❤ That actually was something no other trapping video I’ve ever seen could have shown me. I loved the whole video. But that moment with the mitts was unreal. Such a powerful tie to the ancient ways. Traps and snares and transportation have all changed. But you are sinking your hands deep into the ancient wisdom echoing through your grandmother to her grandson. You are blessed beyond measure.

Just recently found your RU-vid channel. I'm so glad that you have chosen to follow the culture of your native people. Too many young people want to move to the big city for a different lifestyle. But, when they learn how hard it is, they often return home. Many Blessings to you and your family.

Minnesota Rancher. Another great video! Treasure those mittens! My grandma gifted me an afghan that she had made for me, long ago. A lot of love went into them mitts.

@enigmaticgwichin1630
@enigmaticgwichin1630 Год назад
Yeah it’s been a great season. I’m a few videos behind so this last one was from a couple weeks ago. Not many people trapping only when marten prices are good. Which they haven’t been in years. But if they were there would be at least 4 of us. Right now I’m the only one running a line. A few others have traps and snares set up where they haul firewood but I don’t think they would consider themselves really trapping. Back in 2016 when I picked trapping back up again I absorbed a lot of trails that had been left behind and forgotten. At one point in time every snowmachine/dog mushing trail leaving Venetie in every direction had a different family trapping it. But that was in the hay day of trapping when one lynx could bring in almost a thousand dollars and a blue fox could be 1400$.

Great vids. I was wondering what does a large Blk wolf pelt go for these days

So with wolves fur buyers pay anywhere between 100-600$ for a pelt. Then from there it has to be tanned. So that costs them 50-100$. So most tanned wolf skins I’ve seen for sale go for 500-1000$. There are a lot of factors though that go into the cost of a pelt. Thanks for asking👍

Do you have to use a snare to dispatch a Lynx? (I've never trapped so just wondering/ very uneducated in trapping)

Yeah a snare at the end of a strong 8’ pole. They go really quick, can’t really show that on RU-vid. Thanks for watching. God Bless

The 110 coninbears aren't big enough you need a120. You don't see it but they don't kill the marten they suffer till they freeze. I've tried them before only once in awhile does it kill them horrible way to die being alive freezing to death
