Nice job, you used your head and it worked out for ya. Don't worry about anyone saying your doing it wrong. My first cabin I built was 40 years ago and I didn't build it the way you should and it's still standing today and dry as ever with people living in it, My last cabin was 22 years ago and I still have it and I have a friend living in it right now. Smart, building around your woodstove. Keep going the way you are doing, you will be "BUFF" in no time, lol. Thanks for sharing

@deweyw3737
@deweyw3737 Месяц назад
The shear rate of a screw is way less then a nail. Screws are actually the worst thing you can use when building weight bearing structures. So you’re assessment is very wrong. That being said she is using the timberlok screws which do have a higher shear rate however as that green lumber drys it’s still likely to snap those screws all the same. It’s not the end of the world to use screws at all but they are not BETTER then nails. Not even close. A nail will always be better just based on weight bearing capacity.

I've been watching all your videos for the last couple of days. This one reminded me of why I went to a trainer after inheriting a property in BC with a lot of forest management needs. Life is all about lifting heavy things. Knowing how to do it properly will save you a lot of pain. My trainer taught me how to do an Olympic snatch and oh my god, how useful has that been when moving logs, rocks, and getting equipment up above my head. You have a ton of motivation which will server you quite well but learning proper lifting techniques might serve you super well.

Smart move from an old phart. Safety Glasses! Sitting on that Quad and backing up pulling that thin cable. If it snaps depending on where it snaps it could take out an eye or worse. Hint : If your winch cable is too short (which it is by a long shot) tie a rope to the top plate by drilling a hole for the rope and tie the other end to your winch cable. Also, the rope has to go at an "upward angle" from the top plate and then DOWN to your winch with the use of a 2x6 that's 10'-12' vertically half way between the winch and top plate in order to lift the wall. I sure give you credit though because you don't stop 'til it's up. I like your style and fortitude.

Go for it !! ...Do it your way. Good move on the stove. I was sweating bullets when you got under the wall with the support piece sitting on tarp. Wood on wood grabs better in that case. I would also suggest a safety addition, place a sturdy item 2' high or more under the wall so - if it goes wrong- you may be able to craw out. I survived a ceiling collapse because of a small pile on concrete blocks.

Nice work with the walls, if you had put a long 2" 4 next to the supports on the floor in which you broke the winch's line with a block, then you would have had a lift, so it looks like an upside-down V, here in Sweden we put a 2" 2 horizontally on the inside so you get a space for electricity and an extra layer of insulation before you put the wall board, that might be an idea for you, of course you get a little less surface inside but it might be worth waking up to 3-5 degrees warmer indoors in winter. Nice to see that the construction is progressing and nice stove you got hold of, looking forward to the next video

I'm very much not looking forward to doing this exact same thing (lifting up the framed walls) at the place I'm building. Heading out there next weekend. 2x6, 16' walls. Just the window & door framings were getting heavy on their own. Full 16' walls are going to suck. Was hoping the small rental place about 30 mins away would have wall jacks. Nope. They do not. Hopefully the ATV winch with a snatch block up high in the nearest tree option works. Likely doing it alone as well. 'Might' be able to round up a relative that's essentially a load bearing mammal to help out. Maybe. Some lady I was talking to a few weeks ago asked when I was planning on having it completed. I said, "Uhhh. Last year?" 😄 You got it done though. Sheer determination. Congrats on the progress.

Very well done young lady. That short winch cable is your biggest problem. And the pulling cable SHOULD NEVER be flat on the surface of the wall because if it is then instead of pulling the far end up, you are pulling it horizontally. Try getting an extra (thick) rope on the end of the cable and attach an upright where the rope is and route the cable over that. You will probably have to stop, brace the top of the wall to stop it falling back down, slacken the rope and reset the pole and do it again. As they say, "Rinse and Repeat". Once the rope is at least a foot above the base of the wall when attached to the quad AND TAUGHT WITHOUT A POLE you should be OK to just pull it into place. NOT TRYING TO BE NASTY AT ALL but what you are doing is called "rigging" and it is a science that normally takes an apprentice 5 years of supervised training to learn under supervision before he MIGHT be able to do the job unsupervised. It can also be VERY DANGEROUS - AND TO HELL WITH THE SAFETY AUTHORITIES, it is YOUR SAFETY that most of us out here are worried about. Just keep on keeping on and just being YOU.

Hopefully no vapor barrier won't be an issue down the road. You are doing a great job to reach your dreams and you chose one of the best stoves out there. Please over kill the fire break, floor and assure manufacturers stack height and it should outlast the walls.🦋🌻🇨🇦

Hi, you are doing fine. Here is a little tips for you amd others. I do the frame as you do without sheets on the floor frames and do the wall with noggings and wood for the windows and doors. No sheets on the stage bec its so much easy to install then i put 2x2 horizonal on the outside and on that Tyvel. Now you have a wall how is easy to lift and water proof with the Tyvek With this model you got your 2x4 vertikal and on the outside 2x2 horizontal Tyvek on outside so you get a quicker water and wind proof wall, also no need to get wet floor sheets. When the roof is on and water tight you can continue with the walls from the inside insulation 2 inch horizontal and then 4 inch vertical and then the plastic moister protection and then wood or sheet on the inside and later on the flooring or if you want to do the floor before insulate the walls (and also now you dont have a floor plywood how get damage if you have a leak from outside how damage the sheets and damage the sheets inside the house floor, the sheets starts inside the walls). With this metod you have a quicker water proof house that not damage the sheets. Also get a ventilated wall on the outside bec the 2x2 horizontal wood. Normal i use 2 inch floor beams and before install them i install a 1x4 how make a T and put the T on the bottom side of the floor beams. Now you have a support for the special sheets how fits nicely between the floor frames to protect from wind and animals and on the you put your insulation and on that the plastic for moisture. Always have the moisture plastic on the inside wall/floor and roof. Now you got a ventilated wall how is much more easy to install if you are alone and ventilated on the outside. Also the reason i make the 2x2 on the outside horizontal is that you do not get walls how transport /cold/heat throw the wood bec you have insulation both vertical and horizontal. So with this model you have a quicker(no sheets) water/wind proof house (Tyvek), easy to install the less weight walls (no sheets), ventilated walls on the outside (vertical and horizontal insulation), less cold transport in the walls so less energy to heat it up less sheets how can be damage when wet weather ( You install floor and wall sheets from the inside when water tight), also the most easy way to make the flooring, bec you just install the T on the beam and then drop the sheet between and they have a standard size so they fits between the beams also standard size of insulation. Now good luck. , this is how we build our houses in Sweden and we also have cold climate. Hahaha one more thing, if you rise the walls without the sheets on the outside its much easy to adjust the wall before you secure it with the 2x2 horizonal wood. Also when using only using the plywood on the wall from the inside you got half of the price for plywood and easy to install things on the inside plywood.
