📅 October 4th, 2021 ⛰️ Part 2 - Peaks of the Balkan incl Jezerca Peak hike in Albania
▶️ After completing the Montenegrin part of the Peaks of the Balkans, I crossed the border once more into Albania to summit the highest mountain of the entire Dinaric Alps in Jezerca Peak at 2,694m. Although not part of the Peaks of the Balkans, I made the spontaneous decision to go up there, not really knowing what I am getting myself into exactly. Combining the summit with another 10h hike towards Theth resulted in the longest day with nearly 40km in distance and 5000m altitude gains/loss in total! It was a crazy long day, but totally worth it as you can see in this video. Enjoy! 😀

Albanian mountains look barebone and as a dude who few months ago went to tara I must recommend you to go there and exactly to zaovinsko lake it's honestly beautiful

Yay, thanks for posting the Albania trek! Warms my heart to see the shepherd and his sheep in the mountains, one of my favorite memories from things I saw during my time there... I also appreciate the "underdeveloped" feel of the country as well, a bit more old-fashioned which is special in today's fast-paced world.

7:59, that's one of the glaciers. There are about 13 glaciers in that mountain range, all inside the Albanian border. There are only 16 glaciers in all of the Balkans. These are small mountain glaciers, not what you were probably visualizing. They are in a way embryonic glaciers, because of their size. They do move, and they do carve up the ground underneath and push debris at their tail end.

Brill footage. Thanks Chris. I visited Theth for the first time (and last so far) last year, in the midst of the pandemic and lockdown, having driven from London (with stops along the way obviously), with wife and kids, arriving at night, and driving on an unpaved road from the pick down. It was scary AF, but I couldn't turn around. At some point there was a cray in front of us and I couldn't see a path beyond for the car to go to. We (I mean Elena did) had to walk out to see which way to drive. However the couple of days we stayed there were some of the best memories and we are looking forward to go back (since the road works are now finished). I had a pre-booked guest house but I didn't think to take cash with me and everything was cash only around there. So me and my family lodged and ate at the restaurant for the whole duration with the owner trusting us that I would wire via Western Union later when I get back to the main cities. Which we obviously did, but that also was a pretty amazing show of trust, which is rare. Looking forward to your next videos, and stop by for a drink and a chat when you are back to London next. Lots to catch up on and i still haven't gotten around to thank you for my 40th bday video.

!!!!!!!!! I am currently looking into the London fli´ghts, would love to drop by before going to Montenegro. Just waiting a few more days to see what new restrictions bring.. And man crazy story, really sounds scary with the road but a lot of them are in bad conditions for sure. People generally are very trustworthy in the balkans I find, which is a nice thing for sure compared to places like Germany :)

I'll be doing that same climb early in the morning. A little worried about water for this trek in late September/early October, but hope everything goes well. I hope I have the same luck in seeing one of those salamanders. So cool.

Hehe true! On the pass it was pretty wet for a bit, maybe 10-15 minutes in total until I got dry again. But only had the camera out for the quick shot in the wind. The external mic and deadcam did a good job too, without them you would only hear wind noises.
