeys, are good at land clearing, but difficult to contain. Donkeys and goats are both sweet beings if treated well. My little girl wanted a goat, but I knew it would get to the neighbor’s roses, etc., so we got ponies instead.

@@cre8tvedge yes, but it is a lot of work if you don’t want to and then there are the goat kids born. There is always cruelty involved, diseases, veterinary expenses, fencing, food, shelter and some heartache. Plus when traveling, competent care for when they are away. A donkey would be better.

Hi I am a real estate appraiser here in the states..keep in mind that the electric company who owns those wires/lines have a right to the property under the lines and a certain distance out from them.. you may need to check with them about location of your solar panels being near their wires?

My favorite movie is Out of Africa. For some reason when Obi jumped on that rock and I could see past the rock I flashed on the ending of the movie where they buried Denys...that the Lion and Lioness were seen there at morning and night...Karen said "Denys would like that". What a view you will have!! Your property has grown into a beautiful setting for you to raise your family and John's lawn continues to look like a park!! Quite an undertaking but we'll worth all the work!! Congratulations!!

Personally and I am no expert but I think they are Carpenter bees. If you ever uncover a ground nest, it is recommended that you place a temp cover over the area if in direct sunlight. I uncovered a bumble bee next entrance and just stuck a plant pot upside down with a rock under the lip to give access. Several hours later it was all mended good as new. Congratulations on the land area, no doubt a huge addition to the farm and continued summer employment for Joao

With the addition of your new tract of land will that mean that you will be allowed more buildings on your land because the proportions have changed? Will that at least mean that you can keep the stone house addition and not be concerned about having to tear it down once the main house is built? This is great news. We are very happy for you guys. Looking forward to seeing what you eventually do with the new property. Love the idea of implementing solar panels. Some sort of cozy lookout (with an outdoor bar) on those rocks for an awesome view might be nice. It looks like you don't need a permit to cut down trees on your property. Here in Toronto, we need a permit from the city to do that and it takes forever to get it approved.

Oh my gosh! Huge congratulations! The new land is absolutely stunning. Imagine 5 years from now. The boys will be exploring and building forts. So much potential. Kudos Tara for no fear with the bees. I googled them. They look like bees of Washington. They apparently are common now. We have over 460 species of bees in British Columbia. I haven't seen one this summer yet, though. Not many wasps, either. Bees are so interesting and productive. I call them Little Spirit Givers!❤ On the upside, I did have a hummingbird moth in my garden this year. So cool! Best wishes, and I am over the moon so happy for you all.❤

Thrilled for you with the purchase of the beautiful land. We use “rental” goats in No. Nevada to clear brush. Also, maybe carpenter bees 🤷🏻‍♀

A couple of years ago I stumbled across a you tube channel called Jeff Horchoff Bees. Attached to an Abbey in Louisiana US, he has more than 150 hives at present. Because watching his channel (he is actually called ED), was so relaxing and always made me smile, I got totally interested in bees and got my own hives. I highly recommend you watch his channel as it is a huge learning curve about bees, extracting honey and treating the wax to a usable state, from a genuinely nice guy and his sidekick 'Goodtime Charlie'. I also planted blueberries near the hives - the honey is out of this world!!!

Goats are very good at keeping land clear. Give the land natural fertilizer. And you could milk the goats to make cheese or other such products.
