You know a town is amazing if you still love it even when it rains.. Well, Seward is just that town! ❤️ Unfortunately, we had "typical" alaskan weather while in Seward, which means lots of rain, but we still had a blast in Seward. While RV'ing through the Kenai Peninsula, Seward was one of our favorite spots to stay. Little did we know that Seward is a place for foodies and outdoorsy people just the same. We loved eating at Thron's Showcase Lounge & The Cookery. I think the cookery might have had the best Halibut in all of Alaska.
During our time in Seward we were able to hike Exit Glacier Hike and but we didn't make it up to the Harding Ice Field.. Looks like next time we'll need to make more time for that hike. So long for now for RV living and Vanlife.. We'll be back soon!
Thanks for watching! You guys rock :) - Scott & Collette

This was my old home town for like 4 years I lived in Seward. The Halibut bites are good but it sure doesn't beat fresh halibut from a fishing charter and that deckhand fillets it for you and you cook it. That is even better and oh yes, try Halibut cheeks. Even better! That is the sweetest part of the fish itself. YUM! Boy, do I ever miss the coffee there at the Resurrection Art Coffee house! That coffee is amazing! Oh yes and FYI, all of the art you see there is in fact for sale. The Alaska SeaLife center is great but, I do not know if they still have it but when you book a tour with them they used to have a behind the scenes tour where they take you into their labs and show you the operation behind the scenes and you get to interact with the Marine scientists and research folks to really get that greater idea of what the Sea Life center is all about. Oh and might I recommend also trying Halibut Burritos. They are to die for! One thing that I did was work in the tour and travel industry there. I did work for a few hotels and was a booking agent for a while so I could have steered ya all in getting a copy of the MilePost magazine. That is Alaskas tour and travel bible! One thing you MUST try out is the Iditaride. That is run by the Seavy family and they basically pick you all up and take you to their facilities and you go Dog sledding. This is how Mitch Seavy who is an Iditarod Champion, this is how his family keeps their dog teams in great shape for the Iditarod Race. Ok so also, you could have gone out on the Major Marine boat tours of resurrection bay where you can go whale watching and also watch the caving glaciers. Then of course the real highlight of any trip, Godwin Glacier tours. That was always the rave of any trip I ever heard of. 100 % of everyone who took this trip LOVED IT! Here's what they all do out of Seward, Aalaska. They come and pick you up in their van. You hop aboard a Helicopter then get a short flightseeing trip and then they land on Godwin Glacier across Resurrection bay where they keep dog kennels. Then you deboard and they take you out dog sledding. Then you break for lunch and they give you information about the digs and the Iditarod. Then more dog sledding and the flightseeing trip back where they bring you back. 100% of everyone who I knew took that trip said it was absolutely THE highlight of their vacation. It is a bit spendy though. Over $300 per person but SO worth it!ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0khRFe4_uAA.html

Awww! We just got back from Seward, visiting family and it was amazing. We actually stayed in an apartment just across the street from Thorns with an amazing view. During our week stay and meeting some of the locals we decided to come back home, take care of some responsibilities then prepared to move to Seward. For now I am obsessively watching videos and looking at pictures of Seward.

Nice video guys. Been going to Alaska every year for 30 years now and always make my way to Seward. I just Love Seward and for twenty bucks a night can't beat that campground. I will definitely check out those restaurants I usually go to Rays and that one on the main drag can't remember the name I'm brain farting starts with an S.

I lived in Seward for 18 years. To this day the best pizza and Chinese food (kung pao halibut!) I had was there. The pizza place is closed now, and the Chinese place has gone downhill since I left. Good to know that the little town is still a foodie paradise!

@@Roamaroo it is still beautiful, but quiet.....which I feel is a bonus. I lived in North Pole, AK for three years, and Minnesota before that, so these winters feel mild to me. Most of our eating establishments and shops close during the winter, but we still have enough open for us locals. Thorns, The Cookery, and Res Art (the coffee church) all stay open. We have two movies on Friday nights at the Rae Building, and other events that bring our small town together. The hiking trails become snowshoe and cross country skiing trails. The Lost Lake trail even offers a snowmobile trail. There is still plenty to see and do :)

@@happyhorsman6398 , Youshould have seen winter in Seward in the early 80’s, if you were even born yet! As a teenager, nothing to do because fishing season was over, we spent time at the teen rec center, and drove out the highway “ on our snow machines to mile 7 to grouse lake to go ice fishing, fishermen sat in the bars spending there money! The tustemena ferry used to stop here on the way to Kodiak, now it’s Homer. Way more laid back then😉👍

Some people who live in ALASKA do not let weather stop them from doing anything. If we waited for good weather, we would never do anything. But, high winds is the only thing that will make me think twice about doing an activity.

I went to high school in Seward, grew up in Eagle River but used to go to Seward on the weekends to fish for silvers, has chan a little but it’s the only town on our Alaska road system worth seeing anymore! Kenai Peninsula and Homer is yo crowded, all tourists, you want real Alaska? Get off the road system! Kodiak, Sitka, wrangell, princ William sound and southeast Alaska by boat, that’s “real “! Simple!

Lived in seward over 8 years and I can say this place is not as magical as it might appear. What I mean is not necessarily the people but the politics and people in charge. They bendover backward for seasonal tourists but do squat for the actual locals in the summer they clean the sideways and offer a "free shuttle" in the winter they barely plow the roads and let the sidewalks pile up.

Lived in seward for 8 years. Food is not good if you compare to lower 48. Everything is overpriced and bought at Costco. Dont come to seward for food thinking it will be amazing. Only thing to do in seward is hunting and fishing.

Thanks for your feedback.. Where do you live now? Don't like the food in Seward? That's like us, local Californians, saying In & Out Burger isn't good. Right? 😀 When you can have it whenever you want, sometimes you take it for granted. I think the fresh fish in Seward was fantastic! Also, I think each destination has it's own special delicacies. 😀
