My husband was a rural electric lineman for almost 34 years. Please keep those out working in that in your prayers. It's a tough job, especially if you have to climb poles. Stay safe my Alaska friends.

Praying for them. People do not realize that these men also have to get through the snow,to fix things. Here we had the power poles half leaning over after strong wind storms. I called the power company to let them know. It took three days to fix. Greatful they were able to fix it.

This is happening all over the world, I don't know if you know this but this is one of Satan's agenda. We will all be without electricity 🔌 And it will be a while before it is turned on. This is called a dark ❄️🥶

That is definitely “heart attack” snow. Be careful Bert! I feel your pain. Living in CT, we had a freak Halloween snowstorm years ago and were without power for 10 days! No heat or water! The worst. We did buy a generator after that. We do always have gallons of water stored and we use the grill. Never take these things for granted!Praise God!

Happy New Year! When I was a child in North Dakota we lived 12 miles out of town. We had 2 days of blizzard weather and a ton of snow. My Dad was stuck in town because they closed the highways. Most roads were blocked. We had a ranch style house, the snow was up to the edge of the roof. We could not open the doors, solid snow . We lost the power for over 30 hours and it he temperature was in the teens. We had generator, what we did have was an natural gas oven. My Mom had the burners on and the oven on with the oven door open. That was are only source of heat. My mom would let it run for an hour then shut it off 2 hours. She was worried about CO 2 poisoning. My Mom had us build a fort under the kitchen table. It was really fun. The snow was so deep the snow plows were stuck. The state had to call the National Guard in to dig people out and clear roads. We were snowed in for 5 days. It took 3 days to get the power on. It was a fun adventure as a child. My Mom did not enjoy it.😀

When we lived in the dc metro region, we had a ton of power outages. We purchased an all household generator to automatically come on. Our shore house we have a few outages, but not bad. The fire can heat the whole house and we can cook on our wood stove, easily. Relax and enjoy the quiet. Build forts is good. It creates an insulator for your room and keeps your body temps in.

We tend to get power outages in the spring, luckily between when it's quite cold and really hot. So we don't do much in the way of back up. We keep frozen bottles of water in our freezer so when we do lose power it becomes kind of like a large ice chest, and we transfer things from the fridge into the freezer. We use candles and little battery powered lights when it's dark. Bundle up in blankets/extra clothes if it's cold enough to need to.

If you could even find a station that had power. Luckily there were a few because I had to go searching every 8 hours or so because I only had a single 5 gallon gas can. However, I've been in East Tennessee almost 30 years now and there were a couple of blizzards here. 93 and 98 were horrible blizzards where we lost power for several days. In 93 in came in March. Yes, March! In 98, was pregnant with my youngest son and my oldest son had developed a fever of 104. We had to send for national guard to come get us to take him and I to the hospital while the rest of the fam stayed home....and we're not even far from downtown! We were snowed in with over 14" snow and without power or phone. We had a gas stove that kept the family warm. Our neighbors cooked on a kerosene heater in their garage and we all ate a lot of PBJs and bologna and cheese sandwiches lol.

Y'all need a Coleman camp stove... they come with one or 2 burners... and they take little butane cans so y'all can cook easily and they can be used indoors. Love when the power goes out. The fridges and freezers are what need help but other then that not so much. We have solar lanterns like Lucy lights and crank flashlights and in the winter a fireplace. Texas. Needed last year that's for sure

Been snowed in here in Washington State the last few days, supposed to be getting more soon! Someone slid in the ice and hit my car, it was parked in front of my house on the street, it must have happened at night, no note...😢 Got it really good too.... I told my husband that if that is the worst thing to happen all year than it was a good reminder of how blessed we are!!

Growing up, I lived in the county in Upstate New York, right by the Canadian border. When the lights went off, sometimes they would stay off for days. We had an old coal backup furnace in the basement for heat, but nothing to heat the bedrooms upstairs. At night, we would gather, and my dad would tell ghost stories. I loved those times, and really looked forward to them.

Hope all is going well. It's pretty dangerous with no power especially in the temperatures you experience. We live in Mobile AL so we experience power outages if it's unfortunately our time for a hurricane. The longest we were out was 2 weeks and it was HOT! But it is amazing how you can adapt if you are prepared the best you can be.

We are blessed to have a whole house Koehler propane generator. In recent years it seems where we live in VA the generator has run more in the summer than winter. We did have a 22 to 24 inch snow here a few years ago. I hope by now your power is back on. Stay safe!

Great job Bert! Not only were you taking care of things but you were the camera man too lol! It makes me realize how hard life can be in Alaska! Do you worry as you age you will have troubles with shoveling, cutting fire wood and/or gather fire wood? Just day to day life in the winter?

Sorry for your power outage! What a hassle! I live in coastal Virginia and we don't lose power often, but we have a pretty powerful generator just in case a hurricane knocks out power. Houses are very close together in my neighborhood, so we would be able to share the generator power with a couple of neighbors if necessary.

We lived in So. Dakota and blizzards were terrible there but our power rarely went off. Now in FL after having our first hurricane "Sally" under our belts it was quite the experience. The generator was going for 3 days, thankfully it wasn't hot/humid during Sally. The best thing was seeing all the power trucks from different states parked around town or coming down I-10 to help us. A positive attitude is a must otherwise you'll go crazy, we're spoiled in these days because with stores closed, no power, no cell it's easy to go nuts 😂😂

Your power outage must be difficult. When we lived in northeast Missouri one year we had freezing rain so bad that the weight of the ice pulled the electric box off the house. We were without power for almost 2 days. It was quite cold! We didn't have a fireplace or a generator. Take care!!

Here in NC, when we get a snowstorm this is the exact kind. Icy snow. We can be without power for days, due to falling trees and we don't have the proper equipment to clear roads, etc. Usually other states such as SC and GA have to come help out. Bunker down Somers family...and go sleding. This is the best stuff to sled in.

Bert you are amazing! Having to haul those heavy pieces of wood in the deep snow. First of all I can’t imagine having to do all this in such freezing cold temps. I understand that you gotta do what ya gotta do to take care of your family. But trying to just walk in the deep snow can throw your balance off, but carrying wood makes it twice as hard. Hope the electricity gets turned back on soon.

When we have power issues during the winter, we shut off absolutely everything we could to help with the load on the grid so it stayed on longer. I am down in Alberta and you're currently warmer than we are! It's a balmy -22 f here while you all are sitting around -10 F! (New Years eve morning!) Here is to hoping 2022 brings you everything you wish for, but always keeps you humble

Power outage makes everything take longer. Luckily for us we have LP Gas heat and our stove runs on that so cooking is easier just have to use a lighter or a match to light the burner. Having headlamps is very handy especially, to cook and read. I['ve got a pretty good stash of candles too and a couple lanterns. Have a Happy New Year!!!

I kinda love when the power goes off. However….we are used to outages a lot so we have lots of oil lamps, propane cook tops out in the mud room so we can cook. I love how quiet things are and about the only time we start the generator is after a day, then just long enough to top off the freezers and fridge. We also heat with wood so we are fine for heat. I think the longest outage we have had in recent years has been 72 hours. It’s a whole lot different when you are used to outages cause you are set up for it. Having a outhouse is also a godsend during those times hahahaa So yes Evelyn I like when it goes off

I live in the Florida Keys. We lose power typically during Hurricane Season. It's miserable... Hot and Humid and Bugs. So many of our elderly end up hospitalized because it affects their health. We sit outside, in the shade and try to catch a breeze. It's rough and it's miserable...but not life threatening like your weather. Praying for you guys!!

The weight of freezing rain on top of the snow and then another 12-16” of snow is adding up to the load limits of the older roofs. Plumb a line off the heating oil tank to a diesel generator and buy #1 fuel. We kept our house off Chena Pump Rd area warm. Kept the furnace running for two weeks on an 1800 watt Coleman generator, kept the refrigerator running, watched movies and strung white led Christmas lights through the house. Just didn’t have water. The well takes 220.

You might want to get a butane stove and extra cans of butane. They are safe to use indoors and are just like using a gas stove. One burner but safer than using your system, lol. Great for camping too. Hugs.
